Alena Kostornaia

Alena will be fine but this is her biggest test to date, a true, difficult test of her psycological strength and resilience, against the strongest of contenders, a seasoned Olympic champion... that IS a tough challenge. As her loyal fans, let's give her all the positive vibes and support we can!! We want her to do well, to bring her exquisite artistry to the ice in this comp and many more in future in whatever form she is able with joy and lightness of heart

Exactly, this isn't a battle between generations old and new, but rather a battle between equals (almost), I doubt few will rate Alyona skating skills and interpretation qualities lower than Alina's, so it will most likely be a very exciting and beautiful 'battle' in figure skating of the highest quality.

THIS!! It is gratifying to read this thread to know so many wonderful fans like yourself are pulling for and supporting her!!!

just posted this in the Russian ladies thread but was deleted due to competition rules, so here is a condensed version that hopefully is ok...

IMO she looks tired, the mistakes she is making aren't due to technique error. she may be jet lagged. tomorrow is a new day, and and she will come back fighting.

I agree she looked a bit tired and sluggish getting into her rotation for the 3A. Hopefully she gets the right “snap” timing back because she is delaying too much. Tomorrow is a new day and I will be thinking positive thoughts in Aliona’s direction.

Aliona has SUCH an expressive face that seeing her look upset like this is sooo heartbreaking... :sad4:

But tomorrow is another day! :agree:
I hope she will bounce back strong!

I have to say, I was really surprised that Eteri wasn't there today. Maybe she'll be there for the competition, but I totally expected her to show up for Alina (and by extension, Aliona).

As we saw in the video, Aliona really seems to draw psychological strength from Eteri, so I was really hoping she'd be there at the competition.

BUT, that makes me even MORE glad that Dasha is there with her. :agree: Dasha was able to cheer her up after the test skates, so hopefully she can make Aliona feel like everything is possible tomorrow and Saturday! :cheer2:

Don't cry, angel! We are with you!! :hap10:

Spot of advice for anyone going to Internationaux de France tommorow and on Saturday. From what I saw last year, the queue to enter the arena for the ladies event was very long esp as there is only one way in. So long it circled half the arena and had to fold all the way back to the entrance and this was like 10 mins before the event was about to begin. I advise anyone going to make sure to arrive early so they dont miss Alena skating in the first group. Maybe this year organisation will be better but probably not as the French GP has the worst organisation

Thanks for the tip!

The pressure must be high. She knows that the other two have won their events with a huge lead and she is competing against Alina... She needs to believe in herself and she is going to be fine!

Totally clean vs totally clean, Alyona should eat Alina without salt and pepper.
But versus Anna or Sasha it's absolutely a matter of the Board good will or a lack of it.

i am hoping Alena realizes all she can control is what she puts out on the ice. her scores and placement are out of her hands, and i hope this helps take pressure off. crossing my fingers for 2 calm, steady and collected skates.

So glad to hear that Aliona put out a clean run-through with a 3A!! :hap57:

Best of luck to our angel in the SP!!
GO ALIONA GOOO!! :hap10:

What time will the ladies event start? it says 18:00 in the isu but on the other thread it's 20:00. Did it move?
