2026 U.S. Nationals Senior Pairs Free Skate

Let me tell you about 2018 US Nationals and the Olympic team.... But no, I do not see it happening in this case and I think these two are safe.
Well I meant these particular silver medalists who have GP medals, made GP final, World team, medalled at 4CCs, etc. Not someone who shockingly got a silver with basically no BOW.

I have to wonder if an interview that Meagan Duhamel gave on the live show of the Runthrough podcast may have come back to haunt S/N. Meagan basically said that S/N were not aiming to win a 3rd spot for the US at the Beijing Olympic Qualifier because they were aiming to win the 1st spot by winning Nationals this year. 😬
I don't think anyone paid much attention to what was said on a podcast. In general, figure skating judges and other officials follow the sport much less than the fans do.
I did hear what Meagan said, but I don't think it really means they didn't care about the third spot at all. It's a part of your strategy and mental preparation. Yes, you will try to do your best as always, but they did not focus on that 3rd spot as their main and only goal, meaning not securing it is not the end. You focus on being the best and getting one of the available spots.

There was a journalist Eric Hall during the FS pairs press conference who asked about a fan who brought a transgender flag seen around the arena and what the pairs thought about that. Danny and Ellie were the only pair to answer and they voiced their support. Danny stated that figure skating is an extremely inclusive sport and he said it’s wonderful that audiences feel comfortable to bring any flags they want to feel supported and show support for others and Ellie echoed that skating is for everybody. The body language of the other skaters looked uncomfortable in response to the simple question. As the Games approach, the skaters will continue to be asked questions regarding sociopolitical issues that can be provocative topics in society currently. Kudos to Kam/O’Shea for successfully navigating this scenario.

Hard to see how they could choose anyone for the second spot besides M/P? No one besides the top 2 have much BoW, so they have to go with National Placements. Sad for me personally, I prefer C/H.

Daniil Parkman can’t go to the Olympics as he doesn’t have US citizenship. I’m not sure why his citizenship has been completely ignored while the media is solely focused on Alisa Efimova’s status.

I wonder if part of it is that they never had any designs on the Olympics because they knew he had no chance to get citizenship.

M/P were skating very well the first part of the season. It should be easy for the son of an American citizen to get citizenship but apparently it isn’t. Hopefully they will get a Worlds bid as we have 3 spots - thank you for skating on a broken foot Mr O’Shea.

In 2018 The USA had only one entry at the Olympics. Even though Alexa and Chris finished in the top ten at the previous worlds, due to some ridiculous rule the Knierims were the only US team entered. No snub by the powers that be. they won Nationals. Danny and Tarah were second but they couldn't compete.

I was talking about the men.

I wanna see Chan/Howe go to the Olympics. But I fear the selection will be Shin/Nagy, a team I do not feel have done enough yet to deserve an Olympic berth after just two seasons.

Does anyone have BOW stats available offhand btw C/H and S/N? Knowing U.S. fed and how they have had NBC Peacock commentators cheerleading for S/N, I fear this upcoming selection decision. If Efi/Mit can't go, it should be K/O and C/H. Shin/ Nagy and would be much better off going to 4CCs and Worlds. Better for the U.S. discipline overall too. Let S/N gain experience and further develop.

Is Daniil's father American, though?

U.S. fed is going to overlook McB/ Park and send Shin/ Nagy to Worlds with K/O and Efi/Mit, unless Danny plans to retire after the Olympics.

Are the press confs posted on USfigsk YouTube channel?

Ashley Wagner also mentioned that Duhamel said this. It sounds clever and cocky, but it's not good p.r. Plus, is it something S/N would have said? I doubt it. They were cluelessly sent to Beijing when they were not confident nor prepared. Apparently, U.S. fed sent S/N in bullheaded fashion because they plan to send them to the Olympics and thought it would look good if S/N won the spot in Beijing, so they could point to that as an excuse for sending them to the Olympics.

What Duhamel said to Ashley on The Runthrough podcast comes off as selfish and dumb. That kind of rhetoric is not helpful to the U.S. pairs discipline. Anyone sent to Beijing to win a third spot for the U.S. should not have gone there thinking the spot was for them in the first place! Were they told that it was? The spot was for U.S. pairs, not for an individual team, until it was secured first, and eventually assigned by the federation. Also, S/N winning the '1st spot' at U.S. Nationals was never happening this year! Believe it, Meagan!

I find Duhamel/Marcotte's fawning over Audrey & Balazs in the kiss 'n cry off-putting. D/M just seem eager to be latched to a promising U.S. team so they can take credit for any successes they achieve, especially if S/N are sent to the Olympics.

Another thing that NBC Peacock commentators failed to adequately cover is the fact that a lift by S/N in the fp came down too early, which gave them level 1, instead of level 4. I noticed it when I looked at the pairs fp event a second time. I recall Ashley saying, "I'm surprised..." in a shocked tone of voice after the scores landed S/N behind C/H. Well, perhaps if Ashley or Ben had enough knowledge or discernment to notice the lift situation and/ or the tech call, Ashley wouldn't have been so surprised. The tech panel called it and the judges had to follow through. Yet, the judges also seemingly tried to give S/N a boost in the pcs scoring.

Ah well, I won't be surprised if S/N are sent to the Olympics, but they shouldn't be!

Yes. Danil’s father is American. I hope Danny gives it another couple of years. They have a lot more they can win.

How did you find that out? Did you ask Daniil directly? I have wondered. I thought his father might be English. But there's no indication in Daniil's bio that his father is American. It simply states that Daniil was born in St. Petersburg, Russia in 1999, and that his parents briefly moved to Seattle, WA when Daniil was a toddler. Too bad they didn't stay long enough for Daniil to have obtained U.S. citizenship as a child.

If Daniil's father is indeed an American citizen, the citizenship process for Daniil might take 5 or 6 years instead of 8 years. So it would be nice to confirm the veracity. I am going to link the fp pairs press conference. I haven't looked at it in full. It would be interesting if Daniil was asked anything about his background and current citizenship application status.

An interesting question would be whether Ellie would try to continue with another partner if Danny retires, since she is so young.

I did not ask him directly. It’s been a topic of discussion on the boards.
