2026 Olympics: Where Will You be Watching?

Unfortunately I'm flying back to NZ from Japan on the day of the team event. Any recommendations on how to watch Olympic figure skating (in English) without a paid subscription? I have no TV, but do have a VPN. It will probably have to be replay/on demand most of the time because of the time difference.

Ouch , my friend. Your best bet might be just watching Japanese TV for 3 bucks for 3 days when you get home to NZ. Two week replay. Hope everything went well for you. Here is a partial schedule in EST.

I gave up on using the Chrome extension VPN. Clumbsy and full of ads on why you need to update it to the paid version. I am still not convinced that AI will let you use a VPN with peacock. (the extension opening tab is in the upper right of the screen and looks like a mouse took a bite out of a cracker on the left side.)
I am currently able to watch a 2022 Euros RD video on Peacock with my VPN set to Texas(even though I am in California. It is a privacy thing ;) ). But unfortunately the Skating ISU YouTube channel has started blocking my paid VPN. Is it still working for you @CoyoteChris with Proton VPN?

The Olympics section on Discovery+ UK is up, but they haven't linked to it yet. I assume they will do it nearer to when the first action starts on Wednesday.

Here is the link to the Olympics section on Discovery+ UK:
https://www.discoveryplus.com/gb/en/olympics

And here is the link for next Friday's Olympic Team Event coverage on Discovery+ UK:
https://play.discoveryplus.com/sport/62d97f68-15b2-557d-9273-aeef4858dfeb

The tiles on Discovery+ are currently only going up to Friday afternoon.

Hope this helps

Thank you! I'm in the UK, and yesterday managed to subscribe to Discovery+ for £3.99 for one month. It's a bit tricky finding the option for £3.99, as the site tries to get you to sign up for the big sports package, which costs £30.99 per month. However, after some digging about, I managed to find the £3.99 option, signed up, then immediately cancelled - I'm still able to access Discovery for the rest of the month. There's a specific tab for Milano Cortina.

Do they offer a free trial? Cool.

My HBO tiles are all ready now and happy to say it will also be available via HBO in Italy.

Well here Chilevision Will Broadcast but I don't know if will be all the event or not and claro sports but sadly with the not so good Mexican comments that talks more that parrots and just gossips but not something technical

Do you know how long the replays will be available?

That is a good question.

Content that would have come from Eurosport in the past tends to be available for a year. But content that always came from TNT Sports tends to only be available for 30 days.

And it might be different again for the Olympics.

In short, I think it is a case of we'll find out when the first things start to disappear.

I wish Discovery+ would display expiry dates like they used to do on the Eurosport Player.

Actually I seem to remember now that I watched artistic gymnastics at Paris Olympics on the discovery plus and replays were there long time after so maybe we will be lucky. Anyway it is heaps better than Peacock with 24 hours or so ( are they for real?)

Heads up: it may not be possible to watch the entire team event on Japanese TV services. According to this Japanese Olympics broadcast schedule posted by the Asahi Shimbun, the team event competition will be broadcst by NHK and TV Asahi. NHK is not on Nozomi; it was actually banned from a lot of streaming services prior to the Tokyo Olympics! The only broadcast of the team event I'm seeing from TV Asahi (テレビ朝日) according to the schedule above is on the 6th. However, I'm seeing another broadcast from TV Asahi on the early morning of the 8th on their website (perhaps this is a replays?). At any rate, I hope this information helps somehow, whether or not the competition on the 8th can be viewed.

Well shoot...it looks like J sports 1-4 is not covering it......

Just found the tab! (I had been looking at the page that I linked to in my previous post that you were replying to, which I now think is just a glorified advert to get people to sign up).

So that it is in the thead, here is the address for the 2026 Milano Cortina section:

https://play.discoveryplus.com/olympics/milano-cortina-2026

Here is the specific Figure Skating page:

https://play.discoveryplus.com/olympic-sport/figure-skating

They also have a page listing all the Olympics broadcasts, which can be filtered by sport. Here it is with the Figure Skating filter on:

https://play.discoveryplus.com/live-olympics-sports-schedule?filter=figure-skating

I don't see a country indicator in the addresses, so those links might actually work for Discovery+ suscribers in other countries where WBD have the rights.

By the way, I've started making out a TV Schedule post, and I am finding it very frustrating. For a start, the Sky EPG only goes a week into the future, so I will have to post it and then keep editing it during the Olympics.

Another complication is that, ever since the makeover in October, Discovery+ doesn't put identify which streams are the TV coverage any more. So, it is a case of waiting until they come on air, and then trying to work it out for yourself from what you see and hear. And they don't give us the planned end times or lengths of broadcasts any more either. And looking through the filtered list I linked to earlier in this post, a lot of the start times and descriptions don't actually make sense.

As for the BBC, I hate the way that, apart from on Friday when they are showing the Team Event, they don't actually tell us what they are showing in each of their broadcasts. So, I take it that means they will be jumping about all over the place, and not all of the skating will be shown.

These things are sent to try us.
