Alena Kostornaia

Honestly I'm not even sure Zheleznikov is a real professional. How can he with such a loud mouth?
Anyway definitely Alyona has lots of humour!

Flanker, Patee, I'm sorry to crush your dreams, but I will raise doubts about the content of this beer mug. Of course it can be alcohol-free beer but it's more likely to be some not very fancy protein beverage for athletes...
I published an interview in which Zheleznikov mentions Alena on a thread about the Tutberidze team. Well, as far as his professional skills are concerned, he is clearly a fan of dancing. But, of course, he cannot be called a delicate person, politeness is clearly not his strong point. However, he is still far from the level of Zhulin.

One more step... :biggrin::love:

Another (and rather large) interview with Alena:

I don't know yet when I'll be able to post the translation, so a few notable points from the conversation:

1. Alena really likes both programs that Buyanova prepared for her.
2. Alena in 2020 moved from Tutberidze to the Plushenko Academy, and not to some other place, only because Rozanov moved to the Angels before her (but no love story is connected with this).
3. Alena really likes to compete in international competitions, but she does not intend to change her sports citizenship or leave Russia, because she loves her country.
4. Alena is confident in the full recovery of the triple Axel and believes that she could learn quad jumps as well, because she has everything necessary for this.
5. In the season ended, Alena did not count on major victories, only on prizes at the Grand Prix.
6. Plans to get medical education are not cancelled.

Fragments of the interview are also published on the sports.ru website, and they can be translated by an automatic translator.

Translation of Alena's last interview (the link to the video was above):

- Alena, dear, hello, I'm very glad to see you!

-Hello!

-Tell me, please, how did you get here. You just drove here in some roundabout ways, are you all right?

- Yes, okay, I'm right there.

-How do you feel? Are you all right?

-Everything is great!

-Maybe a little sore throat? Give you water?

- No, it's just a consequence of the disease.

-OK then. You have no idea how many questions radio listeners have already written to us, WhatsApp is literally shaking from constantly incoming messages. But, as I said, we do not have much time, so only the most interesting questions will be asked on the air. Let's immediately move on, let's say, to a block of questions about your training, about the training process with Eteri Georgievna Tutberidze. Of course, we can't help but talk about it.

Many people have already read the interview you gave after completing your collaboration with Eteri. What do you think, I am personally interested in this - what caused the breakdown in your relationship? What was the starting point for what you said: “I can’t do this anymore”?

- Well, we just mutually decided that there is no point in further cooperation - that's all, nothing more special.

- You know, it just seems to me that when I came to the skating rink at Khrustalny ... I was still training athletes there, we met there several times, and it seemed to me that everything was fine with you, you skate together with senior athletes. Well, “with seniors” is too strong a word, of course ...

- I was also one of the senior figure skaters (laughs).

-Yes, that's right, and everything was fine. But then what are these statements: “They didn’t give me ice, I skated with the kids ...”?

- And these are not my words, it was just that Liza Nugumanova gave such an interview ... For the first time I said that Lyuba Rubtsova interfered with me. After that, I was accused of compiling a list of non grata athletes ... But no, I will not talk about this topic anymore, there is no point in that.

- So it's not true?

-Well, maybe it's true to some extent. Each person has his own truth, each sees the situation in his own way and you cannot blame someone for seeing things differently from someone else.

-Well, I'm only interested in your position on this issue. Now we are discarding Liza Nugumanova, everyone else, those who wrote something about this, who did not write. How do you see this situation? Just tell me, describe the last year of your stay in the group of Eteri Georgievna Tutberidze.

-Last year we worked, tried to train in some way, but probably I did not fit this group a little and therefore we had some disagreements.

-To be honest, it is very strange for me to hear this from the European champion and the winner of the Grand Prix final. Did you not meet the requirements [which were presented in the Tutberidze group]? What was required? Did Eteri Georgievna tell you something like: “Alena, I need two quadruple jumps from you, an axel in three and a half turns, and everything will be fine”? (By the way, you perfectly mastered this element and, probably, you will return it soon) Or did it happen somehow differently? Or did no one tell you?

- Well, there were moments when I was told that I need to work harder, I need to do more axels. My last attempts to land a large number of [such jumps] ended in broken arms. But I think it would be better not to discuss this topic, because I myself decided to jump, no one forced me.

- That is, I understand correctly that you got injured just because of the axels in three and a half turns, fell unsuccessfully?

-Well, yes, I tried to do a lot of [axels] because I thought it would be effective, but it probably wasn't quite like that.

- You know, once we had a sincere dialogue with Adian Pitkeev. I think you know him very well. He said that when he trained in recent years under the leadership of Tutberidze, after the results began to slowly deteriorate, no one was interested in him. That is, he could do forty or fifty attempts of quadruple jumps, perform some other elements, and just nothing - because the attention was switched to other athletes. Did you have the same?

-No, they tried to give the same amount of time to all athletes. Naturally, when you are just sliding along the edge of rink and your jumps are already over, the attention of the coaches switches to those who are still jumping. And rightly so, because it always happens, there is nothing special about it. I can’t say that I was deprived of attention - we worked, tried to rise to a certain level - well, it didn’t quite work out.

- I now hear from you some completely different words. For example, during the podcast “Skating” with your participation, there were phrases that you were spread rot, they didn’t pay attention ...

