Alena Kostornaia

Very brave and honest interview from Aliona.

Basically she critizes these things at Team Tutberidze

- the constant yelling, shouting and pressure
- own ideas (or wishes) are not taken into account
- ice rink too crowded/problems with younger skaters who made practices harder for her

I think the second point is the reason why Eteri has never produced champions older than 16. It's not about the body changes or flawed technique, the system of Tutberidze only works for children who are obedient. Once you develop your own personality, ideas and wishes at 16/17 you don't fit to this training environment anymore.

Don't know whether the other link with the SP will stay so I'll rather add the official one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k65_-1rZgtw

Considering she has had a very abnormal offseason with the pandemic and then changing coaches and all the controversy I must say Aliona looked very good.

But why are all the people in the stands? Isn't every sport in the world being played in front of empty arenas?

No. Here for instance the audience is allowed, with restrictions.

I wanted to post some encouragement here for Aliona. She looked upset after her skate today, but she did a great job, considering all the recent changes and challenges she must have faced. The music choice is not my favorite, but she clearly likes skating to it, so I'm sure she'll make it into something great like her Twilight program. I also think she is very brave to speak her mind and have nothing but respect for her. If she does intend to go into medicine and specifically NSGY, she will need to have that strong backbone and confidence in herself.

I like her program .. even if you don't like it.. everyone will know her program.. and about the jumps ... I'm not worry about her jumps ... they were always done with the perfect technic .. so it's a matter of time.. even now when I watched the program it looks like more that she is still adapting .. and not that she lost them ..in the combo .. the second jump was a straight line

Wow Aliona was really brave for speaking up about her coaching change! I don't remember any former Eteri girl doing this before. (I just hope she won't have problems because of this and that they will let her be.)

Tbh I'm not the biggest fan of her music and the heartbeat sound, but if she likes it then it is more important. She wasn't in her best shape yet, but luckily she has plenty of time before her Russian Cup assignments.

Posting on Instagram is a shame. If you want to say something, then express it in your eyes."
Hard Blow!
But clean and direct.
Not shady, not offensive, not involving 3rd parties.
Also to be noted she said that nobody restricted her from replying on social media: she simple refused to enter the blaming game.
The paradox here is that this come from the 17 years old.

What we can read in: Aliona does not consider herself less than Eteri.
Do you remember when she said long ago "If Eteri tells me to do something on the ice I do it with no esitation, but if we are talking about something else she's just another person with an opinion" (not literal)

"people like me, Anya Shcherbakova, Kamila Valieva cannot ride with children born in 2010". "The girls are adults. I told the coaches that there are already 8 of us, a crazy pace in training, and take children who are not used to it there (wrong). They went out and did not understand what to do. It annoyed me. I said , which is so very inconvenient. But there was no reaction. I decided to leave on July 17, before the second training session, "said Kostornaya.
And here guys we have a simple and clear explaination of the "black list".
It was not directed to her potential rivals, it was not direct to other senior or top junior girls, it was against noboby.
Her request was simply for a better training enviroment (in her opinion) but somebody else twisted it on the media as a black list with actual names.
(again who looks like the immature kid here)

Music (staged by Tutberidze ) I liked the free program, but in some places I didn’t like the short program. I didn’t like the short program, I said that I don’t feel it. My opinion was taken into account, but not always
Other translations state that the reply to her requests where more "no" than "yes".
That reinforces my opinion that Eteri, who is a fantastic coach, fail to change her relation with growing up skaters.
In other words, while relating herself to the skater she seems to be the perfect teacher but fails to become the perfect mentor when the girls become more inquisitive and difficult to manage because they pretend a more balanced relation with the coach

Aliona is something else.
Look back for example at the press conference when she was barely speaking and then somebody asked the girls about the possible doping ban for the olympics.
Anna: no comment
Sasha: no comment
Aliona (when nobody was thinking she would speak): "But I will reply" and she proceded to bash the journalist asking a question about a not yet made decision.
(note here that talking about a possible ban means already taking it for granted. Considering asking about it improper and not polite totally change the narrative into "the ban does not currently exist": masterpiece)

Well, as much as I like TT, I must say that they should change some things in the system if they want successful adult skaters in the furture. Finally, we got to hear Aliona's side of the story and now it's more understandable why she left. I really hope losing a skater of Aliona's calibre will make ET and her team reconsider some aspects of their system. Nevertheless, I still don't like to see Aliona in that team...

I was rewatching Sasha's short program and noticed a super sweet moment when Aliona appeared at the boards with the coaches after the performance and Elena Ilinykh appeared to hug her and kiss her head. Nice to know that she has a maternal, supportive figure on the team.

Alena Kostornaia will not be presenting a long program on Sunday. Subsequent to her coaching change, she decided to get a new program and is now working with a North American choreographer.

In the Russian ladies thread this was presented as being rumor only and someone else stated there had been no official announcement. Do we have an official announcement anywhere? I guess it's fairly close tot he event anyways but I think we'd have heard this from an official source at this point were it true, correct? Is there a starting order for the free skate?

The auto translate has some flaws but you can get most of it. SHE TALKS SO FAST!

She says they're working on sketches for her short program dress and it will be dark colors but much more interesting than a little black dress. I rewatched the skate after hearing that to see what the image would be if I could somehow be creative, and I realized that I'm getting the same feeling I did last season watching the test skate. The first time you see it you absorb it, the second time you realize that she's brilliant. Really hope that she isn't actually withdrawing tomorrow, I don't want to wait so long to see her skate again.

It seems it's true. I don't like this "working with a North American choreographer" at all. I don't think it will suit her. Well I'll be her fan for ever but I'm really really concerned at this point of her career. :scratch2:

This is official and Shae-Lynn Bourne will choreograph Alena's new FS program!

https://www.fsrussia.ru/news/5108-alena-kostornaya-ne-vystupit-na-prokatakh-s-proizvol-noj-programmoj.html

via Google translation:

Alena Kostornaya will not perform at the open skates with an arbitrary program. As the coach of the figure skater Evgeni Plushenko said, Alena's free program is not yet ready.

“Alena's free program is still raw, so we skated only a short one. It is unrealistic to prepare and show both programs in such a short time that Alena came to us. Shae-Lynn Bourne will stage the free program for Alena via Skype, remotely. It was my idea to try with Shae-Lynn, immediately contacted her by phone. We have known She-Lynn for a long time, she gladly agreed. Of course, Shae-Lynn would have come to us, staged and worked in Moscow, but because of the pandemic it did not work out, I had to start the production remotely. I think when all restrictions are lifted, we will invite Shae-Lynn to Moscow by all means, ”commented Evgeni Plushenko.
