Alexa Paige Scimeca Knierim and Christopher "Chris" Knierim are husband-and-wife pair skaters representing the USA.

Alexa was born on 10 June 1991 in Addison, Illinois, USA and Chris was born on 5 December 1987 in Tucson, Arizona, USA.

They teamed up in April 2012. Both had previously skated with other partners: Alexa with Ivan Dimitrov and Chris with Andrea Poapst, Carolyn Ann-Alba, Brynn Carman and Shawnee Smith.

They got married in June 2016. They missed the first half of the 2016/2017 season due to Alexa's health problem (she underwent surgery).

They are the 2018 Olympic bronze medalists in the figure skating team event, the 2016 Four Continents silver medalists and the 2014 Four Continents bronze medalists. They are also three-time U.S. national champions (2015, 2018, and 2020). At the 2018 Winter Olympics, the Knierims became the first American pair, and the second pair ever in history, to perform a quad twist at the Olympics.

Until the end of 2017/2018 season they were trained by Dalilah Sappenfield, their lifelong coach. However, in summer 2018 they announced they would be coached by Aljona Savchenko, 2018 Olympic Champion in Pairs with Bruno Massot. During GP Skate America they announced a split with Savchenko. They were coached by Jenni Meno and Todd Sand during the 2019-2020 season.

Chris Knierim retired at the end of their 2019-2020 season. Alexa has formed a new partnership with Brandon Frazier.

Usually i dont watch pairs , but their sp was GORGEOUS. especially the music and the fact that they feel it sooo much. Plus they have good chemistry. 😍 about the quad , it was in the fs?? Do other pairs perform quads too??

Yes, other pairs do them, but they were the first American pair to do one. It was in the FS (not allowed in the SP).

I do not follow pairs either, but I love Alexa's personality shines through, so I also like watching them. Plus anyone who loves cats as much as Alexa does deserves a fan thread.:cheer:

Alexa and Chris have to be the skating patron saints of the Le Cafe Cat Avatar thread :)

Yes. Yes, this must be so.

(LOL, actually probably just Alexa as Chris said in a video he was more of a dog person, but she is enough to cover both! One look at her cat-filled social media pages is enough to confirm that!)

He put a costume on the cat to propose to her with, that means he gets along with the cat well enough to put a costume on the cat. Ever try that? He is more of a cat person than he admits.

I have indeed not attempted to dress a cat (I actually have never had a cat), so that would explain my lack of knowledge. 😃

:shocked::shocked::shocked: Now *that's* love!

Also like that Alexa and Chris were among the first to tweet good wishes to Sammi Cesario. Classy! Does anyone know if they trained together?

No. Alexa and Chris train in Colorado Springs with Dalilah Sappenfield. Sammi trains in New York with Mary Lynn Geldermann. They may know each other, though.

Thank you Thank you Layback11. I love this team and was really sad they did not have a Fanfest either:(. I have found this forum is less supportive of this team for some reason and more supportive of others but I guess that happens. They set several national records this year it is so exciting!! For US pairs hold the highest scores ever earned! They are amazing people, not the typical skater with rich families so I have read. They have only three seasons together that is incredible and with injuries it is amazing what they have accomplished! They work hard both graduated school this year too! In a relationship so staying together engaged. They should have our full support but it often seems they don't get it? Maybe it is me?? I so respect that! Helping to really win WTT so exciting who would have expected!! It is time the US supports them! I was disappointed to see that they were not really highlighted as the other team at World's either even though they scored higher in the US highlight video of World's. They placed higher and again another record for the US with the Quad twist at Worlds and a good one. I find them exciting and really cool people!! I relate I guess as a young person having to work hard and support myself. So much success Doing this on their own basically so I respect that! Can't wait for their year ahead! Thanks again for starting this!!!
It is exciting and they deserve much better!!
I think it is cool they skate to Nothing else Matters. It speaks to their passion for the sport and each other and that haters don't matter! Their love of the sport and their own dreams do and that is all that matters. That is how I take it anyway. GO Alexa and Chris!!

I don't know if it is lack of support so much as they kinda slipped through the cracks.

For year they were Sappenfield's second team behind Denney/Coughlin, so they got less attention. Their first trip to worlds was when their training mates pulled out for injury, so they did not get the same attention as if they were named to the team at nationals. They were however the USA's highest ranked pair at that worlds.

They also had injuries the Olympic season, so again they kinda were not on the radar.

Come this season and they had to overcome the human interest factor of having two new pairs teams that had siblings of other skaters. In one corner they have Haven Denney, the sister of who they used to play second to, who is a former World Junior Champion. In the other corner, they have their other training mates, who again, is a sister (Maddie) of a current skater (Max Aaron). So they came into this season the highest ranked American's but also battling good stories for attention. Being engaged only does so much to get attention. Both other couples had some exciting potential to them.

So in many ways they just had others that grabbed out attention more so. I don't think it was anything against them, just others got the attention.

The thing that is interesting, is that they seemed to have figured this out, and came into Nationals ready to fight, ready to win, and ready to capture our attention.

I think we will see some more support of them in the future. They are charming and likeable and pretty to look at. They also clearly are willing to do what it takes and take risks to get to the top. They said they were going to do the quad twist, they did. Now that they are not only number one, but the only couple in the USA with any quad, I think they will be given more love.

Mmmm. Second day in a row I'm on Golden Skate announcing a wedding. Is there something in the (frozen) water at the moment?!

The difference this time is that the wedding hasn't happened yet!

As a postscript to their latest blog entry, Alexa and Chris have announced that the date for their wedding will be 26th June 2016.

http://figureskatersonline.com/scimeca-knierim/mid-summer-update/

Thanks to Wolfie at the IceSkating&Ritmica Forum for bringing this to our attention.

All the best to Alexa and Chris for their year of wedding preparations! Oh, and also for the skating in between! ;)