- I never said that I was not paid attention. This has never happened.

- Then correct me, please. How was it really?

-I said that Eteri Georgievna has a peculiar sense of humor and this sense of humor can sometimes be very unpleasant for the person whom she is trying to motivate in this way.

- Didn't this trick work for you?

- Well, of course... Not everyone can appreciate the jokes addressed to them, especially if they are very unflattering jokes.

-Agree with you. Undoubtedly. I remind you, dear radio listeners, that Alena Kostornaya, the European champion in figure skating, the winner of the Grand Prix final of the 2019/20 season, is on the air. I see a lot of your questions. Also in our VKontakte group there is a video broadcast, which you can watch and observe what is happening in our studio.

While training at the Khrustalny skating rink, were you the very athlete who learned the triple axel, if I'm not mistaken, one of the first?

-Maybe yes...

- If I'm not mistaken, did you even perform two triple axels in one program?

-Yes.

-It was, so to speak, in your best times. But we haven't talked about what's happening to you right now. How do you think, at what point and why everything began to crumble?

- Well, we were training (the sound disappeared). Well, of course, when we restored it, everything was a little different ... Well, that's all, nothing special.

- That is, the main reason is that quarantine happened and therefore ...

- Well, I think so. If I had kept doing [the triple Axel] regularly, even if just trying, I think the result would have been different. But in general, if you look at everyone else, they were able to restore [their jumps], and I think that here already ...

- You see, you yourself begin to ask yourself the question: “Well, now the quarantine is over, everyone went out on the ice, and ...”. Why do you think you failed to recover?

- Well, I recovered, but the jumps were not always successful during the perform of the program.

- It just seems to me that ... Well, you can just take Liza Tuktamysheva as an example. We were all quarantined, we all got out of this state...

- Oh, well, Liza Tuktamysheva is generally different, it's completely different.

-What is it?

- Well, it's a little hard to explain, but she has mastered this jump for a much longer time. Although, on the other hand, I was able to perform the 3 + 3 cascade again. So Liza Tuktamysheva has mastered the triple axel for about the same time as I have mastered the 3 + 3 combination.

-Well, I just don't quite...

-3+3 I restored? Restored! So I just need more time.

-Is it correct to say that now, these days, you have already restored this jump (triple axel).

- I got this jump in training. After breaking my arms, I even a couple of times ... We worked it out on the lounge and I also started on my own. I haven't done the exit from the jump yet, because I haven't had time yet. And during the season, in training, I performed this element.

-Good. This already sounds somewhat more reassuring...

- I also landed this jump during the skatings ...

-Yes, I know, but, you understand, the fact of the matter is that later, when already...

- Well, I had such a great desire to show something better, my maximum, that ... Well, it's always like this - when you try to do better, it turns out worse.

- It turns out as always.

- Yes, it works as always.

*Note: This is a reference to the well-known saying of Viktor Chernomyrdin, Prime Minister of Russia - "we wanted the best, but it turned out as always."

- In any case, you should probably not give up. And you, as it seems to me, are not one of those people who give up.

- No, not one of those.

- How would you ... I think I'm not the only one who gets the impression that you are such a combat athlete, not only in character, but you won’t climb into your pocket for a word. Here you say whatever you have on your mind. Do you think this is your forte or not?

-No, I'm not saying everything I have in mind. If I said everything I have on my mind, then I don't even know how many big headlines could be made from this.

- Do you think that there are not enough such headlines now? (laughs)

- Well, no, in this case it would be just a colossal number of headlines. I try to present information in such a way that, on the one hand, it is true, and on the other hand, so that it doesn’t hurt someone too much, don’t offend anyone, don’t be rude to anyone. But the main thing is to tell the truth. Because so many people talk with templates, and those templates are not...

-The templates are not true?

- No, you can't say that. There is some truth in the templates, but I try to make sure that most of what is said is true.

- In fact, it deserves respect from my side. Because over the years I've been with a lot of skaters and it's been very hard to get... No, not to get is the wrong word. It was very difficult to hear the information that is really true. Although you know, right now there is a tendency (especially in women's figure skating) to give some kind of interviews. For example, an interview with Sofia Shevchenko, now Liza Nugumanova. What do you think it is connected with? Maybe it all started with you?

- I don't know... Honestly, I don't know. I think if everyone at once spoke not according to templates, but as it really is, then this would not cause any special excitement now.

-There is definitely something in your words. Write us your questions on WhatsApp, I remind you that Alena Kostornaya, the European champion in figure skating, is our guest today. Let's move on to another topic, starting from your words, from your statements. You said that you were never considered the leader of the group. First, is it true?

-Yes, it's true.

- The words “I was never considered the leader in the group” - in my opinion, this sounds like the words of a offended little girl, and not the professional athlete that you are.

-Well, I was asked a specific question and I gave a specific answer. And no - there is nothing offensive in this, because the leaders of the group were Alina Zagitova, there was Zhenya Medvedeva, and all this was at the same time. Well, I just couldn't compete with them in any way. And there was no point in this, because I have two such wonderful examples before my eyes. The only thing left for me was to follow them.

- Actually, it contradicts what you said before. You said that there, in the group of Eteri Georgievna, there was too much competition. And, perhaps, this was one of the reasons for your transfer to the Plushenko Academy, because (again, these are your words) - no one there could impose competition on you.

