Alena Kostornaia

I hope not! Aliona is unique and deserves her own special choreographed moments. Would hate to see this gimmick used on all 3 girls in the same season.

I totally agree. I’ve never liked changing dresses on anyone. But, it seems like it probably makes the most sense out of all the programs to have one, considering the transformation from human to vampire.

Regardless, I can’t wait to see her skate the new program in competition. Regardless of what costume she has, I know she will look and perform beautifully.

Yeah, I agree, it would make sense to have a costume change in the Twilight program. And if she doesn't have one, it would seem like she's being left out.
But I also agree with SkateSkates -- Aliona doesn't need a gimmick! :noshake:

Did you all see the video with the 4A's ending poses?

Aliona's eyes... :dbana:

Lovely fan art of our beautiful girl!

Separately, I stumbled upon some of Massimiliano Ambesi's (Italian figure skating commentator) posts about Aliona's performances, and he has nothing but praise!
For example, for her 2017 Russian Nationals FS:

GoogleTranslate (with a little editing):
... and then she arrives, and makes you see everything else with different eyes because at 14 there has never been a skater so complete and maybe never will be.
Technique, elegance, interpretation.
The "total package", in a word ART
Pity not being able to see her at the Olympics

:agree: :luv17:

(His posts on the recent test skates also have Aliona screenshots for the video -- clearly he's a fan! )

Great to see the appreciation for Aliona’s special skating, and it seems like his followers agree :)

Just a few weeks until we see Aliona again! I hope everything is going well in her training. As much as I would love to see her go for the 3A at Finlandia, I would be happy with 2 clean skates at her current level of technical content. I can’t believe she hasn’t competed since early February - it’s been so long!

Really sweet fan video of Eteri & Aliona (there are two clips): :luv17:

I know there are some fans that think that Eteri doesn't like Aliona for some reason, but I actually think Aliona is her favorite on a personal level (but not necessarily the one that Eteri thinks will win everything).

And I know that a lot of people think Aliona got the worst GP assignments because she's paired with Alina, reigning Olympic and World champ--but I actually think this might be good for Aliona. Because I expect Eteri to ONLY go to the competitions that Alina is competing at, which means that she will be there with Aliona as well. And even if Aliona is not Eteri's favorite, Aliona seems closest to her (versus Daniil or Sergei Dudakov), so she probably would be most comfortable/confident if Eteri is there. In addition, that might send a message to the judges--"this is one of the skaters that Eteri cares about enough to be here in person." So we'll see...

At any rate, we know that Eteri ends up carrying a lot of Aliona's stuff:

...And she did the same at the test skates:

Of course, this might be totally random, but you can see Eteri holding Aliona's pink unicorn, while Daniil is holding Alina's, and Sergei is holding Anna and Sasha's tissue boxes. :) Sometimes being a coach means you have to carry lots of stuff!

With Nebelhorn starting tomorrow it’s really making me wish Aliona was competing there! I know she probably wants to spend more time training since she is coming off an injury, but I would selfishly love to see her at more than 1 challenger before the GP :)

Just a little over 2 weeks until we see Aliona again and the anticipation is killing me! I wish we would get some new Aliona content before then - maybe another channel 1 feature? Or a training video? Anything!

So long since I've seen Alena skate in a real event. She's been missed a lot because she's such a unique skater and being so artistic and musical.

I've been trying to pass the time by re-watching some of Aliona's old performances.

Like the one I've been looking for! :yahoo: The CBC version of her 2018 GPF gala performance:
https://www.cbc.ca/sports/isu-grand-prix-final-gala-1.4938900
She comes on around 1:27 (1hr 27 min) into the program, and if you're not in Canada, you need a VPN to watch.
It's so nice to hear Kurt and Carol *rave* about her! :agree:

And here's another cute compilation of Aliona & Eteri clips:

I’ve also been rewatching old Aliona performances to hold me over until she debuts. Technically less than 10 days to go!

Hopefully we can get some practice clips as well so maybe only 9 days to go! Wishful thinking...

excited for alena’s senior debut in a little more than one week! hope she does great :) she needs to show isu that she deserves great pcs

Oh my... I've been looking at some old pages here and I found this amazing 3A on the floor: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2qZ7gfhvKsg
More than 2 years ago... can't stop watching this...

She gets incredible height but is off axis in the air - which is what I’ve posted about as her main issue (probably, at least in my opinion) before. She’s able to save it off ice or when she’s doing a double, but on ice that would’ve been a nasty fall 😭

This is probably why she said she kept getting little injuries when training the 3A last season.

I hope now that she’s stronger and has added more muscle vs 2017 she is able to control the axis better and can land the jump again on ice. I really want to see her 3A in competition!

One week until Finlandia! The entry list keeps changing and I keep checking back to make sure Aliona is still listed. I am really looking forward to seeing her skate next weekend :)

I can't wait for Alena to skate next weekend!! I have missed her skating so much and youtube videos can only hold me over for so long!! Hopefully she will skate two clean programs!! :cheer2:

That EX was a very special performance by Alyona. There were no visual distractions, just her skating in the spotlights.

And she was already on the sore ankle, but showing no sign of discomfort or pain, kept herself perfectly together. Dos Cadenzias will never fade from figure skating memory, it is Alyona's iconic program till now for me.

We must hope for a free live stream or good quality YT afterwards.

Yes I’m hoping Finlandia publishes streaming info soon...there’s gotta be something
