Info 2026 World Figure Skating Championships

Well damn i was hoping Alysa could pull off the double Olympic and World championship in the same year which hasn't happened since Kristi Yamaguchi did it in 1992. Even Yuna couldn't do it in 2010 as dominate as she was but i think she was just exhausted and undertrained for Worlds and probably did it for her Federation to keep spots for the next season so maybe it's good that Alysa takes time to enjoy everything and not have to worry about competition.

I think they said originally after Olympics she was planning to go, but all media attention after the OG has probably been overwhelming and they didn´t expect it. I could only imagine how exhausting that is, but also at the same time fun with all the opportunities. I mean she met Daniel Radcliffe backstage at TONIGHT show, got a hug and he hold her gold medal. Lucky girl. She is having the time of her life, I would also just enjoy it and go with the ride  Zara Larsson also reached out to her and has watched her Gala program since she skated to her music, I expect them to have some sort of meet up eventually. She also got 7,4 million followers on IG now, so she is probably stacked with invites here and there. So I don´t even think she had much time to practice really.

She cares about putting out a good program. And she should care about getting 3 spots. I hope she returns to training soon.
Well, evidently, she doesnt care all that much about being in the moment at an event for the three spots. She is sitting out Worlds. She has been marketing herself day and night on TV, which is fine...and I have no idea what SOI will pay her....or even when she decided to not do worlds. But from the 60 min interview, it is clear she is calling all the shots. I hope she does come back next season. The Oly season is such a grind.
If Braddie isnt sick or injured, I am mildly surprised at her turning down the alt position but it isnt like she took days to think it over, either. She KNEW. All this bodes well for Team Japan.
My crystal ball, tea leaves and ouija board all agree that Chock and Bates will retire... and, if they want kids, she will be with child in a year.

JMTC. She planned this once all the attention was on her and it lead to big bucks on late night shows to NBC morning shows. She will get her performing fix from SOI (IIRC she is also going to Japan. Cha-Ching) I do hope she comes back to Am. Skating next fall.

I believe the complete opposite, JMO as well.

Alysa had absolutely no idea that she would attract this much attention and she didn't plan a darned thing. She went home and chilled for five days without talking to a soul except her buddies, which is hardly the actions of someone set on marketing herself.

I think her agent called her and said time to do some press, even if we hadn't planned it. She wanted to go to Worlds but god bless her, she needs to strike while the iron is hot, and no one can blame her.

She will have more endorsement offers which will pay a lot more than SOI. Given Alysa's attitude, she won't go with them all. And that attitude is part of why she "blew up" in the first place. ;)

Or... was her agent so fiendishly clever that he knew that it is always better to leave 'em wanting more than to oversaturate the market. Withdraw from Worlds now, the public rises as one to demand more Alysa next year.

{Edit: This is a joke. But I did take the time to Google, "Who is Alysa Liu's business agent?" Google AI overview says, 'as far as I can figure out it's her father, Arthur Liu."]

Michelle Kwan's agent, Shep Goldberg, used to call hMichelle regularly to go over the list of all the endorsement offers and requests for public appearances that came in that week. Michelle was usually on her exercise bicycle during these calls. Reportedly, she would make an instant decision in real time, "I'll do this, I won't do that, bye." (Probably an exaggerated account. but that's what I was told once by Goldberg's secretary/receptionist. By the way, Goldberg shared an office at the time with the business headquarters of Champions on Ice.)

Ref: MK, I agree. I think she is well off enough to turn down any TV commericals for Viagra or whatever it is someone wants to hawk. She likes flying below the radar in her personal life. Smart well off people do this (Al Gore grew a beard at one point).