-Yes.

-But how do you train then? You yourself say - Alina was there, Zhenya was there, and you only had to follow them - so after all, this was real progress, or not?

- Well, no, rather, I adopted some aspects of the training process, maybe aspects of behavior, reactions to some factors. For example, when you go out on the ice and something doesn’t work out for you, it doesn’t work out at all - and you start crying inappropriately, snuggle up to the sides - this happens to some athletes. And I looked at them, remembered that they didn’t succeed and told myself that it was impossible to do this.

As for (sound disappeared)…that year I on the contrary, it was calmer that there was no competition, because I could focus on my work and my training, and not look around and try to do what I is absolutely unnecessary at that moment.

- You are talking about training directly at the academy, do I understand correctly?

-Yes. Well... I'll explain again now.

-Let's!

-Or elsewhere someone else will say...

-God, Alena, so much has already been said! Everyone is talking about everyone and you should not pay such attention to every comment.

- Well, yes, I understand. In general, to follow Alina and Zhenya - this directly related to some kind of behavior on the ice. That is, I didn’t mean that I had to do the same jumps as they did, as if instead of my own program I was performing Alina’s program just because she has more complex elements, or for some other reason. It was rather something similar to a pattern of behavior, attitude to training.

-Have you ever turned to other girls for advice on technique, or in connection with some psychological problems? Have you asked them about how to behave in some situations?

-This is when (again the sound crashes). Here we are all sitting and someone asks: “What would you do?”. Well, this is how we always ask each other such questions, form a common opinion and draw some conclusions for ourselves.

-Is there any advice that was addressed exclusively to you, which you still remember and try to do just that? It does not matter who this advice came from - from another athlete or from a coach.

-Well, there is no specific advice. Well... no, there isn't.

-So you're on your own?

- Well, I know what I need, and I'm going to it. And there are just people who help me, and there are other people who are just next to me and do nothing specific.

-Who are you talking about, if it's not a secret?

- Yes, just (spreads her arms to the sides) ... Just people in general …

part 2:

-OK then. You often said that your mother played a very important role in your development as an athlete. She was on the ice during the training process, she took your phone away from you ... Well, it’s good - staying on the ice of the skater’s parents during training seems to be a common practice in the Tutberidze group, although it seems strange to me.

- No, it's not only with Eteri Georgievna, now many coaches do the same. And there is nothing strange in this, because, as I said, each person sees the truth from his own side. The child tells the parent one thing, and the parent then comes up to the coach and says “how could you do that.” The coach says something different and it is not clear who to believe. And in this case [when the parent is on the ice] everything is immediately visible.

- Did you feel comfortable when your mother was on the ice and controlled the training process?

-Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Well, probably, this approach has borne fruit at a certain age. So, it was probably a big plus that mom was able to...

-I just remember such a story - when you did not follow the training plan, your mother took away your phone ...

- Yes, it happened (laughs).

-How often does this happen?

-Well, quite often...

-And how old were you then?

- Well, probably 14, 15, 16...

- That is, for three years, such strict measures have been taken?

- Well, I can say that in this completed season, my mother again tried to do this, but she no longer had a chance. It was a phone that I bought myself, and I had a weighty argument: “Can you not touch my things? This is my phone, it doesn't belong to you."

-Ah, that's even...I see. Don't you think that excessive attention to you, to your training by third parties could contribute to the fact that the situation in training, on the ice, with the coaches began to worsen?

-What third parties do you mean?

- Well, we have not yet touched on the topic of the federation, which opposed your transfer from Eteri Tutberidze ... Well, third parties are a generalized concept. It could be your mom, or someone else. This is excessive attention - don't you think that this could interfere with you, that all these scandals around distracted you from training?

-No, I do not think so. Here we go out on the ice, we are athletes and ... Ice is ice, and everything else is everything else. There is a clear, thick line separating before and after. That is, here I am stepping over the edge - and everything that is around no longer matters to me. The important thing is that I am on the ice and what I do on the ice is important.

- But when you return from the ice, reproaches begin: “Why didn’t you do it? How so?"

-Yes, it's very hard, of course. But, on the other hand, in order for this not to happen, you just need to do it. Find the strength in yourself and do it.

- Have you always been able to [find the strength in yourself]

-Not.

- Why do you think?

- Well, because any routine is very difficult. Well, that is, you go out on the ice and every day the same thing, the same thing. And at some point you get very tired of these repetitions. Because here you are doing, doing, doing, but it doesn’t work out for you, it doesn’t work out, and again it doesn’t work out. And this period of time until the moment when it still works out is very difficult.

-Have you ever had situations where you wanted to finish with the sport?

-At the end of every week (laughs)

-Seriously?

- Well, because I started each week charged and not tired, and then I started to get tired, I stopped working out, and ...

- On Monday I came to training, on Tuesday I was tired, right?

- (Laughs) No, not on Tuesday, a little later. Well, it wasn't all that bad.

- I think that fatigue and burnout are two different things. Which of these sensations did you experience first? What did you lean more towards?

