Alena's double axel will always be my all time favorite jump from her. The height and distance is unreal.

did she fall in her step sequence? of all things
despite this, it really proves the judges like her and want to reward her for her mature skating by her score. i would think she lost about 2 or 3 points today, so she would have gotten potentially around 77 points or so with no errors? she would have been a clear second!
but ice is slippery and a lot can happen in the free...it's basically a 4 way tie for silver at this point anyway.
Who was she in competition with for the Silver? Hoping she can get it.
I agree with others that Alena will do great as a senior. And if she can ever add a solid 3a watch out.

Rika-Kihira-style, Alena is in a good company
I was sad to see her so disappointed after her skate but she still got a pretty good score. Keeping my fingers crossed for a great FS.

I gasped at the size of her double axel at the beginning and again when she fell in the footwork. Looked like she was able to shake it off as a silly mistake but I hope she didn’t injure herself.

Trusova, Konstantinova, Kostornaya and Shcherbakova all scored a 74. it's definitely possible if Trusova and Shcherbakova miss quads.

That slow mo is mesmerising, it just looks sooo effortless and there’s surely so much time and space for a 3A

She sounds like a very intelligent and ambitious girl. With how precise her skating is, and how hard she works, I suspect she would make an excellent neurosurgeon. It's nice to see she dreams big :thumbsup:

How did she do in her free skate and what did she score? Its all a learning experience for her now. Alena has a major upside because she starts off as the most beautiful figure skater today. If she starts to develop a good solid 3A watch out!

So true, the fall in the SP cost her at least 3 points and she was only 3 points ish off gold, but never mind, all I wanted from this event was Alena on the podium and she did it!! And she should be so proud of herself for coming so close to Sasha and Anna who both landed quads.
