2026 JGP Xi'an Women's Short Program

I love that first Russian on the ice after all those years is Dzepka.
What a complete skater, visibly stressed and off with the music, it made program fell apart a little bit.

Sublime nonetheless
Yes, she was very nervous, she's capable of a much more captivating performance. Maybe it's also the program and dress but it just wasn't IT today. Hopefully free will be better..

I hope so. I kept hearing how artistic and magical she is and today she just... wasn't. But hey, it's her first international and nerves can do a number on anyone, I'm happy to give her time.

Oh no, another one telling is she is 'Never Enough'. Kiddies, don't do that!

It's so great to see a skater from India, but ENOUGH OF THIS SONG.

I agree.

It's a great song, but I got put off it a couple of years ago (for reasons I explained in another post earlier today).

I liked Jessy Raj MATHRAPU (IND).

But, you all know that I am biased when it comes to small Fed skaters. ;)

And I love the way that Richard Laidlaw (AUS) is so involved with the Indian skaters.

She goes into 34th position.

Ah, Natasa is one of Rozanov's students, no? I recognise his controversially younger girlfriend/ex-student in the K&C.

there's no red flag emoji on GS but yeah... sadly Sergei R is far from the first far older male coach to date a much younger (often teenager/literal child) student of theirs, which is just... big yikes.

I was going to agree, but then I went digging and found out that Polina is older than I thought (24), and Sergei is younger than I thought (36).

12 years isn't that bad. It's not Zhulin and Mikhailova territory (23 years difference); Morozov and Davankova territory (22 years difference); or even Morozov and Ilinykh territory (18 years difference). In those cases, the coach was old enough to be his girlfriend's Dad. It isn't here, thank goodness.

I saw the comments first and thought people just started hating for the sake of it but Dzepka's dress really is rough...

Not her best work but it was fine. Clearly leaves a gap between herself and the rest.

Protocols are up!

Kaoruko getting 66.10 with a !, < and q in her combo is quite crazy in a good way. I'm glad the judges appreciate her other qualities (the increased spin value probably helps too) 😃

She did well, but I genuinely believe she is capable of more expression. I think people on this thread had high expectations for what she can do, rather than hating on her.

They started dating when she was around 20, and then the 12-year difference is quite substantial, especially considering she was a young teen training under Team Tut when Sergei joined the coaching staff in 2016/2017.

Granted, it is a strong group. I think i will live with missing the rest. Kinda sad that Wada is still having problems on jumps. Myazaki's and Liu's music is not for me, but well done technicaly.

Did you mean 'hating on' her dress was rough, or that the dress itself was?

Because critiquing costumes has been a part of the sport since long before either of us was born, and it really was a bad one (not that that will affect her marks, Nathan Chen, just to name one, had a stellar career wearing costumes made from furniture fabric offcuts.)

I think Dzepka's dress is very run of the mill, so not sure where dislike originates, and the program is sophisticated as anything in August.

I think the woman competition was good.. I liked to see countries that aren't common in figure skate putting a fight and skating well..
Korean and japanese with very elegant programs ... HGK and CZH can have a great future
Soffiia .. she has a great lines ( kostner type), good jumps .. a think the footsteps could be better ( we are in August) .. but if I think about the music in ballet .. she is doing everything right for a ballerina ... but I think we need more footsteps
The dress is a little bit long .. but she is a taller skater .. but is beautiful ..of course it could be more Tarantella