- Well, the moment when I could say to myself: “That's it, I'm done” - probably, that's exactly what I had once, it was during quarantine. We were sitting at home, and I was already thinking: “A lot of time has passed, I probably won’t be able to recover, and what’s the point in that?”. Plus, I was also depressed due to the fact that I [could not go out anywhere] (sound failure). Spent all the time in the four walls, in the apartment. I have already started looking for schools that specialize in certain subjects.

And even when they told me that we were going to training in Novogorsk in three days, I sat and thought: “Why? Why do I need all this now? But nothing - I went to training and everything seemed to be fine.

- These are really interesting thoughts - you are such an already titled athlete, but you still have something to strive for, there are still different titles that have not yet been won, world championships, the Olympic Games ... And you have such thoughts. Is it just because of the quarantine? I think this is most likely not the case.

- Well, it's just that the constant stay at home led to the fact that I became as lazy as possible. That is, I was like a vegetable - I sit and sit. And then I thought: “But every day there are two workouts, on each of which you need to work hard ...”. And so it became so hard for me from this thought alone (laughs).

At first, I told myself: “I need to keep myself in shape!” - and I somehow took care of myself. And in the middle of quarantine, I already calmed down, and at the end of quarantine, I thought: “But I like to study, I like to get some new knowledge”...

-It's actually nice to hear about it...

- In general, during the quarantine,I managed to burn out, catch fire again, then burn out again, and then go out on the ice and catch fire again.

- It makes me very happy, because you are one of the most original athletes that are on the ice now ... I know that you are good friends with Anya Shcherbakova, with Dasha Usacheva. Please tell us about Anya. She and you are completely different in character, it shows. You are explosive, Anya is rather calm. But perhaps there is something we don't know?

-Yes, most likely [you don't know something]! (laughs).

-What don't we know? Tell.

- Well, it's not I who should tell, it's Anya herself who better tell. But I can say that both Dasha and Anya are very positive, charged girls, and therefore we are never bored.

-Who were you most happy for at the Olympics? No, I’d better ask like this - what emotions did you experience - joy for the victory of Anna Shcherbakova or sadness because of the loss of Sasha Trusova?

-Of course, Sasha is a fighter, that is, she completed the content that she aspired to for a very long time and I have great respect for her, but I could not help but be happy for my friend, because Anya is just love forever. I have said more than once that we are really good friends with her and naturally, that I was happy for her, I just could not help it. But I also can’t say that I wasn’t ... No, I wasn’t disappointed, but I was very hurt when I saw Sasha and Camila’s tears - this is a normal human feeling.

-Let's change the direction of the conversation a bit. As far as I know, you study at the Faculty of Psychology - is that really so?

-Yes.

- First of all - what is the reason for such a choice? Why this faculty?

-I'm just interested in analyzing people.

- Can you be more specific?

- Some of the actions of people are interesting... It is interesting to me both from the point of view of an ordinary person and from the point of view of an athlete. It helps me a lot in certain situations.

- Do you mean that it helps to understand yourself?

-Yes.

-How does it help you? Was there a moment when you pulled yourself out of some kind of super-depressive state?

-Probably, it helps me to some extent on the ice. And yes, it does help a lot in life. Let's say I'm in a taxi...

-Situation...

- The situation ... And now he begins not only to be rude, but to find fault, something else ...

-Taxi driver?

-Yes. Well, there are such nasty people, nothing can be done with them. Or someone scolds me, someone speaks to me in a raised voice, well, that is ... The usual response is to swear back. And the most interesting thing happens when you do not swear, but continue the dialogue in a calm, quiet voice. Here [the taxi driver] is yelling, saliva is already splashing ...

- Did you come to us like that today, practiced in psychology?

-Fortunately, no, not today. So he yells, and I answer him quietly and calmly - this is such a satisfaction! And the main thing is that he has such a dissonance, he does not understand why he is yelling like that, and I speak calmly. It happens that people are specifically trying to make you angry, and if you don’t give in to this, then they get a stupor. They seem to have a running line on their foreheads: “what’s going on?!”

-How important do you think psychology is in sports?

-Very important.

-Why?

- Well, because, firstly, each person has his own cockroaches in his head, and the athlete has twice as many cockroaches. Because in addition to ordinary life and ordinary problems, they also have sports, which also have problems.

-I'm asking this because the situation that arose at the Olympics with ... Well, the situation with Kamila is understandable, to be honest, with Kamila everything was clear to me, because after the completion of the free program, which was also not performed by the best in the best way, everything that could fall down immediately fell on her, which caused just such a reaction - tears. But what happened to Sasha Trusova, why such a reaction?

-Probably because... To some extent, maybe... Well, I can't say for sure, but maybe she was confident that if she completely fulfilled her content, she would become invincible. I think that was basically the case. That is, Sasha wanted to complete this content not just in order to achieve a record, but because it looked like some kind of guarantee to her. That is, she believed that as soon as she did all this, reached the maximum, then no one could surpass her. But fate decreed otherwise.

And now she is completely sure of this, and then suddenly - bam! And at the same time, she understands that she did everything that depended on her, gave it her all, gave everything to the last - but still there is no victory. So many times she already took second or third place, but at the same time she thought: “here I didn’t have a jump, here I didn’t spin it, there was still some kind of mistake, and if I had done it right, I would have become the first.” But here she did everything - and still not the first. She has been going to this for so many years - and still no, it didn’t work out ...

- What do you think... I'm sorry, please continue.

