2025 NHK Trophy Free Dance

Imagine Torvill and Dean coming back only to dance Bolero again. I'm just . . . why?
it's a very weird choice indeed... but then, they have their own reasons for coming back and for selecting their music. Now that I have seen them, how emotional they have been and their reaction in the KNC, I believe it was a personal endeavour, proving themselves that Maia's illness didn't stop them in the end. Being there, competing at this level, is a huge victory. Of course, I am probably reading too much into things... but that 's what I felt when I saw them at the end.

While I really enjoy Yuka ORIHARA / Juho PIRINEN I thought Alicia and Paul would be ahead of them. This is what I get for trying to understand judging/scoring. :laugh3:
I'm not sure I would have Alicia and Paul leading but they should have the highest SS mark and according to Mark they don't. So, I disagree with that.

Yes, I'm sure they will improve. But, unless they are planning on skating another quad, I don't see them making a play for the US world or Olympic teams. The US has so many teams with better skills and more interesting choreo at the moment. They were never the fastest team. Slower than their competitors in the US even 8 years ago. They usually won because they were consistent. I don't think that's enough now...
I think they will be 5th at Us Nationals. So ... they are indeed not going to Milano.

I'm not sure how the Shibs thought not doing any other events other then the GP was going to give them enough time on the ice competing to get back into shape and make the Olympic team. It took Alysa nearly a full season to get back into the shape she was before she quit and she only sat out two years not seven. One more GP and then they think they will be ready to make a run at Nationals?

they had the most power and flow and the deepest edges from the first warm up group. I really don't know why judges don't reward them. I guess it's hard to be Canada's number 4 team.

'He wore black and I wore white'... or yellow? Great dress, though.

Gheorghe Zamfir!!! I knew I recognised it.

(Speaking of panpipes when is someone gonna skate to Picnic at Hanging Rock?????)

They've given this team more memorable material this year. There were several highlights in that program that I really enjoyed. Curious to see what they'll do in the next quad.

Wolfkostin always looked so stressed skating with Chen. I guess the issues he had with his subsequent partner explain why. She's an underrated performer and dancer and they have strong basics. I like this program.

I think they are going to lose to the 7th place team at US Nationals right now. So, 5th is too much to hope for imho unless Marina still has a lot of pull...

I’ve been watching, though not commenting, and with Wolfkostin/Tsarevski, one thing that occurs to me—she could not have done this program with her ex-partner, Jeffrey Chen.

These two are only going to improve, too

I think Marina does.. but I also think that the Shibs will improve as the season goes by. Not enough to challenge for a podium but they can beat W/T
