Adam Siao Him Fa

Sonja Henie Trophy 2025:

Also if anyone like myself is weary of Chris's commentary to his SP at the Europeans, I found this one:

New interview translated:

A lovely video from Adam of his improvised skate when he visited the Alp Raguta natural ice rink in the Swiss Alps earlier this year. Enjoy!

For those who love his skating he has quite a few other videos of his skating life on his YT account.

In the Grand Prix Final SP I was rooting for Adam, Mikhail and Shun, and only Shun had a good skate. Ah well, that is how it goes. I love Adam's skating, falls on the jumps or not! And his new costume! His old one was an 'oh no' from me when I first saw it. This one is an 'ooo yes'! Love it! His old one wasn't the worst one of the men's costumes in my opinion, but his new one I think is my favourite. Bold, refined, different and very sexy, and so only slightly distracting. Instead of looking like a tramp he now looks like a sleek athletic adonis. Wishing him (and all the other skaters) a great skate in the free that they are happy with :love:

I also notice he has XI discretely on the left arm of his costume. I'm wondering what that is meant to signify? It apparently means a number of things in Chinese - hope, happiness, to thank, so maybe any of these or something else entirely. It is also a Greek letter. And I do read the symbol on his back as the peace symbol. Maybe that is intentional or maybe it was merely pattern. Given the many layers in his program I wouldn't be surprised if these are another part of the layering of meaning.

since he's doing Leonardo Da Vinci it might be the number 11 in roman numbers

Ah, thanks. So, on googling I learn that there is a Da Vinci Xi surgical robotic system named after Da Vinci. I didn't know that. Now he could do with a little bit of robotic consistency on his jumps, though what makes him an endearing skater is his humanity, and we don't want him to lose that!

it worked for the first half of his free at gp finals, then i think he had a system crash

Our hospital does a lot of surgeries with the Da Vinci robot. The surgical wound is smaller, surgeones dexterity is much better, there is less risk of infection and recovery time is so much faster for the patients. DaVinci robots are great just like Leonardo!

It's completely out of topic but did they manage to reduce the learning curve?

That I do not know. I do know surgeons were encouraged, offered and took advantage of learning opportunities. I deal with OR but am ancillary being from lab so I do not have the visibility into how the learning curve was reduced.

I'll be having a partial knee replacement this Friday, (fingers crossed it doesn't get cancelled) but not by the Da Vinci Robotic system (which I've just looked up and is used for knee replacement), but by human hand. They don't have trained surgeons for it in my area yet. I'm really hoping to get to the European Figure Skating Championships in Sheffield in January to see Adam and the other exciting European skaters, and think there is a good chance I'll be sufficiently mobile just in time, and able to travel the distance. (I live in England.) I'll buy my ticket asap after the surgery, once it is actually done - didn't want to count my chickens by buying before! There are still plenty left in the cheaper seats, though prime seats sold out long ago. It is certainly a motivation to do my rehab exercises diligently. I'm thinking of just the Men's Free Skate day, but will see if closer to the time that I can manage the Men's SP as well.

Europe does seem to be producing a good number of very artistic men skaters at the moment, even if they are prone to menning, so it should be an excellent competition, and it is a rare chance to see Adam skate live in England, that I don't want to miss!

I wish you the best success in this surgery, and a good and speedy recovery!

Oh I wish you a successful surgery and quick and relatively pain-free recovery. Sounds like a very exciting trip and event to be at live.

i wish you speed recovery!

A nice video of Adam explaining what he does as a skater, probably intended for youngsters interested in sport, and advertisers looking for a sports 'face'. Nothing you will not have heard before, but I always enjoy clips of Adam skating, and his French accent is very soothing on the ear! Plus plenty of those Adam smiles and laughs. He is always so authentic, and his passion for skating and his love of performance once again shines through. He skates for us (as well as the judges)! But we knew that!
There are English subtitles

Sadly Adam has withdrawn from the European Championships in Sheffield. I had really been hoping to watch him skate! François Pitot will be taking his place, and that will be great experience for him. Still not sure if I'll be fit enough in time to travel to Sheffield to see the rest of the field, but if I can't, at least the disappointment will be not so great!

Adam and his team have decided to concentrate on working on peak fitness and recovery from past injuries, and rebuild his consistency for the Olympics.

From L'Equipe:
“He needs to regain physical freshness and consistency in training, and refocus on the Olympic goal,” explained Djamel Cheikh, the National Technical Director for ice sports. “He is also paying for injuries from last season and was racing against time. He needs a long enough period to prepare for the most important event. I had the idea to skip this event, and so did Cedric (Tour, his coach). Adam completely agreed.”

This decision is clearly not a sanction. “It’s a matter of fine-tuning and stabilization,” continued Djamel Cheikh. “The shared assessment with the coaches is that adding another event like the Europeans for Adam would be destabilizing and could be bad for the Olympics."