- Well, I think that this was the reason for [Sasha's nervous breakdown]

-Where do you think people, including you, get their motivation when you realize that literally everything possible was done, and it was not enough?

- I don't know, to be honest, where I get motivation from. Sometimes I find it interesting myself. I just realized that I love figure skating so much, I love performing. It's not that the result is not important to me - naturally, the result matters. The first you or the tenth is a significant difference. But I realized that I love to perform, I love to compete, I love to go out on the ice, knowing that a huge number of people are looking at me. I especially love it when everything works out for me, all the audience applauds - this moment makes me euphoric.

-Yes, I can understand you. But don't you think that athletes are divided into two categories. The first includes those who perform just to please the audience and experience pleasure when they go out on the ice, and the second - those who also strive to get all this and at the same time strive to take a prize?

Did you have dissonance because at first you thought: “Okay, I’m not good at it, but I’ll go out on the ice just to have fun” - but then the realization came that you would be outside the top ten and the question arose - “why do I need this when I already have titles?” ?

- Well, in order not to be outside the top ten, you need to strain in training - let's start with that.

-It's 100%.

-Here. Yes, there was dissonance because I knew that I was definitely not going to competitions to win...

-What tournament are you talking about now?

-I think about what happened this season. That is, I went, realizing that I would not win, but despite this, I can compete for second or third place. In addition, I will enter the competition in a dress, with cool makeup, I will go out to please myself, to please the audience. And I thought: “Well, I won’t be the first - and okay! But I will do my job, I will do my best and I will be happy, because I did everything that depended on me, and I will also please everyone around.

-When you study at the Faculty of Psychology - “Let me not win, but oh well, I’ll still compete with beautiful makeup!”

- Well, yes, I love the atmosphere of the competition. I like to travel somewhere, to arrive in different places, to see something new. If it's somewhere else... Well, competitions in other countries, where everyone speaks a different language - it's generally super cool.

- Then I immediately have a question. To be honest, I can confess - I was sure that next season you would change your citizenship and represent another country in competitions. And this is not only because a sea of opportunities is opening up, but also in connection with the sanctions imposed on our athletes. You will have the opportunity to go to competitions, abroad, you are also pleased with this.

- Yes, I am pleased with this, but I can say for sure about myself that I will not do this. I didn't have those thoughts, despite everything that had happened. I am a representative of my country and I am a patriot of my country. So I won't do that. No matter what, I will skate and change nothing.

- That is, conditionally - even if we are suspended from international competitions not for a year, but for two, three, five years - will you still continue [in Russia]?

- For five years, I think, we will not be removed ...

-Well, we certainly hope so...

-We hope for the best.

-Of course, as always. So what if this situation does happen? In my opinion, Maurice Kvitelashvili skates well for the Georgian national team, and travels everywhere, performs everywhere, and even began to show better results ...

-We already have information that we will have tournaments. Our federation will make competitions for us. So I don't see any point [in changing citizenship]. There are tournaments - and everything is fine.

- But in any case, these are internal starts ...

-There's nothing wrong with that.

- How do you feel about the news that there will be six stages of the Russian Cup, that there will be an analogue of the Grand Prix stage inside the country with the participation of athletes from Belarus? Do you think that such an important start as the Grand Prix stage held in Russia will not lose its significance? And who will come to visit us?

- Well, who will come to us, I can’t say, I don’t know.

-This is such a rhetorical question.

-I think someone will come. If not, then it will be the second championship of Russia, a small preparatory championship.

-But doesn't that sound kind of ugly?

-Maybe there is something like that, but, on the other hand, in the absence of regular competitions - why not. That is, it is better to prepare for at least something than to prepare for something incomprehensible.

part 3:

-I remind you that Alena Kostornaya, the European champion in figure skating, the winner of the Grand Prix final in the 2019/20 season, is in our studio. Write your questions - I already see how many of these questions have already accumulated. There is a video broadcast on the VKontakte network ...

(I'm skipping a bit here because these are listener announcements)

-Do you consider yourself a titled athlete? What do you think your current status is? Who do you feel like?

- I consider myself... well, an athlete. I have already stepped off the pedestal, which means that everything needs to be worked out again.

- These are sound thoughts! I would like to move on to the second important step [of the conversation], that is, to the Evgeni Plushenko Academy. Why did you transferred exactly there [from Tutberidze]? After all, initially, when you were still little, you tried to get into CSKA, to Elena Vodorezova, if I'm not mistaken.

- No, I tried to get to Inna Germanovna [Goncharenko] ...

- Oh, excuse me, to Inna Germanovna ...

- But they told me that I was too young, they didn’t take me there. And I went to Evgeni Plushenko, because Sergei Rozanov also moved there, and at the moment when ...

- And how does this relate [to your decision]?

- I just started talking about it... That is, at a time when all the coaches were at the Olympics, he was preparing us for the World Championships. In addition, it was with him that I learned the triple axel. He constantly kept me on the lounge during training. And initially I wanted to learn the quadruple salchow, but he told me: “No, now we will work with the axel.” And in response I began to shout: “I will not do this! What for? I'd rather study salchow, I need it!”. But he insisted, and I said: “Well, okay ...”.

He convinced me very quickly, and on the very same day I already jumped. In the morning he kept me on the lounge, and in the evening I already landed a triple Axel on the ice myself. After that, I began to more or less trust this person. Well, I went after him [to Plushenko], because he worked with me a lot.

