2025 Cup of China Men's Free Skate

was quietly sitting by myself with my laptop and then remembered i do have this account! the emotional whiplash i had from junhwan (😔) to suddenly hearing the soft piano notes of tomoki's program and squinting like. "is that...? no, it can't be... no...."

Oh what a shame. Do they close the score box too early?

Sota has always been an enigma to me: beautiful edges, can skate big, and has the most gorgeous spread eagle, but then just looks completely unengaged for swaths of a program. I hope he gets the jumps together so he can at least challenge for an Olympic spot.

Oh noooo, Sota :(. He's still battling a back injury, so this wasn't a surprise to me, but that was a really rough skate. I love the spread eagles throughout, he does so well with that element. Missing the lutz and only getting one combo will tank his BV. I am still sad he didn't keep his FS from last season, I loved that program and it never really reached its full potential. It certainly was very Olympic-feeling and it was my favourite free of his. This one is a little more generic, although the errors here didn't help. I hope he's okay, he might want to WD from his next GP event to heal up for Nationals.
