2026 Olympics Team Event: Men's Short Program

my dearest national broadcaster isn't streaming men SP live, I guess I'm going to be honorary German whole evening...
How will u watch it? I have the same problem beacause I have only the half of SP in live in my country

Does someone know the start time of each skater?
All we know is the order unless Doris can find it tout de suite. My advice to Ilia is if, skating last, he has a comfortable looking lead, go ahead a put in the 4A. But the team event could end up being very very close and I would not risk my gold medal nor my team mates. It would be sad for the second US man, but if things look as close as I think they will be, I would put in Ilia twice.
Yes, figure skaters can and often do skate twice in the Olympic team event, performing in both the short/rhythm program and the free skate/dance segments if chosen. While teams are permitted to make up to two substitutions after the initial short program, top competitors frequently skate both segments to maximize their nation's podium chances.
Key Details on Skating Twice in the Team Event:
  • Strategy vs. Fatigue: Teams must balance using their strongest athletes twice to secure high points against the risk of physical/mental fatigue, especially since the team event occurs before individual competitions.
  • Event Structure: The team event consists of four disciplines (men, women, pairs, ice dance), with the top five teams advancing from the short programs to the free skates.
  • Substitutions: Each nation is allowed to make up to two athlete exchanges after the initial short programs/rhythm dance.
  • Maximum Participation: Athletes can potentially compete in both the team event and their respective individual events, meaning a skater could perform up to four times total (two team, two individual) over the course of the Olympics.
In summary, the same skater/pair can compete in both segments of the team event, though teams often use the substitution rule to manage athlete workload.

BTW, I agree with A. L.
There should be more team comps.
Stragety is important here. If Yuma has a bad day and Kevin brings his A game, the US still has alot more breathing room. Some may poo poo a team gold. I dont. I would STILL let Ilia and C and B skate twice.

Ilia's planned content for Team Short includes a 4A-3T combo. OK.

He skates last, so will have the benefit of knowing how the others did before finalizing this decision.
I don't like this. Doing a riskier combo in the individual event makes more sense because the excess points count towards your competition total. Here it doesn't matter if he finishes 0.01 or 100 points ahead of the next guy.

Day 2 of the Olympic Team Event starts with some Saturday night chaos!

Livestream for the Men's SP is now on air.

Here is the link for the BBC coverage on the iPlayer:

The BBC don't tell us what they will be showing on each channel, or if it will include the skating. So I will hedge my bets and provide links to both broadcasts.

On the other hand, if he's got an open lane... meaning the others have made mistakes, why not?

That way, he could be the first to land a 4A combo. If he misses it, he's still probably in good shape. As you said, it doesn't matter the margin of victory.

It's probably a pointless discussion anyway, as Jackie Chan has reported he's not doing it. He's apparently practiced his regular layout.

As for my personal opinion? He shouldn't do it. There's no point in taking risks at the Olympics. Save it for the WC. He'll still be the first to do it, and it could add excitement to an otherwise sleepy competition.

Eurosport/HBO Max started the lead in broadcast
As someone who watched yesterday's event via checking the results between 2 emails at work, I am so exited

By the by, my national broadcaster threw shade on the Olympic techbox+ jump map, saying that viewers would better appriciate knowing which elements were called, and not watching a distracting little worm in the corner:laugh4:

Here! So excited. I'm rooting for Canada to make the free skate... I have to be honest and say it doesn't look good but I want it so badly.

edit: Also, can I say how much I hate that the next stage of the team event starts today instead of being a day later? How are you supposed to prepare if you're one of the teams on the bubble? Treat it like a comp day, sure, but then at the end if you don't perform it would be so demoralizing. No time to prepare properly, no start orders until immediately before, nothing.

Just out of curiosity, are you getting the same lead in as us in the British Isles?

We just had Tiffany Zahorski in the arena talking to Radzi Chinyanganya (former presenter of the BBC's flagship children's programme "Blue Peter"). And now we have a recorded feature on Ilia Malinin

Interview with Ilia: parents didn't want him to skate initially, he wants to compete at the top level, Olympics is the begining, lots of opportunities for the future, wants to watch other sport as well, wants to do his best
