Alena Kostornaia

Oh no! That's unfortunate. I seem to recall other US posters saying that previous GP stages were streamed or uploaded by the Olympic channel, a few days after the event, so perhaps you can check that out?

Yes.. Olympic ChAnne ran IDF and RC several times after each event... it was great!! They usually list the taped reruns in the guide menus towards the end of each event, not during..

Nope. Still underscored. Judges’ brains still stuck in some weird dimension where that masterpiece has virtually identical PCS numbers as the #2 skater.

I’m really happy for Alena! :)

Does anyone know of the height statistics of Alena’s 3As? I still cannot find any measurements of them. :(

I've now seen two different people estimate the height of her 3A in the SP at ~60cm:

and here:
http://fso.forum.cool/viewtopic.php?id=2082&p=11 (look for the post by opty #316)

At Finlandia and IDF, her 3A did seem a little bit wild still, but now it does look cleaner, and I wonder if that is helping her get more height.

Supposedly that is higher than Sasha and Anna's quads (~56-57cm), so maybe she'll be able to get a quad if she just improves her rotational speed a little bit. :agree:

Separately, how cool is it that Aliona currently holds the record SP score for BOTH juniors and seniors?!! :cool2: :gclap:

And here's a hopefully non-geoblocked version of her SP:

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet but if she gets the same FS score as in IdF, she’ll have surpassed Trusova’s combined WR by a few points.

It’s well within her reach, but I really hope she isn’t thinking about this at all or doesn’t feel the pressure to beat the record. She just needs to focus on delivering her content as cleanly as possible with her usual high quality.

I agree. It’s just amazing that it’s a possibility.

She should not focus on the WR because she will be putting unnecessary pressure on herself, which can have an adverse effect on her performance. Skating clean should be all she should worry about. If the record happens, then that's a bonus.

The WR is not even that meaningful at this point, anyway, since the record is in its infancy... and especially considering it will likely be broken more than a few times this season (Trusova fell on a quad and was far from perfect when she set the WR).

Just saw the SP. I've been keeping my eyes on her from the moment I saw her in Juniors.

I must say, this might sound like I'm hyping her a bit early but here is how I feel right now about her:

She is the most complete total package female skater I have ever laid my eyes on, and I mean technically and artistically. Sure Yuna was good, but she could only land 4 different types of triple jumps (lutz, flip, salchow, toe), whilst Alena can land 6 different types of triples in competition.

So I'd say Alena is much more technically stronger than Yuna, and also artistically more superior. Alena has way more difficult transitions than Yuna, better spins and flexibility and just better overall. Alena's transitions also blend with the music. Her effortless transitions between jumps and her way better flexibility, spins, skating skills etc are all unmatched by female skaters both retired and skaters who are still competing.

I would even say Alena is the best female skater I have ever seen, although it is a bit early to say such, and we need more seasons for her to grow and mature.
She is the only skater other than Yuzuru who made me feel a bunch of emotions watching her skate.

She is so special and sooooo talented, and so musical. I love her. She deserved the WR.

Aliona entering the arena! :luv17:

Not sure if this was yesterday or today...

Well, it sounds like Aliona had a rough run-through in today's practice and was struggling with the 3A... :slink:
https://www3.nhk.or.jp/news/html/20191123/k10012188271000.html

But we know she's had rough practices in the past and pulled it together for the competition, so hopefully she can do the same here! :yes2: I hope Eteri can find the right words to calm her down and help her regain her confidence!

Don't think about the scores, don't think about the other skaters! Just think about delivering the "show" that only you can put out there!

SLAY, baby, SLAAAAY!! :hap10: :hap10: :hap10:

Hoping for Seasons Best today [emoji171][emoji171][emoji171]

Well done, Alyona, that save in the corner alone proves you're one of the very best.

Mission accomplished, two wickets down and your own Golden entry into the finals :-)

#6OutOf6, #TeamTutberidzeForProgress forever!

So after reading the news articles about her practice this morning and then seeing her fall in the warmup, I was kinda worried about how the FS would go... :slink:

But Aliona pulled out a great 3A+2T! And even though she definitely didn't get the height she needed on the second one, she made sure she avoided falling, so like Edwin said, that was a major save!

And most importantly, she didn't let that one mistake faze her; she skated the rest of her program perfectly!! :agree:

Congrats, my vampire angel, on your second straight GP win! :hap57: Team Tutberidze is six for six!!
Congrats on setting a new PB total score!! :yahoo:
Congrats on not only qualifying to the GPF, but in the top spot! That's right folks, her combined score over two events is like 0.51 points ahead of Sasha! They are really neck-and-neck!

I will try to translate her post-performance interview later if no one else gets around to it, but when they asked her about the SP record score, she did mention something like, with three clean triple axels her total score could've been higher, and that she's aiming to break the overall record or something like that. Will have to watch again later.

I'm going to skip the medals ceremony and head to bed... :bed: It's been wonderful, friends!

1 point behind WR.. and it should have been, underscored PCS.

Maybe today she was not at her best but in my opinion she's always underscored in components, especially in the SS.
How long it will take the judges to figure out that she is the best of this generation and one of the best of all time? :frown:

Because a lot of PCS is very subjective and used to uphold other competitors, giving them 'reputation bonus' and 'longevity reward' and such. In my eyes, Alyona skated a bit rough today, perhaps because of the problems landing her second triksel? She managed excellently to hold herself and her program together, but there were some rough edges and corners in my eyes.

Only when all the strongest skaters compete on the same ice in Grand Prix Finals, National and World Championships we'll really be able to differentiate between them, and Alyona will stand out there too.
