Alena Kostornaia

I am not sure what Team T. really thinks of Aliona. There are many things we don't know about this situation. 😕

Maybe they might want to make Aliona feel miserable for 2 months and then kick her to the curb, as a warning to any other students who might think about leaving for another club. Of course, like I said, this is just me feeling pessimistic and speculating wildly.

I am mainly worried that everything is not settled, and that the 2-month probation period will end with Aliona not being able to meet Team T.'s conditions, so she is left without a coach or a club. 😭

Aliona said in one of her interviews (from 2018?) that the phrase that would describe her life is something like "journey of a 1000 missteps."

I think it took a lot of guts to take a risk to try a new club and coach, and I think it took a lot of maturity to realize her mistake, swallow her pride, and apologize. Trying and failing and learning from your mistakes is essential to growing as a person. I just hope Team T. sees it that way and gives her a fair chance.

And I also hope that Aliona doesn't lose her "rebel spirit" -- just learns to control it better.
I understand your worries but really, when Eteri Tutberidze decided to take her back, it was really to take her back. With her usual commitment and all. And her assistants agreed too, otherwise she would probably have declined.
This doesn't mean she is completely "forgiven" yet. Eteri Tutberidze's nature doesn't strike me as being very forgiving, and she did feel offended. But I think, when she's wrong she admits it, and she did believe Alena Kostornaia insincere, and she was wrong in this opinion. I think it will not be long for her to determine that yielding to a movement of panic fuelled by strong emotions is quite consistent with the sort of character she's expecting at Team Tutberidze (a strong will without wrong stubbornness) and her student's age, that anyway her last season was doomed for health reasons so nobody really lost (I mean, important things; money's important only when it really lacks), and that she can rely on her, maybe more than before (because, if Alena did decide to leave, it implies there was not a perfect coach/student reciprocal confidence relationship last July or she would have had a talk with them about what distressed her and how much it distressed her).
And I don't see them wilfully make her "feel miserable" at all. There will certainly be jokes to other students about the cost of private coaching and what they get for free at Khrystalny and it may hurt Alena Kostornaia at first, but not long I suppose. It would anyway give other students the feeling she did pay her leave a high price, and avoid envy if Alena Kostornaia gets back to the top.
If her health doesn't allow her to go back to the top, I think she will acknowledge it and leave competitive skating.
Now, what I fear more, is that she may impose too much on herself and be too reluctant to express reserves. I hope she will hold on.

Just a few thoughts...almost all elite athletes have ongoing health issues. Nagging injuries are part of the game. It never seems to end. Modern sports medicing works wonders healing aches and pains.

What you worry about are the acute injuries like cartilage tears and stress fractures. I haven’t heard about any serious injuries (lately) and so at this point I’m not worried about Aliona’s health.

Will Tut’s probationary period challenge cause Aliona to overtrain resulting in acute injury? It’s always possible, but I think unlikely. A 17 year old body is very resilient and can recover super quick. I would imagine an intense training schedule for the first 3-4 weeks, after which the more difficult jumping reps are phased in. Tut’s isn’t pure evil, she’s not looking to destroy Aliona; she wants to grace Bejing by showing off the worlds most beautiful skater. And by doing so, knock Plushy down a few pegs while enshrining her own position as the world’s greatest coach.

Also, I have updated my Beijing podium crystal ball (in no particular order) - Aliona, Rika and Kamila. And representing Russia (country brand X haha) - Aliona, Kamila and Anna.

Eteri doesn't seem like the kind of person who has time to waste. she's in it or she's not, and if she really didn't want to take Aliona then she wouldn't have. i cannot imagine this team wasting 2 entire months of their time toying with a skaters' career just for funsies.

there are way too many benefits of taking her than not- sweeping the olympic team, sweeping the podium at the olympics, clout gain, and showing Plushenko how coaching a top caliber athlete is done.

Is this what you think coaches normally do? Or maybe Eteri shows some signs of sadism or psychopathy?

It's the sameof AoP taking Sasha last year.
They got a potential superstar coming from the worst season in her life.
If she fails nobody will accuse the coaches: it's the skater that failed with 2 different teams.
If she comes back to the top all the credit will go to the coaches.

