I know why Amber was chosen, but Isabeau would have been a better choice for the short and Alysa for the long. Amber is hot and cold too much to rely on her.
Isabeau's scores are maxed out at about what Amber scored in the TE even when clean so the US wasn't going to gain much. Better to just had Alysa do both segments.

Re Amber : I think it wasn't such a bad choice. She can be nervous of course but when she is on, she is capable of beating all the top skaters as she has done in the past at both her own Nationals of GPF.

So, getting an extra program may help her settle her nerves for the individual event. Putting trust in her, allowing her to earn a gold medal, even with an imperfect skate, is huge for an athlete who sometimes deals with nerves.

Also, it was much more important to have Alysa skate the SP, where a bad performance is much more costly.

I have no problem with Amber's score. I do have some issues with the lack of reviews on Gubanova 's jumps compared to the others. She really did not have the most rotated jumps today but the panel didn't call them or even review some..
No .. the issue is that you are use to the fact that Gubanova jumps are always strict review ... you are not use the fact that the other skaters like amber ( and alysa) should obey to the same criteria and don't get a free pass in the q ou ur (and I really like fire in amber).. so congrats for the first time Gubanova could have a fair shot in a competition ...

I agree. Gubanova shone in team competition. Loved her!

I was sorry for Gubanova. She really brought it here and skated/finished above expectations.

And that's twice in a row, after Euros, she's well beaten Gutmann in the LP but still lost the bronze to her. Oh dear!

I wish this was what happened. Thanks to K/O, US was bailed out, so I guess all's well that ends well.

My favorite member of Team Georgia is Gubanova. I love Lara too, but she got the bronze, so I am happy that the standout member of Georgia was Nastya! What a great performance. Lara was good too, and I think she'll be even better in individual. Kaori... I just love her, love her cheering on her teammates, she is making the most of her retirement season. Here's hoping for OGM!
