Akiko Suzuki On The Move

I totally agree

Her body acts the music

Each movement is in synch with the music and the choreography

It's rare that we find such exquisite talent where the music becomes one with the technique and the skater
 
Congratulations Akiko for winning her first medal at the Japanese Nationals (silver medal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Congrats for landing another 7 triple program, sadly she tripped while proceeding to another step but nonetheless, another phenomenal performance!!! So well deserved!!!!!!!!!

World is a poor consolation prize for Yukari... :( I'm sure she would've loved to swap World for Oly with Akiko.

IF Mao medals, she may not go to the world. If so, Akiko is the most logical alternate tho. :)
 
Hmm... I was kind of hoping to see Akiko at Worlds, because I plan on going to Torino. But I'm glad she made the Oly team! She's been so deserving of that spot this season! I loved watching her at the GPF, made forget for a moment that I was rooting for Ashley :).
 
I'm so excited for Akiko! Ahh can't wait to see her at the Olympics! I think she should change the jump layout in her short though so she won't be low down in the standings after the short like she normally is now. Currently she does 3f-2t, 3lo, 2a which is not not as high technical difficulty as most of the medal contenders. If she could switch to 3lz-2t, 3f, 2a I bet she would be right up there with all the frontrunners! I guess she often gets ! or e on her lutz but I still think her current layout is the reason she usually doesn't place as well in the short.
 
She did 3lz/2Toe and 3Flip at the beginning of the season but then at Skate Canada, the caller ridiculously gave her "e" on her Lutzes. She changed the layout after that.

I think 3lz/2Toe and 3Flip would be more effective. Akiko doesn't deserve more than "!" from any caller and in the past she sometimes hasn't even received a call at all. She doesn't really flutz...just takes off from the flat of the blade sometimes.

Skaters tend to have a bigger break in their program when they go for the 3Loop as the solo jump in the SP instead of the 3Flip and that's certainly the case for Akiko too. She flows better with 3Flip out of footwork.

Skate Canada was just a messed up competition. They gave Mirai all sorts of "e" on her lutzes too even though they were good jumps that should have gotten a "!" at worst. Mirai is not known for having a bad flutz the judges there were just being dumb keeping Mirai down as much as possible in the short and free so that Alissa and Laura would beat her even though she skated circles around everyone in the free landing more bigger, better jumps than everyone else. Mirai should have been 2nd or 3rd, Akiko 4th and Laura 5th. Plus the judges gave Joannie, Emelie, and Cynthia HUGE PCS scores for no reason.

Maybe Akiko should go with a 3lz-2t and a 3lo then, unless the tech caller is being crazy. Akiko and Mirai are two of my favorite skaters and I just feel bad because I feel like international judges always give them scores that are the very minimum of what they really deserve.
 
I have fallen in love with Akiko this season. I am thrilled she's going to the Olys and I hope she winds up on the podium. I'm telling all of my show biz friends that they have to youtube her WSS LP.

The memory of Yukari as Giselle at Skate America last year had me rooting for her to take the final Olympic spot, so when Akiko got it I was somewhat sad, but I have to admit her LP is lovely and she is cute as a button.
 
Akiko was the emotional highlight and breakout star of this Japanese nationals. In fact, I just saw a random mention of her on a Japanese site that normally has nothing to do with skating. Not since Michelle Kwan has a skater done so many 7 triple programs in a season, and Akiko skates with just as much heart. I'm calling her now as a potential spoiler for the gold medal at the Olympics.

Her two biggest weapons: her jump consistency and her straightline footwork in the long. Her biggest weakness: her lack of reputation and the attendant PCS boost on the international scene. However, she has been remedying that with her skyrocketing profile in the skating world. If the top skaters continue to falter and Akiko maintains her poise, I can see her smiling and crying all the way to the top of the podium at the Olympics.

I really want Akiko to really focus on her spins and spirals

Her spirals and spins do get the level 4's but at nationals they were less

I do have a feeling for Akiko, i wish it becomes true in the Olympics! She is magic!
 
I just think this is a great moment for Akiko. What a comeback story! After all she's been through, winning an Olympic spot just one year after coming back to the sport, and in a country that probably has the most talented female skaters in the world. Simply amazing :love: . She is such a cutie too! Haha, I always forget she is 24 and think she is 15 like Kanako :laugh:
 
I like how Akiko expresses herself on the ice, because she is more similar to Yuna- both skate with passion and fire, bold facial expressions- and her straight line step sequence in FS was a jewel in terms of that! It had flare that really accentuated the character of music as well as liveliness throughout. However, what really moved my heart was that she was skating with joy and freedom, especially after hearing her old stories.
 
The best performance of hers this season!

IMO, her LP performance at Nationals was the best this season despite the fall. Perhaps her GPF was better because it was clean, but her steps were absolutely fab and most expressive here. She looks very happy and energetic.

I also like her jumps. They are big, powerful, and have very clean landings. Refreshing to watch. I like her jumps as much as Miki's.
