Alena Kostornaia

Except that it's not quite "shoulder to shoulder" -- Aliona is so tiny she makes Anna look like a giant!
Especially here:

But it is so lovely to see Aliona & Anya together again!
I always thought they got along really well.

I'm waiting for more adorable dance vids like this!

And I'd forgotten that Polina T. is coaching at Crystal now -- she also seemed to get along great with our girl. (y)

I'm so happy to be able to see such videos again.. 🤩 🥰

Polina and Aliona are pals. When Polina retired, she said that Aliona was one of the girls she still watched and supported.

Aliona and Audrey (Odri?) are just a cuteness overload!! 🥰🥰

It's great that Audrey is there to cheer Aliona up while she trains at Novogorsk (as a reserve/alternate) with the team that is going to Worlds. (y) I do feel sorry for Takara though... Aliona said in the comments on her post that she's at the country house because the apartment is too small for her...

The more things change, the more they stay the same?

Even if it is sad for her to know they are leaving without her, I'm so happy she could have so much ice and coaches attention, even if of course Anna Shcherbakova and Morisi Kviteliashvili are their first priority — but there are three coaches for two pupils, they must have had more time for her than the usual day at Krhrystalny. I hope she had already recovered much of her health to make the best of it. And I'm relieved she won't be left completely alone, she'll have Audrey/Odri. 🥰

My browser failed to render the picture for me so I seriously pondered for a moment who Audrey is. Got to catch up :ROFLMAO:

I was convinced the substitute would travel to worlds and even do free practise on the rink.
What if something come up in the last few days?

I'm thinking a lot about her and trying to figure out how she will feel seeing her girls competing while sidelined.
It must be hard, especially after losing two worlds where she had a very good chance to medal (one junior for injury and last year for cancelation)
I force my mind away from the possibility she would compete.
The selection is right and Anna, Sasha and Liza deserve the best wishing we can give them.
Liza especially: she endured so much overcoming injuries and problems along the years with new star always rising and taking the spolight and the medals before disappearing while she's always been there giving everything and refusing to give up.
If there is a girl I absolutely want (hope) to medal it's Liza.

So said, the tought of Aliona out of the ice is unbearable.😞

There are ice time and hotel problems even without substitutes, so the substitutes were named only in case something would happen before the beginning of the championship.

and once again ISU disappoints.
Tell me something new
Did substitutes travel in other years?
This being said, I confess I understand their wish to limit risks of CoViD transmission as much as they can; and I hope they will warn seriously the skaters and others who are already violating rules.

It comes up Odri because that's the literal transliteration of Audrey into Russian. They don't have a character that represents the English 'au' sound, so their 'o' sound it the closest to it.

Wait wait so Aliona as the 1st alternate would actually go to Stockholm in case someone steps down?
I'm always curious how being an alternate works though.

Zheleznyakov about the current form of Aliona Kostornaia. English translation in lower in the comments:

He doesn't think Aliona is anyhow seriously injured. Though, it's Zheleznyakov.
;)
sounds like she's very motivated to get back into previous form. i think maybe the events of this season could be a blessing in disguise.

I have no idea.
I always considered it a given for the teams that have more than one place that are few indeed.
This year it may be a good measure, but I don't believe is pandemic precautions.
ISU is pretty content to organize two competitions per year and spent the rest of the time playing game of chairs with the federations.
I'm aware I'm not a fan of ISU, and this is not the place so I will shut up

It's so upsetting I can't even begin to explain. Then I read today that Anya had a bad practice in Stockholm. If aliona never left TT she would be the favorite for this world title. What if Anya is still not right? Are they going to call Aliona in Moscow and say hey honey hop the next flight to Stockholm. Nope.

On a side note what's the point of having alternates for worlds if they're not there training on the ice with their teammates especially in a coronavirus world where anyone at anytime can test positive?

Subs will only travel when they are called up to replace someone.

I remember Emily Hughes was still in New York (having dinner at a restaurant in fact) when she received the call to replace Michelle at the Olympics in Italy.
