Are the North Koreans not doing 4CC because it's in Seoul? Very strange to see no Chinese pairs. I guess they don't have the minimums?

Only one Chinese pair has 4CC minimums (Yang/Deng), but we haven't seen them since Shanghai Trophy (I believe they withdrew from Cup of China due to injury, and they don't seem to have competed domestically since then).
The only Chinese pair who competed at Cup of China this season (Wang/Zhu) is unfortunately 0.6 points away from having their 4CC minimums.

I'm so proud of Audrey Shin and Balazs Nagy for earning their place here and can't wait to see their programs again. I'll just bet they're working hard to accomplish a triple twist in both programs. Remember, she's been a pairs skater for less than a year. I really enjoy the extras they bring to their skating ... performance values ... as well as their elements.

I'm also really looking forward to seeing Alisa and Misha's programs again ... so beautiful ... and they gain confidence every time.

I also can't wait to see Fiona and Benjamin's "La La Land" again. Really loved it at CAN nationals; in fact it was my favorite pairs skate there. Oops ... I just noticed the all=important "S" in front of their names. Fortunately, I can re-watch via Youtube. :)

That will be a great event! And I certainly don't know what my Skate Picks will be. I'd love for Deanna and Max to win this with two clean programs, but...😬
I'm also wondering who I would pick! I think Deanna/Max and the top Japanese are a safe bet for the podium, but the third medal seems wide open. Ef/Mit trending upwards after their nationals performance and desperate for a good placement. Yet Lia and Trennt also did well at nationals, and Kam OShea need to redeem themselves. The Uzbeks we haven't seen for almost 3 months, so what have they been preparing? They have the quality to medal, too. They'll be at Asian games the week before, so that might give a hint. And I always have a soft spot for the Australians, who I hope have had a good recovery and are ready to aim high at worlds.

Fiona and Ben were great at Warsaw Cup, too (their programs at that event are posted to YouTube). 😍 You can find 2025 Canadian Nationals replays on Dailymotion. I'm excited about this new team. Ben has certainly found a compelling match with Fiona. They started out slow and improved very quickly over the summer and early fall. I can see them rivaling Perreira/ Michaud for top dibs in Canada after 2026, if P/M decide to continue beyond 2026, which I would expect.

I still miss Chelsea/ Balazs' fab, effortlessly high triple-twist, and their sexy vibe. While Shin/ Nagy are well-matched physically and fully backed by U.S. fed, they still have much to work on. They do look promising with most of their elements, but the twist is not very good at this stage. As well, I do not feel a strong emotional connection between them yet. Balazs is 8 years (correction: 6 yrs) older than Audrey. Still, they appear to have improved since Golden Spin and the jumps are good, if Audrey can make sure she gets them fully around. They will need to find dynamic material and try to forge a more palpable connection. I am happy for Balazs and I hope this partnership succeeds.

^^ Thanks for the correction. Still a significant age difference that I only mention in terms of relating to each other well. I'm not someone to highlight any negative emphasis on age gaps. There can be greater age differences, e.g., between Kam/ O'Shea, which doesn't impact the ability to connect with each other emotionally. Another example is the Italian team of Beccari/ Guarise who relate to each other very well despite the huge age difference between them.

I do feel that Audrey & Balazs are in the process of forming an emotional bond, as they are clearly bonded in terms of mutual desire to make their partnership work. Right now, I feel that Audrey seems much younger than her soon-to-be 21 years. To me Audrey presents younger than Ellie Kam (who turned 20 in December), especially in terms of emotional maturity, albeit that's probably more due to their differences in personality than anything else. Probably right now, Audrey is preoccupied with getting the pairs elements executed well. When Audrey gains comfort and ease with this new discipline, hopefully more of her personality will be on full display.

Oops ... my apologies to everyone for starting the :ot:

Spoiler: the former partners meet in a warm-up - Alisa Efimova & Aleksadr Korovin.
As a newly crowned US champion and equally fresh representative of the Philippines I wonder how they feel.
As Alisa long time believer I find the situation ironic and deeply satisfying.
Alisa & Misha please please skate well!
