A fair way to pick GPF finalists?

"look at Misha GE... he wasn't at TEB because he had VISA issues... thus he only gets one GP assignment... is that fair for #6 in the world? NO.... is it his fault? NO... is there a solution? NO... it just sucks.. that's all..."

Misha's case is very sad to me and I find it confusing. Why did these Visa Issues suddenly come up just as he's becoming a real force in the sport. I wonder if someone is being spiteful or jealous of his success. If were my skater, I'd want his happy face EVERYWHERE!!!!!!

Misha Ge is out.. only 1 GP because of VISA issues...

Only one of JB or PC will make it... JB needs to place 1st or 2nd at NHK to beat Chan... if he doesn't, most likely Chan will be at GPF... if he does, Jason will be at GPF...
Max is way out of contention

it's all simple ;)

I know it's simple but it still sucks. Being from the US I really want to see Jason or Max get there. However, being a huge fan of Patrick Chan, I'd like to see him make the final as he may go back into retirement if doesn't skate well this year. I want to see him leave the sport happy and on TOP!!

hey... that's my words!!! give me my royalties :)

the issue i think is that the French organizers didn't issue the letter of invitation in time... BOOOOO i think that Misha is probably okay not being in france today though...

Denis Ten unfortunately wouldn't make GPF with his SA result There are skaters in this field that had a chance of pulling up in the long to have a shot at making GPF after a top result at their first GP event, right? Do you not historically need at least two top 3 finishes?

he will always be my top.. not sure that's enough for him though ;)

chan is in for the long run ;) i think...

max is out... so if you need an american, you need to focus on either adam or jason.. they both have outside chances of getting there ahead of chan if they beat javi or yuzu and jin respectively

Wow, I hope that's true. I would love to see him skate live again but I can't go to Worlds this year. I will be traveling next season as I usually go every other year.

I can't recall what has happened historically, but a 1st and 4th place finish would beat a 2nd and 3rd place finish. Similarly, a 1st and 5th would beat two 3rd place finishes. So it's not necessarily two podium finishes.

In this case it is a 9th place finish so Denis Ten is out unfortunately.

Yes, unfortunately a 9th place finish is insurmountable.

On the bright, side, it gives him more time to get over his injury and get more training time

Denis never performs well at the beginning of the season anyways haha. I look forward to 4CC and Worlds for him though :cheer:

Ok, this may be a weird question but, why don't the top skaters from the previous worlds get "Byes" into the GPF? In tennis, the top players get to skip the first round due to their high ranking. I would that a skater like Patrick, Max, or Denis, should be able to qualify by winning a single GP event. This would also help keep the top skaters fresh for nationals and worlds and might help cut down on injuries.

I would hate to see Denis go from medaling to missing the GPF.

I just want to thank you guys for being a bright spot on this awful day. So many humorous, sweet, and thoughtful comments. I love this community and am grateful for our good support of each other and the skaters during this difficult, sad time.

well.. in tennis, top players get byes but not in the season's finale or the slams... very different format... in figure skating, top skaters do get rewarded by being seeded for GP events or also by getting to skate in the 2nd group based on their rankings.

Yeah, I know. But I don't think he usually bombs quite as badly as he did at his first GP this year. And we do know he was dealing with injuries too.

Denis never makes the GPF and has only one Grand Prix medal in his entire career. It doesn't seem right for him to get through to GPF over someone who has a better early season. He concentrates on peaking at the very end of the season so he gets the benefits and the drawbacks together.

NEAT!!!! I'm such a dork but I love that. Thank you so much!! Karne, do you speak Japanese by any chance?

I learned at school. Not kept up with it though, so I'm quite rusty.

Well, I've never liked Mondays. Any skater born on a Monday is out.

Excessive feathers and/or sequins... out.

Pairs is my least favorite discipline, so they're ALL out.

All the Russians are in; all the Canadians are out. I'm neither Canadian nor Russian, but I love feeding conspiracy theories.

Tie-breakers go the blonde. I'm a gentleman, and I prefer them.

What of the men? Perhaps you ought to consider the effectiveness of tight leggings. ;)

Max is way out of contention

Max is in far greater contention than Jason. Jason's task at NHK is monumental. Max's task at TEB, if the full event had been held, was much more likely, even with his SP result, which is why using only the SP is unfair.

They didn't "suddenly" come up. He also had issues with Worlds in Nice in 2012. He has always had issues with France.

Max is NOT out - especially in comparison to Adam and Jason! Would you please stop saying that? And even with his SP at TEB he's still in better form than the other two - or is that why you don't want him in?
