Alena Kostornaia

A little late, but there was a sport express interview with Elena Radionova on July 1and she mentioned Kostornaia having regained her 3A. It’s my first post so I can’t link it ): but I think we’re going to FINALLY get to see it in competition. This seems a likely reason why her programs have been so difficult to pin down, they probably had to change everything mid summer to add in the element.

as long as she stays injury free i'm all for it.

Also regarding the mention of Aliona Savchenko's Olympic music- Aliona would skate to that so beautifully, maybe one day we will be lucky

Elena doesn't really know inner workings of sambo 70, in her interview she was asked whether Anna, Alyona and Sasha can learn 3A, so basically whether it's possible.
So Elena answered that Alyona already jumps 3A and that there's a video of it (she was referring to one from last year), and she said she's not sure about Anna and knows that Alexandra can do almost all quads aside from loop.

But I really hope that Alyona can get it back this season, fingers crossed.

I really hope she can get it back too. If those reports on sports. Ru are to be believed, then she started practicing them without the pole harness a few weeks ago. Hopefully there has been some success, but the main priority is to be 100% healthy.

I wonder what challenger Aliona will be assigned to...hopefully Nepela or Nebelhorn since those entry lists should come out next week!!

I agree with you; I doubt that Elena would know anything about Aliona's 3A.
But like sclloyd, I do think it makes sense for them to keep Aliona's SP from last year if she's trying to perfect the 3A.

Test skates are only a few weeks away! :drama: I can't wait!!

The interview said that Alena had the 3A, had lost it due to growth, and had regained it. She wasn’t referring to the previous video, as she made clear she was aware that she lost the skill.

Can you send me a link to a time code where she says that Alyona had regained it? I'm pretty sure I've watched that interview, I don't know how I missed that part.

Hi - there's an English translation here:

And the original link/video here:

I think this is the question/answer:
Maybe it’s not necessary? Kostornaia also has no quadruple jumps.

– She has a triple axel. Just like Liza Tuktamysheva, who learned it at an early age, and then lost it during a transitional age. Now restored it again. She already had the skill, she knows how to do it, she just got the needed shape and everything worked out for her.

But it seems to me that Elena is saying that LIZA regained her triple axel after puberty, not Aliona.

Question/request for the Russian speakers in this thread. :) Since Nogagolova was kind enough to share a bunch of videos with us, can someone please tell us what the commentators say about Aliona's EX at JGPF?

In case that link doesn't work, it's the 29th video on this list:

Also - does anyone have the video of that same performance with the CBC (Canadian) commentary?

Thanks in advance!! :thank:

"She [Kostornaya] had the triple Axel, like Tuktamysheva she learned it at an early age, then she lost it at puberty, but now she has restored it." (streamed on June 27, 2019)

Beautiful programs, huge speed, blah blah blah, will be competing against Trusova in the future... Honestly, not much interesting in the commentary.

Unfortunately I think the CBC version was taken off YouTube, but I remember Carole Lane and Kurt Browning being very complimentary of her musicality and skating skills, specifically the way she gains speed with every step.

My interpretation of this quote was that Elena believes that Aliona can also regain her 3A post-puberty, just like Liza did, because she learned it early enough.

And I have to say, I agree with her! I don’t think she was back landing 3As in late June, that seems a bit far fetched to me. But it is believable that she has recently (last couple of weeks) started working on them off the harness. We don’t know how long it will take for her to get it back, and I’m sure the team is being very careful since she was just injured.

I do hope we get to see her beautiful 3A in competition in the future.

This is the translation I’ve read.

From this appears she is saying that Kostornaia, like Liza, learned it again following a growth spurt. I guess we will see in two weeks.

I think for Kostornaya is going to be easier to regain the 3A then was for tuk ...all her jumps are still almost perfect ... but to be honest I don't think she lost the 3A ( with that 2A with difficult entry it's almost hard to belive that she can't jump 3A) ... I think she only gone say that she can jump it when she lands the jump 99 % of the time in practice ... Alena has great PCS and GOES ... so she isn't gonna risk all that for 50 /50 3A

No, in russian, she's definitely talking about Liza regaining her 3A after puberty, hence making an implication that Alyona can get it back, since she's already learned it before.
She was talking about it in general sense that she thinks that learning jumps pre-puberty will at least leave a chance to relearn them post puberty.

How can she be post puberty at 15? 17 yes. 15? Nah.

I expect to see Alena to have a very good 3a in a year or 2. Why rush it? Olympics are still 2.5 years away.

Well, it's now the 24th in Moscow, so happy happy birthday Aliona!
 :hap57: :hap93: :dance3: :yay:

May all your wishes come true!
