Alena Kostornaia

Honestly I am not sure I really want a new program for her. I was disappointed in her free this year, so I kind of want to see a new one from her. On the other hand, I think she should focus on getting back her 3A and fix some under-rotated jump issues. Learning new choreo may take away time from her.

But I know our girl is determined. I will keep my fingers-crossed.
I don't know how training for a top skater goes (I did bicycle racing so way different), but I suppose "special" workloads are allotted in training slots, so that working on a new choreo won't subcrat from jumping practice. They find the time for dance and acting classes to improve, there could be time to work on an choreo. Happily ice time seems not to be a problem with her current arrangement*
The most important thing to me is if she believes in new program and feels it as a medium to convey emotions: that way she could shine jumps or not.
The trixel is instrumental to scoring, but if she doesn't look superlative on the ice it means something else is not perfect.

* EP has a lot to prove as a coach but in the last two year he did really invested in his academy.
Maybe we need Eteri as tech coach and Plushenko as director of the program.
It could be terrific... assuming they won't kill each other in the first two weeks

I know we have coaches and former high level skaters here, so I hope they could bring some light on a top skaters training program

I personally do not think it's Experience. SLB choreographed an Experience FS for Mariah in 2018/19 and I doubt SLB would choreograph the same program so quickly for another skater.

Sorry for answering so late.
Her parents live in Northwestern Moscow. When she used to train at Chrystalny with TeamTutberidze, I read in an interview that she had 2h30 walking and metro (with at least one change) each way! And I can tell you Moscow metro is beautiful, safe and efficient but "shaking".
I think Angels of Plushenko rink where she trained for a while must be just as far away. So, if she now can live by her rink, it is so much less exhausting.
That's a lot of distance to cover just to get to practice. Now with the cottage that situation is rectified as she is much nearer to the rink.

Thanks Dizzy.

Ok, so IDK if someone has already said this but Aliona has withdrawn from the jump competition on Feb 5th. This is a separate event, men vs ladies, and will take place before the actual competition. She said that this is because "I have nothing to show there", which pretty much means that she hasn't gotten her 3A back yet. Article Link

My understanding is that she didn't withdraw but rather wasn't chosen for the jump competition part because she doesn't have quads.

I think that she withdrew because her name was originally on the roster for the jump competition, but either way, she won't be competing in the jump part because she doesn't have anything to show there (3A or quads).

Oh I see, I didn't know she was originally on the list. (Wouldn't that have made the teams unbalanced though? Since there's 4 on each side)

aniway I love experimenting with new formats.
This would help open the road to my figure skating world cup dream

(one day i'll write about it)

((maybe))

I love anything by Ludovico Einaudi so excited to see her interpretation of it. There have been some great programs to Experience though so we'll have to see if it ends up being my definitive Experience program :p

(That's assuming Experience is her program music!)
You are confusing some of us. Did she say her new program is Enaudi? Or is it sth that you wish?

Aliona withdrew from the team event this week:

European champion Alena Kostornaya will not take part in the Channel One Cup team tournament, which will be held in the capital's Megasport on February 5-7.

According to the decision of the coach and the athlete, due to incomplete recovery from illness, the skater will not be able to perform at this tournament.

As much as I would love to see Aliona performing again, I think this is totally the right decision and am not surprised at all. (y)

She only got her new (reworked?) free program last week, which means that she probably needs more time to polish it.
And I think there's no point in showing up unprepared/not in great shape, since this competition is like a mini audition for Worlds, if not for next year's Olympic team.

I think it makes the most sense for her to skip the competition, keep training hard, and aim to reach peak shape in time for the Russia Cup Final, which WILL decide the World team.

I do hope that she does watch the competition, though--I think seeing the other girls doing all their quads may help motivate her to train harder (and get the 3A back)! (y):hap10:

Smart move pulling out of the team event. What could that event do for aliona other than show she's not ready yet? Plenty of time to get ready for the Russian Cup final which as you said Bat will decide the worlds team.

Also AK skates beautifully the most beautiful skater in the world if she gets back in form she will have great mechanics and Technical abilities again hit the right edges all of that. If that was not going to be featured in this team event why do it especially if you're not ready?

There was an interview with Aliona at one point where she says something to the effect of (and I'm paraphrasing), "First place is all that matters. Otherwise, what's the point?"

Does anyone else remember this? It might have been last season or the season before. Does anyone have a link to the video of this interview?

I don't know guys.
I just so sad.
I hope it some king of tactics to show the new program only when ready and bin the old one instead of showing it once again.
If she still have consequences from the disease (a part for being late on the programmed training schedule that is somehow expected) it's too bad to even think about it.

I will miss her edges
I will miss her arms gracefully weawing
I will miss her superb crossovers
I will miss gravity and friction loosening theyr rules because of her skating
I will miss her smile and her eyes