- Is it possible to say that only Rozanov worked with you in recent years?

- No, all the coaches worked with me, but if I stayed for extra time to remember some old elements, then he was with me.

-We'll continue talking about this and more in a few minutes.

(long break)

- Alena, before the break, we talked about the fact that you had such a period when you worked directly with Sergei Rozanov ...

- Well, yes, he was one of the coaches at the headquarters of Eteri Tutberidze and we had connect ... (meaning mutual understanding)

- Well, tell us in more detail about your collaboration with Rozanov.

- Well, he just helped me - that's, in fact, that's all ... His main work was with the younger group, but if I needed it, I could absolutely calmly approach him, ask - and he went out to us on the ice. Of course, he did not really want to spend his break time on this, but if I asked him, he could help.

- You said that together with him you learned some important element for you.

- Yes, I studied the triple axel with him, and he also constantly corrected my edge when performing the lutz.

-Did you fix the edge?

-In the end, yes, we did. But, of course, this was not without the help of Eteri Georgievna, who at some point in Novogorsk made me perform lutz from a classic approach, from one leg. Well, for about an hour and a half I fell, but then everything worked out

-By the way, since the conversation has already turned about this, it is expected that the ISU Congress, which will be held in Phuket, will tighten the rules on edges when performing jumps starting next season. What do you think, which of the skaters of our national team (that is, the women's team) will suffer from this in the first place?

- Well, to be honest, I can’t say for sure about this ... It depends on what technique will be chosen when performing jumps, it depends on the shape of the athletes ...

-But it’s not the shape that matters here, but how the skater studied jumping.

- It is possible to retrain in principle. It's difficult, but possible. So if the ISU says, “Yes, we have tightened the rules”, then those who did these elements incorrectly will quickly become relearned. Whether they succeed or not is another question.

-Good. For now, we will put aside my questions for the time being and turn to the questions of the radio listeners. I don't even know which one to pick up on, because there are just an infinite number of questions... Well, let's go in order from top to bottom. I apologize to all those who asked the question before the rest of the listeners.

So, the question is:“Hello, Alena! Have you finished creating your programs for the next season? Should we expect something new and unusual?”

- I can not say that it will be something completely new. Rather, it will be a long forgotten old in a very new processing.

-Which program do you like better - short or free?

-This is one of two cases where I can't decide which program is better - I like both one and the other program so much, and they are completely different programs, that while riding I just have a brain explosion - I don't know which one programs are better for me.

- Well, let's make at least a small hint for your fans - what images will be in these programs? Tell me at least in a veiled way, without revealing all the cards.

-It will be something sharp, bright and something, shall we say, a little snotty.

- Apparently, this was the description of the short and free programs ...

-Yes!

-Good. By the way, here they ask you - do you plan to arrange something like a meeting for fans? People are looking forward to it.

- I can think about it. I will remember it.

-Here you are, listeners - your words have been heard.A question about Eteri Tutberidze: do you continue to communicate with the athletes from this team after you left, and ... no, we will leave the second question for now. Have you kept in touch with someone?

-Of course! Just yesterday we celebrated the birthday of Dasha Usacheva. Her sixteenth birthday.

-And how did you celebrate?

-Excellent!

-Where did they celebrate, if it's not a secret?

- We rented... (laughs) Dasha rented a loft. Given that she was a little late for her own birthday... But it doesn't matter (laughs)

- It's not important... So, more questions. I don't quite understand... Did you have a conflict with Sasha during your training at the Plushenko Academy?

-No, we communicated quite normally, but we trained on different ice, because we were in different groups.

- Here's the next question - have you ever read fanfiction about yourself?

- Oh, yes - ficbook - it's generally something very special!

-What is it, I've never even heard of it?

-Ficbook is a page on the Internet with fanfiction, where a huge number of fanfictions on various topics are posted. That is, there you can read, for example, fan fiction about Hermione (from the books about Harry Potter), as well as about figure skating. People write about absolutely everything. Sometimes I read this and think: “My God, how do people have enough imagination to think of this? So what is this nightmare?

-And what was so bright from this that you remember the most?

- Your radio will be banned if I tell about it. (laughs)

-Are you serious? (laughs) Well, okay, let's do something quieter then, so we don't get banned...

- Well, it's mostly some kind of fanfiction about relationships within the team. It may be a real team, but the authors can bring together athletes from all over the world into a common team - as if they were all together.

-My God!

-Mostly, athletes are credited with love affairs with each other.

-Who were you in love with?

-There are so many different options...

- Was there any negative attitude towards these fictitious love or friendship ties within Khrustalny or within some other groups? How were they treated like that?

-In what sense?

- Well, it seems to me that here we are talking, maybe not about love affairs, but about relationships within the Trusova-Shcherbakova-Kostornaya trio, maybe the question is about that. Here is the abbreviation...

-I didn't like the abbreviation. And the other girls didn't like it. People say, "But we just wanted to cut back." Nevertheless, when discussing coaches, their names are always pronounced in full, and our names are shortened. To me, for example, it was not clear. And all three of us did not like it very much, because completely different personalities were glued together, dumped into one heap, as if we were one whole. And we are completely different.