I dont think our opinions are mutually exclusive. There was attention enough on her since nats...and leading up to the Olys. Then, In January, the 60 minutes interview came out on air and also got 2.4 million hits on youtube
I think she and her family and friends knew what would happen if she won the individual gold. Instead, she won 2 golds. At that point, I think she and her family and NBC and other electronic media, etc were aware of how big her shooting star would be. Why wouldnt she rest for 5 days? I would. An oly year is grueling for any athlete, not matter what her attitude is. As she said in the interview laying on the ice spread eagled, after falling 2 times..."I am so tired...."
So she made the decision to ride the wave, skip worlds, and go on tour with SOI, which I think is more lucrative (now) than you might think is was when they did about 7 cities. (Last SOI we went to in Spokane had Mirai Nagasu and others I liked but hardly anyone attended and there were few stops. ) It is still grueling even if they dont use buses like they did in the days of Michelle Kwan. Just living out of a suit case and flying to 27 cities is grueling. In the grand scheme of this season, worlds is small potatoes. She will finish the tour, go to Japan and get a bunch more bucks and get down to work for next season (I hope) I also hope she gets some time off and decompresses.
I think Alysa and Ilia have given a boast to US skating. I just saw two more cities added to the tour.

... But I did take the time to Google, "Who is Alysa Liu's business agent?" Google AI overview says, 'as far as I can figure out it's her father, Arthur Liu."

It's a Google AI fail.
Accompanying Alysa in NYC this past week was her agent from IMG (who was visible in at least one photo).
WME also is representing Alysa.
[ETA:
In both cases, she already was a client long before 2026 Olympics.
Nothing wrong with that. I am not criticizing Alysa.]
[ETA (on Mar 11):
LOL, my own fail (ooops, sorry) is that I did not realize that WME owns IMG (if I now understand correctly).]

Ref: MK, I agree. I think she is well off enough to turn down any TV commericals for Viagra or whatever it is someone wants to hawk. ...

FWIW: During 2026 Olympics, Michelle Kwan was partnering with a brand of vitamin supplements -- appearing in advertising and promotional content such as:
(I'm not saying that it would mean that MK's financial situation would not be comfortable. I have no idea why she agreed to the partnership.)

ETA:
To clarify: I have no idea why MK agreed to any partnership in 2026, and to this partnership in particular.
Who knows, maybe she is doing a favor for a personal friend?? Maybe she is an investor in the company?? Maybe it's just nice to add the paycheck to her family's nest egg?? Maybe there is another reason?? I have no idea.
(Yes, she certainly has been no stranger to endorsements in the past.)

Yup, I find it hilarious when people think she is only competing for "funsies." Alysa and her team know exactly what the stakes are when she decided to make a comeback a year before the Olympics. I am not saying that it's wrong. It would be naive to assume otherwise.

On a different note, is this the right section to start predictions on how the World Championships will go in terms of winners in each discipline? I suppose there may be some more withdrawals.

Have you looked at or read any of the gazillion interviews of Alysa?

She was out. Done. Gone. Not following skating, did not care. She is not competing for funsies, but she is also not competing for glory, money or based on cold calculations of when to return. I find it naive to think otherwise ;)

Bravo. Anyone who watched the 60 min. interview I posted ( and believes her) would come to the same conclusion.

Hey, how yah doing, my friend? I was surprised to see your commercial but reading up on her on wiki, she has done many promos and shows for big bucks. But I am old and I dont remember them. Interesting that she should do just this one you referenced.
Kwan has had many endorsement contracts throughout her career, including Aim Funds, Campbell's, Caress soap, Chevrolet, Coca-Cola, Disney, East West Bank, Got Milk?, Kraft, Mattel, Maxxis, McDonald's, Minute Maid, Riedell Skates, Royal Caribbean International, Starbucks, United Airlines, Visa,

Kwan's multi-year deal with Chevrolet (starting in 2000) was estimated to be worth over $1 million. The Chevrolet/Michelle Kwan R.E.W.A.R.D.S. Scholarship program was established by the Chevrolet Motor Division of General Motors in cooperation with Kwan.

In 2002, Kwan was named a "celebrity representative" and spokeswoman for The Walt Disney Company in a three-year deal reported to be worth $1 million a year.
There is no report of her endorseing spam. :palmf:
She looks good for 45 and I hope she isnt in pain from all those injuries.
Money is funny stuff. Even if you are in Yuna Kim territory and have 100 million, you can still earn more and support whatever org you like. She is still idolized and looks great at 35.....
