3rd Maria Olszewska Memorial 2025 | Mar 5-9

Oh. My. Goodness!!!

During the intervals yesterday, I was attempting to watch yesterday morning's episode of "Batman".

And today, 23h 40m after the episode was broadcast, Ryszard SIUDEK (POL) is doing a programme to music from one of the "Batman" films.

Oh, how I wish he had worn a Batman costume. That would have been so cool!

He and his Dad are very talkative.

Even with 2 points in deductions, he wins the FS and overall.

And now that the boys are finished, it is time for the girls.

I think they were talking about the messy landings.

I think they were talking about the messy landings.

Ah, so a coach-student debrief rather than a father-son chat.

You know, I never thought of it before, but having duel roles must be so difficult for both sides in this situation. A coach looks at how things go in a different way to a parent. And what a kid wants from their parent is different from what they want from their coach.

I always thought it was cool to be coached by your parent(s). But, now that I think more about it, maybe it is better having a separate coach.

Now that was different. Chiara BELLATI (ITA) was skating to two versions of Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters". The first sounded to me like a church boy's choir. The second was an instrumental.

Of course, I would have preferred the original. But, it did actually work.

She is wearing a dress of various shades of blue.

Her coach is talking away to her, but Chiara is deep in thought.

She goes into 5th and last in the FS, and 2nd overall.

To be fair, apart from Agnė IVANOVAITĖ (LTU) out on her own at the top, there isn't much between the other four skaters in either FS or overall. So, it's not a disaster.

Carlota GARCIA BARRANCO (ESP) was doing a "Cats" programme. There was a wide variety of songs from the show included, but it was done in a way that it didn't sound like you were constantly jumping from one song to the next (a lesson for Chock / Bates).

I also liked the way her hair was done to look like cat's ears.

I enjoyed that.

She goes into the lead. By a decent margin too.

We have seen many Lady Gaga programmes over the years, but I don't think I've seen one before that uses either of the songs that Lilly ALMGREN-LIDMAN (SWE) used.

"Million Reasons" and "Judas"

It was nice to hear something different. And it was choreographed by a skater I really liked, Angelique Abachkina.

Lily did have issues, though.

She goes into 4th in the FS, and 3rd overall.

During 4 Continents, I commented that CHEN Hongyi (CHN)'s SP dress made me think of van Gogh's "Starry Night", and of Piper and Paul.

Well, I just thought exactly the same thing about Sofiia RYMSHYNA (UKR)'s FS dress.

She goes into the lead of both the FS and overall.

After Weronika FERLIN (POL)'s obvious Lipnitskaya tribute in the SP, I was kinda hoping that we would get another in the FS. But, alas...

Unfortunately, after the great skate yesterday, she had issues today.

She goes into 8th in the FS, and 4th overall.

The Maria Olszewska Memorial finishes with a Senior double-bill. And it starts with the chaos category!

However, I am going to miss most of it, as I am currently eating my Sunday Dinner.

And we have already had a withdrawal. The guy that was due to kick off the segment, Tim ENGLAND (DEU).

Hope it is not anything to worry about.

I missed Noah BODENSTEIN (CHE) and Luca FUENFER (DEU), but arrived back not long into Jakub LOFEK (POL)'s programme (I missed the first element, but saw the rest).

He was skating to music from "Willie Wonka And The Chocolate Factory". Well, covers of the songs. And I didn't like the singer.

He goes into 2nd position in both the FS and overall, behind Fuenfer.

My goodness! Is anybody in the Senior Men's FS going to go clean?! 😲

The only Men's skater that has not had at least one fall today was Edoardo Luigi PROFAIZER (ITA), who was the first skater out on the ice this morning, and who finished last in Juniors!

Fuenfer and Lofek had 1 fall each, and everybody else has had 2 falls.

Is it any wonder we call this the chaos category?!

Despite his two falls, Emmanuel SAVARY (USA) goes into the lead of both the FS and overall.
