Alena Kostornaia

i don't even have words...this was undoubtedly the best short program i have ever seen of any skater, any level. there's no words that can truly describe her.

if she does this next year when she's a senior...watch out. a skate of this quality should justifiably outscore (and by a good margin IMO) any top senior right now, including zagitova.

wow, wow, wow.

I just have to say I love this SP. She was absolutely beautiful. I think this might be becoming my favorite program ever.

I can't translate it word by word but the meaning is roughly this: I'm contend with my result, it's my best score for the whole two years, I even managed to outscore Sasha in the SP. But in SP everyone is skating the same, while in free the tech contend is crucial and it is practically impossible to defeat clean Sasha for me.

I hope someone would correct me if I understood something wrong.

Thank you. She‘s really a reasonable and intelligent girl. :)

"I'm very happy that I managed to skate my SP cleanly. To tell the truth i was quit surprised with the scores, it's the first time i received such a score for SP. It's my best result in two junior seasons.
But I think there is space for grow. I hope future will be just better. "

It's not your first time that you won Sasha in SP, right?

"Yes it was in 4th stage of Cup Of Russia. In the FP i did everything clean there, but because of Sasha's technical content it's practically impossible to compete with my set of elements. In the SP everyone is doing the same content. So everything depends on steps, spins, the jumps are only three. But in the FP you need the technical content. You have to work (achieve it)"

Very few skaters are born with that. Alena is lucky enough to be one of them.

Yes, Alena is born with a special talent to convey music and her parents were smart enough to put her in ice dance lessons at a young age to develop her skating skills. Skating skills + Musicality= Magic and Alena creates the magic everytime she skates.

I don't know how but I hope she can maintain first place. It would really be a feat.

I am not sure what it is happening with Alena's 3 Axel. The try we did see in the spring was really good and I was sure at that point that she will have it consistently during this season.

She and Sergey Dudakov are so cute with that big plush bear :)

unconsciously you are wishing that Trusova and Shcherbakova fall in all their quads... that sinister...:laugh::laugh:

I mean no disrespect to Anna but Alena leads her by 20(!!!) points after the SP, she can secure silver for herself with a clean skate tomorrow, quads or no quads.

She spoke about it today and admitted that 3A hasn't been going well in training this season, unlike last year. Said she understands the need to develop it.
The problems Alena's currently experiencing are obvious - hitting puberty and dealing with a bodychange, that's why the team has decided to focus on clean skating rather than improving the difficulty of the programs.
But I wouldn't say she's standing still, she's working on details and has visibly improved her jumpheight.
I'd guess we won't see 3A from Alena this season and will get a better picture of her technical development next autumn. Just my humble opinion.

And I think this is a smart approach that will serve her better in the long run. Although I would love to see her 3A this season, the most important thing is that she stays healthy and strong for her senior debut next year. Hoping she can score a new PB in the LP tomorrow with clean skating and high GOEs like in the Russian Cup.

This was only the second time that I started crying after watching a performance (the first was Zhenya's 2018 Olympics FP), this was on par with that. Her skating technique is breathtaking: her edges are so deep that sometimes I feel like I am watching an ice dancing program. Every jump was had so much speed, so much height, so much poise. In my opinion, her skills are superior to the technique of most senior ladies.

It never gets mentioned, but I can't imagine what this beautiful young lady goes through every day. Training in Eteri's factory is never easy, and every day she must be reminded of Trusova and Shcherbakova with their quads. If I am her, I will be thinking, "But how can I compete with the quad monsters?" To keep on going, not give up and come out on ice to gift us with a flawless performance, that took courage. In this performance, Alena adds her true strength, something in which she is the best in the world - her artistry. As her last move in the program shows, Alena does not need quads to fly.

So, Alena, for your free program, I wish that you keep flying high. We will all be rooting hard for you!!!!!
