2026 Junior World Championships | Women's Free Skate

Which reminds me, I haven't finished watching the Biathlon from the Olympics yet.

And I just went onto Discovery+ to check where I had got to so that I could say in this post, and the whole Olympics section is gone! :jaw:

Gaaaaahhhhhh!!!!! :tantrum:

Of the stuff I was planning to watch, I had finished the Figure Skating, the Ski Jumping, and the Alpine Skiing. But I hadn't finished the Biathlon, the Cross Country, or the Nordic Combined.

I am not a happy bunny. This is the second time in the past 6 months that they have taken stuff down early. (The last time was when Discovery+ was given a makeover in September. I bet this time it is because Discovery+ is turning into HBO Max in three weeks time).

If I remember rightly, each Olympic figure skating stream was removed from discovery+ after 3 days. I think it was because of music rights.

They are however, all on youtube now so if you wanted for example the women's SP it is here: https://www.youtube.com/live/KJu3Fu5yIbA?si=e4ESQQIf5ej5IU1L

These results will have interesting implications for JGP slots next year:
- in the countries with a huge roster, only Japan got the full 2 spots for each event,
- just 6 spots for US ladies,
- both Australia and Israel might not actually have enough athletes to fill their entire 2x7 quota, so China and Korea might inherit some extra spots beyond their guaranteed 1x7.
This was not a great comp for South Korea, hope they get more spots for JGP next season

No.

Ekaterina Alexandrovskaya / Harley Windsor won Pairs at Junior Worlds in 2017.

Sorry, I still well up every time I think of Katya.

I am sure she is up there feeling so proud of Hana following her onto the podium.

Anastasia and Hektor also medaled in pairs twice, silver both times I think.
Team Australia must be very proud 🇦🇺 and looking forward to 2030!!

💐Wow, it was a great and interesting competition and the scoring looked mostly fair with no controversial decisions.

I am really looking forward to seeing more of Mayuko and Hana in juniors next season. Mayuko skates beautifully with unique choreo elements, her SP style and music reminded me of Rika's Breakfast in Baghdad.
As for Hana she has really worked on the performance side and it's wonderful to see her being rewarded for it! 🥈

I would love to see more of Mayuko...I just want her to skate to some more interpretable upbeat music...and use her face more for artistic expression.

Late to the party once again so I havent read all of your knowlegefull comments. Ted and Mark said Mao is absolutely sick (ref red nose) but she got off the ice like she was injured also.... still glad she won. Emotional roller coaster of an event. So Happy for Mei....24th to 10th. Loved Jiyu Huh. Feel bad for Yuseong.... everyone get some rest, although I know for many the lure of the Ice show cash is calling.

Poor baby Mao, she skated while ill and in a lot of pain, but still delivered what she could and it was enough. I don't know if it was the best decision, but at least she pulled it off.

Hard to tell if you are being Facetious but It looked to me like she was injured...dont know the truth...but according to Mark and Ted, she was definately sick and her nose was red in the K and C. Anyone who skates (I dont) will tell you that you need most of your senses and stamina to skate at her level. Even a cold degrades that. She made a decision and if she was hurt, I dont think it was during this program. Ted and Mark said the morning warmup practice didnt go well. So yes, there was a decision and she has a strong competitive nature. I would expect nothing less from her. But calling her "poor baby Mao" sounds patronizing.

I wasn’t being facetious at all. I was genuinely concerned about Mao. When I said “poor baby Mao,” I meant it in a sympathetic way, not in a patronizing or sarcastic way.
From what was reported, she was ill and in pain, and she even considered withdrawing before deciding to compete. That’s why I said I wasn’t sure if it was the best decision — not as criticism, but because competing while sick can be really hard. Still, she managed to deliver what she could and it was enough, which says a lot about her competitive spirit.
So my comment was meant as concern and admiration, not to belittle her in any way.

I finally got around to watching this and wow Bath was totally robbed of gold. The tech panel just found two measly q's (in the one element as well everything else got a big tick of approval ) for Shimada. Bath has these beautiful jumps all fully rotated, Shimada barely getting off the ground and a hook on most landings.

Bath has the better program as well, more expressive, more flow. Shimada is still very much a junior in her skating. She only excels in her spins over Bath.

And what was Shimada doing out there if she was apparently as sick as Ted kept telling us over and over. I remember the hysteria (for years after) when Shcherbakova sniffed some smelling salts when she was unwell. What the heck did they give Shimada then to turn it around in a matter of hours? 🤔 It seems this does not provoke hysteria any more...

What a shame to see someone once again robbed of a career moment. Bath was the 2026 world junior champion no doubt about it.
