2026 Rooster Cup Lakes Trophy | Apr 4-6

As I suspected would happen, they're back earlier than scheduled. The Group 3 Warm-Up is on now.

Starting back early if you can is probably the best tactic, because you never know what delays might happen later in the day.

I'm not deliberately singling out Biver & Bonaly's students to comment about. But, I just had to comment about Caitlyn SJAM (USA)'s music.

I don't know who it was that was singing, but that was an absolutely beautiful cover of "La Vie En Rose" that Caitlyn was skating to.

She goes into 15th position. One position and 1.67 points behind team-mate Ella TUPAC (USA).

I'm intrigued to see what Biver & Bonaly's next student is like. She is from Brazil, but has a Japanese name. And she is up after the next skater.

CaroLiza_fan

As you may have gathered over the years, I have a soft spot for the Japanese. And I tend to support Brazilians in motorsport. And you all know how I love small Fed skaters.

So an ethnic Japanese skater from São Paulo? Of course I was going to support her!

Amaya YANAZE (BRA) was wearing a beautiful red dress with black trim.

Oh, I always love this music!

And I loved that skate!!!

Big waves from Peter, Amaya and Surya.

Amaya can't stop smiling! She is loving this experience.

She goes into 4th position, just 0.11 points behind team-mate Adina ZAJIC (USA).

Awwww. Big hug with Surya!

The penultimate skater before the resurfacing, #31 Maria VALENCIA (ESP), is yet another student of Biver & Bonaly. And when she was waiting for her scores, the three of them held up a massive Spanish flag with a message written on it:

¡Desde Madrid
Con María!

(Paris 2026)

Which translates as "From Madrid with María! (Paris 2026)"

She was wearing a black dress with silver pattern, and skating to "I Put A Spell On You"

She went into what was then 17th position.

CaroLiza_fan

The first skater after the resurfacing, Zeynep Tuana KIZEK (TUR), is wearing a black dress with gold pattern.

Skating to very dramatic music.

Every time I hear the name "Zeynep", it makes me think of this very young skater that I saw a few years ago who did a programme that I really liked to Toni Basil's version of "Mickey". But I am never able to remember her surname! :drama: (All I ever remember is that her Dad posted a video of her to his LinkedIn page).

Well, this Zeynep was good today!

She goes into the lead.

CaroLiza_fan

I have been curious about Fernanda McCAMMON (CHE) since I saw her name on the entry list.

When I was at high school and univesity, I was friends with a guy with the same surname who was from my Dad's home village. And tomorrow it will be 15 years and 2 months since my friend died.

So, I would love to find out if Fernanda has any family connections to Northern Ireland.

Anyway, she was wearing a blue dress what was light at the top and became darker as you went down.

I think you can guess which of Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" she was skating to from the dress! But it wasn't a straightforward version of "Winter". It was verging on a techno version.

I am delighted to say that Fernanda was good!

She goes into 2nd position.

Now that the Novice 1 girls are finished, it is straight onto the boys. Just the 2 of them. Both French.

This is actually the start of a boys double-bill, as after the resurfacing that follows them will be a group of 5 Debs 2 boys.

CaroLiza_fan

Ah, they are dismantling the results area now. Does that mean we have Podium Ceremonies coming up?

Two girls have sat down on the sofa.

We've just switched to a different camera looking at the ice. Yep, the podium is all set up.

CaroLiza_fan

Podium Ceremonies starting now.

A few minutes ago, they showed a shot of 6 girls sitting on the sofa waiting. So, just how many medals are they giving out?!

CaroLiza_fan

Zeynep Tuana KIZEK (TUR)has brought a Turkish flag with her onto the top step of podium.

Lovely to see Fernanda McCAMMON (CHE) up there in 2nd.

The carpet got wrinkled, so somebody straightened it out a bit. But the person presenting Tala KUNZ (CHE) with her Bronze Medal still managed to trip on it.

And they are indeed rewarding more than just the Top 3.

They are bringing all the skaters out and giving medals to the entire field! :jaw:

There are so many skaters lined up, they don't all fit into the camera shot!

I wonder if the carpet is long enough for all 39 skaters to stand on it, or if some of them are on the ice...

WOW! The crowd when all the skaters came into shot after the Turkish anthem finished!

When they cleared, we saw the two Swiss skaters getting their photo taken together on the podium.

I hope Zeynep had got a photo taken on her own on the top step too!

CaroLiza_fan

After seeing all those girls, it is rather different having just 2 boys for their ceremony.

The guy giving out the Silver Medal to Naim YEKHLEF (FRA) tripped on the carpet as he was going up to the podium. And he made a point to straighten it out as he was leaving.