Apart from not wanting Aliona around (that would a be personal and not a strategic choice), there is no reason not to take her back and try an operation that will give even more credit to TT.

I must confess: when Aliona left Eteri, I stopped coming to this thread. I am an Eteri fan. I never hated Aliona, how could I hate her after she gave me so much joy with her wonderful skating? But I felt helpless, I felt a big blow, because I really believed that with Eteri, she'd be very successful and made us all happy. I don't trust other coaches. Forgive me, haha.

However, once I heard that she wanted to come back, I got very excited. My first reaction was a big relief, both for myself and for Aliona. She hasn't abandoned me. I had no doubt that Eteri will take her back. I didn't think she should apologize to anyone. She's the one who suffered the most. I am not helpless anymore, because I can root for her now.

Not like you, a true fan, who always stays with her. Not like Scott, who would also like her to have other options. I am a "regular fan", because I only believe her success with Eteri. I just believe that Eteri knows Aliona's skating the best (haha, don't try to argue with me on this one, I am stubborn). Of course I cannot be 100% sure she will be success at this point, but Aliona gives me hope now. I am not even bothered by those "probation and conditions". In case Aliona does not bet back her 3A in 2 months, and Eteri kicked her out because of that, I will be only mad with Eteri, not Aliona.

:ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
When you are an Eteri fan you are an Eteri fan. for Life! Same is true of course of alyona.
Hopefully alyona will recover her great skating from last season but it will take time
Ah, that also makes sense. You mean then Eteri would have destroyed the other guy completely? Haha.
EG is not looking to destroy anyone.;) She just wants to win.

But with Alyona back in Eteris grasp gives the great coach another opportunity to have a skater to compete for an Olympic team spot besides Anna and KV and Maya and Dasha.
This also goes for the world championships after the Olympics next season if Alona doesn't make the Olympic team she has a chance to go to worlds because I don't think there's any way all 3 of the ladies from Russia that go to the Olympics will go to worlds. That could open the door for someone like AK to go to the world championships next season.

Yes, if she recovers "only" her level of last season (and with even better skating skills and a wider repertoire for expressiveness which she acquired lately though the said skating skills were harmed in competitive programs because of her exhaustion), she may not get an Olympic spot, but she is likely to be above Elizaveta Tuktamysheva, even if the latter manages to jump a quad and two triple Axels in her free, so this means more spots for Worlds for the team.

I agree with you and the whole thing hinges on if Aliona gets her health back and her confidence back. If she does she will be in the mix for everything.

Well, you all have convinced me that I'm overreacting if I'm worrying about Team T. trying to ruin Aliona's career on purpose!

But I still worry about Aliona's health and her ability to get the 3A back in the 2-month timeframe...
I remain very concerned about seeing Aliona painfully gasping for air in the K&C after the FS at the Russian Cup Final. 🤢

I hope Aliona is getting health screenings on a regular basis (including checking for heart inflammation), and Team T. better have doctors present at the rink (and not just somewhere in the building). I certainly don't want any of this to happen to Aliona: :(

Please work hard but remember to guard your health, Aliona!!

In other news, I'm surprised no one posted this already -- Aliona back in choreography class. :ROFLMAO:

Heart inflammation?:(

TT wont get rid of her. Not before the Olympics anyway. Aliona would go right to CSKA Davydov or the professor in Saint Petersburg both teach the triple axel and quads. So this nice gesture from TT to bring AK back is also a strategic move to keep her away from a camp with good coaches that could get her right and be a threat to Anya and KV at the Olympics. If alley owner returns to form of last season that's wonderful for TT and EG. If not they have kept her away from other top coaches who could help her.

Let's see what happens. Her health is the key.

This is why the requisite, which seems to be "just" the 3A and not to a full run-through with a 3A, is reassuring. She can retrieve it before recovering her breathe and stamina, and in my opinion it means Eteri Tutberidze knows she may need more time to get back to full health and is allowing it and adapting her training program. Not letting Alena Kostornaia rest "lazily" either, she's Eteri Tutberidze you know! 😁 And in fact such a constant but not too strong push to her limits of the moment may be the best way to healing.

i was wondering if we would see this post from her :) also, i like how they made a point to not use any recent pictures from her time with Plushenko lol
I'm surprised they didn't use photos from the Angel/Vampire programs