-Are you more of an introvert or an extrovert? What do you like to do when you have no plans for the day and you just sit at home?

-That doesn't happen to me.

-Let's go back to the first question - introvert or extrovert?

- Well, probably, if I always have some plans, I constantly ...

-Well, you can plan alone...

- No, I'm an extrovert.

-Wonderful! So, let's put aside about Harry Potter ... “When I'm sad, I review Alena's performances. Tell me, is there any chance to see last year's free program My Way, which was made by Plushenko, at any competitions?

-This is a free program, so it will be difficult to fulfill this desire, we will have to edit the music. But if people really want to see this program... And I know a lot of people have that desire, because the program is really amazing. Unfortunately, I did not fully master this program, did not reveal its full potential, but I think that if I try hard, I will be able to show it.

-Tell us about the most valuable medal for you, about the medal you had to work especially hard to get. Well, you can call it that - the most hard-won medal.

- The most hard-won... Probably the most hard-won is in Vancouver, my first Grand Prix in the last season. It really was the most hard-won medal when I took third place. Despite the fact that in the short program I seemed to complete the Axel, it took me incredibly hard work to get this medal. It was very difficult for me both in training and during performances. I don’t even know what it was connected with, but it was very hard for me. Skating didn't work...

- Skating did not work out during the preparation for the competition, or already at the tournament?

- Yes, in general, it did not work. It was just... It was physiologically difficult for me. That is, I tried to make the performance good, but as a result, it really became very difficult for me. I mean, I got tired faster than usual and all that... It wasn't just a lack of stamina. In training, I had enough endurance reserve, but two days before the competition, this reserve suddenly disappeared.

- And the last question for this minute... By the way, many people wrote about it, and I myself wanted to ask this question - did you get information that you are releasing a music track?

- Yes, I'm working on it.

-Can you tell me more about this? It is very interesting.

- Well, firstly, I'm into vocals, and it became interesting for me to try something like that. The track is already ready, it only needs to be recorded. But you can tell by my voice that it's too early to do it yet.

-Maybe we are just now announcing the release of this track?

-I can’t say anything, because while my voice is in such a state as it is now ...

-And what does “track ready” mean, this can be understood as if a recording has already been made ...

- No, I'm talking about what's ready...

- Ah, the text!

-Yes, the text is ready, the track is being processed, but I haven't done a studio recording yet, because I want to do it well. And now I'm wheezing and sniffling, so... Well, I won't do it just yet.

-What is this track about?

- Well, as always - about what is now popular.

-What do you think is popular right now? Everyone has their own taste in music...

-This is something between the songs of Anya Pokrov and Klava Koka.

-For those who don't know: Anya Pokrov is a blogger, and Klava Koka is already quite a well-known singer in our country. For some reason, when I found out that you were going to record a track, it seemed that it would be something about overcoming yourself, about how hard it was for you at some point, but then you managed and overcame everything. Isn't that in your song?

- Some similar moments, perhaps, can be seen there. One verse has a line about me crying into my pillow and the other half is more fun.

- Alena, I want our video broadcast to be watched more actively. To attract viewers, please show your manicure. (Alena shows her nails). Write to us about what kind of manicure Alena has. In my opinion - a very nice manicure and very unusual. At least unusual for me. I have not done such a manicure for a long time, perhaps because of my age.

Okay, we still have 10 minutes left, let's move on to the present. What is happening in CSKA now? Are you training now, or are you on vacation?

- I was given a week of rest, starting from Wednesday, that is, from yesterday. On the first of June, I start training, I will already be charged, because already on June 4 I have my first ice show, and on June 15 the training camp begins. So I will start working soon.

-Where are you going to the training camp?

-It will be in Novogorsk. As always. My beloved Novogorsk! Which year in a row...

-Yes, you can't miss this place! You have already changed the group, and still you have to return to Novogorsk.

-Yes, already the fifth year... no, even the sixth year. Nightmare, such scary numbers...

- Well, what to do ... The athlete has a short career, but nevertheless, one has to endure such episodes. A lot of incomprehensible information about your training process in CSKA. It is clear that now you have a week of rest ... All the time they talk about some kind of probation, then it's all postponed, then again they say: "Alena is on probation." When will it end, and what is it all about?

- Yes, it's just that the media inflate information, or invent it, take pieces of phrases, put them together - you get a headline. And in our country it is enough for many people to read the title without looking into the rest of the text - and they immediately begin to comment. It even seems to me that if, instead of headings, the entire text of the articles was printed in italics at once, it would be more useful.

- That is, I understand correctly that the issue has been resolved - were you accepted into the group?

- My coach will definitely tell you about it. But... I think if two programs have already been done for an athlete, then this probably says something.

-Good answer! How do you see the next season - both for you personally and for our sport in general. Yes, we have already talked a bit about the fact that many internal tournaments will be added to the calendar. But nevertheless - what plan have you outlined for the training process for the next season?

-Well, now is a great opportunity to work on new elements, because now is the right time to experiment. Now you can not be afraid of risk, this risk will be absolutely justified. As they say - we are not losing a cow.

- Can we count on the fact that next season we will see you ... Well, a triple axel, or even two - this is the default, but what about quadruple jumps?

- I'll see how things develop. Well, of course - I want to try, at least I want to try to perform a quadruple jump!

- Have you had any attempts at training yet?