That was funny. Winner Timoti GUILLAUME (FRA) is a lot taller than Naim, so when they were getting their photos taken on the top step, he bent his knees to make it easier for the photographer!

And in almost no time, everything was dismantled and we had empty ice.

The next competition is actually due to start now. But the Zamboni is only coming out onto the ice now.

So, I'm guessing the top of the hour, or 5 past the hour.

CaroLiza_fan

It turned out to be half-way in between!

We finish the 2026 Lakes Trophy with a Debs 2 double-bill. A group of 5 boys; followed by 32 girls.

CaroLiza_fan

Apologies for going quiet. I'm currently eating.

And now. The end is here. And so we face. The final curtain.

The 2026 Lakes Trophy concludes now with the Debs 2 Ladies FS. 32 girls, arranged into four groups of 8 girls.

The first group is currently doing their Warm-Up. And because there are so many skaters in the group, the Start Order table covers the whole of the screen!

CaroLiza_fan

OH. My. GOODNESS!!! 😲

Skater #4 is called Soline RIMSKY-KORSAKOFF (FRA) :jaw:

Is she a descendent of Nikolai?

Much to my disappointment, she wasn't skating to his music. It was an upbeat modern song,

A fun programme. And she skated it well.

She goes into 3rd position

CaroLiza_fan

I don't know what's happened with the next skater, Nell ERNY (FRA). She got about 30 seconds into her programme and then went over to the panel. It looked like she was crying,

There was no obvious reason for her to stop. She hadn't fallen or anything.

She was skating to an instrumental version of Madonna's "La Isla Bonita".

She's still on the ice warming up. So, I wonder if it was an issue with the music.

CaroLiza_fan

Right. Now this is a first.

When Nell re-started, Madonna was singing. So, I wonder if that was the problem. There was supposed to be vocals, but for some reason they weren't coming through at the first attempt.

I think I was wrong when I said I think she was crying. Because she didn't look like she had been upset when she was waiting for her scores.

In fact, despite the drama, she looked happy in the results area.

She goes into 4th position.

She has 2.50 points in deuctions. So, I assume that is for the interruption.

If I am right and the reason was because of a problem with the music player, it seems a bit unfair to penalise her. But, this sort of scenario is so strange that I suppose when the rules were being written nobody even thought of something like this could happen.

CaroLiza_fan

Right. We've just had a skater that I have definitely seen before.

When I first saw Milana MOISEEVA (EST) a year or two ago, my instant thought was "I wonder if she is related to my youngest kid, Olivia Bazlova?" She not only looks like Olivia, but she has the same surname as Olivia's Mum. And Olivia has trained in Estonia for many years. So if her Mum has family there, it could explain everything.

Anyway, Milana was wearing a Wonder Woman outfit. So I guess that the music was probably from one of the films.

She was good.

She has two girls who I can only assume are older team-mates sitting with her.

She goes into 2nd position.

@elektra blue - I think I have found the perfect skater for you to adopt:

Khaleesi GIACOMELLI (FRA)

With a name like that, how can you resist her?!

EDIT: I just found a video from 2024 of Khaleesi doing a programme which looks right up your street @elektra blue :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NOceXGkmHw

The picture quality isn't great, but you can still get the gist of it.

Anyway, she was wearing a peach dress with silver trim. I didn't know the song she was skating to, but the voice sounded very familiar.

Unfortunately, things didn't go to plan for Khaleesi today.

The fact that she fell getting into her starting position set the tone for what was to come. Admittedly, she only had one fall during the programme. But she very nearly had three more.

Nevertheless, you could see that she was having the time of her life out there! She was loving every moment of it!

I nearly forgot to mention another endearing thing about her - she wears glasses. 👓

She went into 12th and penultimate position.

CaroLiza_fan

Awwww. The wee Greek girl, Nefeli LINTZERI (GRE), was wearing a beautiful 17th Century style green dress.

I thought it was a "Pirates Of The Caribbean" programme, but I am not so sure now. The music had a similar feel, but now I'm wondering if it was more of a land-based theme.

I really enjoyed that programme.

Joti Polizoakis (I think!) and Robynne Tweedale sitting with her.

She goes into 4th position.

CaroLiza_fan

I have a feeling that host club skater Maiwenn CHARLES (FRA) wants to be a French Ice Dancer. Because everything about her programme was way out there.

For a start, the costume. The right hand side was a royal blue jumpsuit. The left hand side was a bright pink ballet dress.

Then the music. The first half was "Swan Lake". The second half was "A Fifth Of Beethoven".

It was so different that I loved it!!!

She goes into 12th position.
