Alena Kostornaia

I wish all the skaters would withdraw as well. I can't believe RusFed didn't move this event back like they should have. Ridiculous!
They've proven all along the well-being of their skaters is secondary. Even if moving National's back two or three weeks would not have afforded aliona enough time to skate in the event it would have been so much better for Liza and Anna and everybody else who's been sick. Dmitri Aliev and many pairs teams have been sick too I think with coronavirus or whatever.

I do wonder if Aliona and the other skaters affected by coronavirus are going to ask for a vaccine shot soon or in the offseason. The next season is the Olympic season and what are the odds of that isn't screwed up to because of this virus?

Postponing would be admitting to have made a big mess talking care of the skaters (that are their assets) during the season, so I don't tink they even talked about it.

Also we have to consider that postponing would be wrong to those skaters that for merite and good fortune (this year was it was needed more than usual) managed to be ready and in good condition for the event.

This season is one big mess anyway and there's no need to rush anything with Euros cancelled. With so many withdraws and skaters in recovery results won't bear the usual merit anyway.

I find it difficult to take this season seriously in terms of competitions ... I applaud those who do well despite the extraordinary conditions this year and outstanding performances are rightfully rewarded as well as providing fans like me with superlative skating to enjoy. Going forward this entire year is a learning, growing, experimental year for all competitors. I am seeing so much that is new and exciting in Aliona’s work most recently, especially comparing this year to her work even a year ago. Her expression and personality have blossomed; her determination is unparalleled in her case (as in Liza’s) and I feel her skating will reach its peak in the months to come provided her coaches are by her side all the way making the best decisions. My favorite male skater is Jason Brown because he is a perfectionist devoted to the beauty of the art. He polishes each move, moves toward his goals with dedication, precision and grace. I see these same qualities in Aliona. I will follow her progress in months to come, fingers crossed, with high anticipation

You know, I know, everybody does.
For the fed to (even implicitly) admit it's action contributed to the mess and did go against the protection of their best skaters... it won't happen :censored:

TASS, December 24. Russian figure skater Aliona Kostornaia became a winner of the Silver Doe Award in the nomination "Best athlete of the year". The winner is chosen by voting of the Sport Journalists Federation of Russia. That is already the second award for Kostornaia. She won her first Silver Doe last year.

 :hap10:
Congratulations to Aliona! A lovely way to end the year.

This is irrelevant but coming back from the SP livestream I'm now really glad Aliona withdrew.
On a different note, today Ted's words on Aliona were heartwarming. He adores her and misses her as we do.
I get nostalgia watching him commenting on Sasha and Aliona in Junior Worlds 2018. It seems like an ISU special series produced this season, in which he mentions their coaching changes to Plushenko.

December 25th is not the easiest day for me to find time and watch figure skating.
I would have find a way if Aliona was there tought.
Why do you both say that you're glad she's not there?
Careless organization?

I’m glad Aliona didn’t skate at the Russian Nationals after she experienced difficulties with her breathing. It is not worth the risk to her long term health. We don’t know if the World Championship will be held in March and if it is, there will be other opportunities to qualify for it. I was not impressed that Anna is skating at this event. She should have been withdrawn.

My heart ached when I saw Anna, obviously hasn't fully recovered from the pneumonia, was taking smell salts from Danil in the warmup. She skated almost clean despite a mistake in the spin, but then cried in pain and breathed heavily like she was almost fainting.
It would break my heart if Aliona skated there with potential lingering lung problems and lack of training. Not to mention the judging. Just clownery at its worst. She doesn't have to experience all these.

Check this out
So, for the past two years (2018/19 and 2019/20) Anna, Aliona and Sasha have been doing this photo thing at the Russian Nationals where they make ears on each other's heads and are goofing around. This year, when a journalist asked if they wanted to do it again, Sasha and Anna both refused, because Aliona wasn't there.

These girls are just so endearing, aren't they?
I hope Alyona is getting better and better every day and her spirit's up despite missing Nationals!