-It was, but for a very long time, and now, at the moment, no. But my physical characteristics, my capabilities are such that I have everything I need to [perform quadruple jumps].

-That's a bold statement!

- Well, I have the required jump height, my height will no longer increase, so why not? Why shouldn't I try?

-Trying is one thing, but performing in competitions is quite another. You understand very well that for competitiveness it is necessary to have at least one ultra-c element, and even better if there are two such elements, or even more so three.

- Well, about two or three elements, I would argue ...

- Okay - one!

- Well, that is...

- Triple axel is no longer enough.

-Two elements might be enough. But it is not exactly.

-As an example - Liza Tuktamysheva. Two triple axels, of which one is in a cascade. And she didn't make it to the Olympics - again!

-First, it's a slightly different story. Lisa, as I understand it ... I didn’t watch her on purpose, but, in my opinion, something didn’t work out for her in the short program. And that's why she couldn't [get to the Olympics]. But she had chances, all athletes had equal chances.

-Are you serious now? That is, if Liza Tuktamysheva had perfectly performed both programs at the Russian Championships, would she have beaten [the figure skaters who went to the Olympics]?

-May be. Maybe I'm not saying it's absolutely accurate.

-You say she had a chance.

- There are always chances. Of course, if she had skated cleanly, it is not clear how other skaters would have performed ...

-It seems to me that this has nothing to do with one another - if Liza skated cleanly, then others ... Probably, one could say this about Kamila Valieva - she skated cleanly and everyone else fell apart, such a scenario would be possible ...

- Well, anyway, there is some percentage of the probability that if it were so, then ... But, on the other hand, if, if, if yes, if mushrooms grew in your mouth. So it's too late to think about it now.

- Well, I don't know, I guess I can't agree with you on this issue.

- Chances are all the same.

-Well, in what sense are the chances for everyone the same?

-Literally. Chances are always the same for everyone.

- That is, conditionally, here Kamila Valieva enters the ice, followed by Liza Tuktamysheva - and they have the same chances?

- Well, Kamila does one number of jumps and Lisa does another.

-That's right, it turns out that the chances are no longer the same.

-Well, on the other hand, no one bothered Lisa to study new elements...

- Well, that's another question - of course, of course.

- In the original version, as my mother says, you have two arms and two legs, everyone has the same body structure. The only question is how you use this body.

-OK then. Which of our skaters do you think will continue their career next season? And most importantly, why would they continue to do so? I mean those who have already been to the Olympics, who performed, who did everything they could, who have already received all the titles.

- I think that everyone will skate. Everyone will train and compete.

-This is serious?

-Yes. I think yes.

- Why do you think?

-Why not? Are there any objective reasons?

-There is. For example, money. As long as you're on the team, you get paid more.

- Well, I think that along with the increase in the number of competitions won, [there is more money anyway].

-Money is never too much.

-Yes, that's understandable. But I said: why do they need to stop their careers?

-Because all the titles are obtained. The Olympic Games were won by someone, not won by someone ...

-Here, why do those who did not win, although this is the dream of any athlete, need to stop their career?

- What do you dream about in sports?

- I dream of performing at competitions, getting a boost of energy, delighting the audience for as long as possible, as far as my health allows.

- Once you said that an athlete can control herself for a year or two (but two years is already a stretch), but in order to skate the entire Olympic cycle ...

- I meant the tough, absolutely strict pre-Olympic regime. This is when on a day off you cannot afford to go to some kind of entertainment, you cannot go anywhere at all - only the house and the ice rink. Well, still an institute or a school ..

-Don't you have such a routine?

- No, in any case, I can afford to go somewhere on a day off, meet friends, I am generally a positive person, I do not get tired of being in some kind of society. Therefore, for me, meeting with a large number of people is a vacation. I can stay late on a Saturday night somewhere. On Sunday I can't, of course. I can go to the cinema on Sunday, just go for a walk, do some outdoor activities - and it won't hurt me. But subject to the strict pre-Olympic regime, this would be unacceptable.

-You and I still haven't discussed (and you don't seem to want to discuss it) your final transfer to the CSKA group. Was there any ultimatum that Elena Buyanova gave you during your transition?

- Yes, they simply told me: “Make a decision for yourself - do you want to train and skate, or do you not want to.” Naturally, I answered: “I want”, but then they asked me again several times, they said: “Are you sure of your decision?”. The last time I received the results of my medical examination, the doctor asked me: “Do you want to get an excuse for not exercising?” - and then Elena Germanovna herself told him: “She doesn’t want to!”.

In fact, I already have an adult, conscious attitude to the training process, so when I go out on the ice, I will no longer say: “Oh, something hurts me, something pricks, somehow I feel uncomfortable, I'm not ready today." Well, if I'm not ready, then I will jump, remaining not ready. I go out and do the work that the coach gave me. Tired or not, good mood or bad - it doesn't matter at all, everything will be fixed during the training, because I'm doing what I love.

-What will you do after the end of your sports career?

-I have big plans.

- Share with us these plans.

- I'm still aiming for a higher medical education.I don’t know yet which university I will study at, whether I will succeed. Maybe these plans will change, but still this dream remains with me.

- Thank you, Alena, for today's conversation. We really hope, dear radio listeners, that we answered all your questions to the maximum.
