Alena Kostornaia

can't help but notice the red tape on her leg in one of these pictures, i hope it's just for extra support to prevent being injured again, and not a present injury.

I saw the tape on her legs as well and am also concerned but I really hope it’s just preventative. It would be awful if she was injured again for her senior debut.

I hope Eteri and team adjust her training plan accordingly to prevent injury. Not all skaters are the same and not all bodies can withstand the same number of reps - but I’m sure Alena wants to do as much as all the other skaters since she is competitive and wants to be the best.

Yes, Alyona herself actually answered this question here:

(If you aren't a VK member, you won't be able to see the comments)

She wrote:
все хорошо, просто начало сборов и все болит😂😂, тейп для поддержания мышц

GoogleTranslate:
everything is good, just the beginning of the training camp and everything hurts 😂😂, tape is to maintain muscles

So that's a relief! :agree:

I really hope she stays injury-free!

Alena on Japanese tv. If anyone can provide a translation that would be greatly appreciated.

Here you go:
The text on screen that looks like a newspaper clipping talks about her winning 2018 JGPF.
She says she's been going to Sambo 70 for 3 years; she wanted to train at this school because the best skaters come here--people like Alina Zagitova.
Her dream is to go to Worlds, Euros, Olympics.
They ask her what her goal is--what color medal? And she says she's not focused on the color of the medal, but she wants to show her style of beautiful skating.
About Eteri: she's not just good at teaching technique but also in addressing the psychological aspect. She knows how to teach each student according to their own needs, and she's the coach that many people--and of course Alyona--respect the most.
The interviewer asks her about the weight of others' expectations, and she says she's not really concerned about that because skating is what she likes to do--and she's just grateful she's able to do what she likes.

**

I'm glad to hear she doesn't feel burdened by others' expectations--at least not yet!
And of course, I really hope she makes it to the next Olympics! :agree:

That has to be where her stress fracture was or where she was sore that say. Having had a stress fracture of my tibula or fibula in 2013( I dont remember which) I cant imagine a figure skater like Alena having that pain and having to jump on it. I have to believe she is healthy but just a little sore there nd that is precautionary tape.

Thanks! It's good to hear that it's her dream to go to Worlds, Euros, Olympics. That means she doesn't plan to give up skating in the near future. And of course, I also hope this dream will come true..

She has such depth to her as well being such a charmer.

Well, I translated the Japanese translation in the video interview with Alena, but here's a more direct Russian-to-English translation of what Alena said:

Also, since Alena changed the name on her Instagram handle to "Aliona," I guess that is what I will use going forward! :agree:

Less than a week until we find out which GP event she's going to! :drama: :yahoo:

Yes [emoji7] Can't believe that Alyona's senior debut is here.

And whatever the GP assignments will be, we will see some incredible battles, there are way too many talented skaters, so it's inevitable for some of them to meet even during the GP stages.

Interesting... so she’s up against Alina twice but no match ups with Sasha, Anna or Zhenya (dare I say until the final..).

To be honest all I really care is that she has two spots, it all feels so real and exciting now!!

It looks like they paired up the top 6 ladies at all 6 events -Alena vs Alina, Sasha vs Zhenya and Anna vs Tut. Smart strategy to ensure they each only need to face 1 other main top Russian lady at each event.

Ooh I didn’t notice that, it’s an interesting tactic. I hope it works because I’d love an all russian lady final!!

So against Alina both times.. that's kind of tough.. we'll see.. :cheer:

Any of the other 4 would be equally tough competition, so it will really come down to who skates better on the day.

In addition to Alina, Alena’s main competition will likely come from Kaori at IDF and of course Rika at NHK.

All of the events are equally stacked, with the exception of Rostelecom which is only slightly easier, so making the final will be tough for everyone this season. If everyone skates up to the level they are capable of, this will definitely be the most competitive GP series ever. Now we just have to wait until September for test skates and Challenger Assignments. I assume Alena will want to do 2 before her 1st GP to get as many WS points as possible so she can is seeded in the 2nd warmup group for the SP. I need to take another look at the world ranking list to see how she compares with the rest of the fields in France and Japan. Exciting times!

Hopefully she will be fully recovered by then.
