Alexander Petrov

I roll my eyes at the draw. :bang:
Not ideal but better than skating first.

Sasha fell sick again after Junior Nats. :(

"Rent to get a working, but, of course, were blots errors. I do not know how to explain it. Perhaps because of illness did not have enough time to prepare. This season I constantly pursue any disease. After the final Grand Prix of the sick After New Year's gathering in Estonia had been ill a cold, after the Russian championship in Yoshkar-Ola, too, felt no better, ill. Season some "sick" is impossible. But at the moment I am not in the worst shape, "- - commented skater.

Alexander added that this season was for him an experimental, because according to the plans of coach Alexei Mishin, the skater was involved in a large number of starts, combining performances at senior and junior level.

"This season was for me as a long-distance race. I can not say that it is very tired. This number starts somewhere I helped because I started to feel more confident in the competition. The fact that it does not start all happened probably say excitement, although I have played at the World Cup. Perhaps the consequences of the disease affected. It is what it is. But it must be corrected and move forward, "- said Alexander Petrov."

I just love that SP - one of my favourites of the season, regardless of category. (Yes, I've said it before, I know!:)) I wish him the best for the FS - I'm supposing that with the news that he's been ill, we can count out any quad attempt? Well, regardless of how it goes, he's got a small medal at least. :)

As for how he looks - I do think he looks a bit taller. And older. There's a certain age in boys' development when they tend to look a tad - or a lot in some cases - gangly and weedy; all legs and arms. I'm not sure that can be entirely avoided if they do pull some height. He still looks good to me, though. :)

That said, the camera work seemed a bit odd to me as well.

Mishin's comments:

"- In training, Asian and American athletes demonstrated phenomenal rentals - said Alexei Mishin. - And when the moment of truth, it turned out that the Russian athletes still claim to be a leader and take them.

And yet, the first in the short program with a margin became Japanese Shoma Uno.
- Its now just extolled to the skies. Even the face of the tournament in the official program did though come here more titled on the junior level athletes. I do not like his jumping technique. It is far from perfect.

Referees frankly pull it to the top step of the podium?

- I would not say so. Just now, in the men's figure skating some fashion for the Japanese. That's at the junior level, it manifests itself. While we must pay tribute Uno - he has a great slide.

Happy with the performance of his pupil Alexander Petrov?
- Very Much. Especially considering the fact that he came to Tallinn is not quite healthy."

I hope Sasha has a much healthier year next season, regardless of whether he competes senior or junior. I'm a bit nervous about the LP draw, due to what happened at Nationals, but hopefully Sasha has learned and will be stronger now. :cheer2:

Google translate doesn't quite get the nuances of Mishin's interview, I suppose. (For instance, I don't know if he's saying the Japanese style is "in fashion," or if he's saying the Japanese men are strong. Both true, of course). Though Google made his opinions about one thing clear, and it's not a surprise.

He means Japanese male skaters are the "in thing" now. The it-boys.

Thanks. I don't disagree, though it is deserved as far as seniors are concerned. Juniors, well... Anyway, I'd be happy if Sasha a) skates clean b) gets second-highest PCS. :) No need to push the quad.

I love you and your honesty, Mishin!

Rough translation.

- In the practices, Asian and American skaters demonstrated phenomenal skates - said Mishin - But when the moment of truth came, it turned out that Russian skaters are still the leaders.

And yet, Japanese Shoma Uno is first in the short program with a margin.
- Uno is now simply exalted from heaven (worshipped?). They even made him the face of the tournament in the official programme, even though there are other competitors who are more titled. I don't like his jumping technique very much. It is very far from perfect.

Are the judges deliberately placing him on a pedestal?
- I wouldn't say that. It is simply that now, in men's figure skating, within the Japanese there is some sort of fashion. And this is shown in the junior competitions. Although it is necessary to give Uno his due - he has excellent skating skills.

Are you pleased with the performance of your student Alexander Petrov?
- Very much. Especially since he came to Tallinn not fully healthy.

No stream works for me today so I'm pretty frustrated. :(

Boyang just landed 3 quads in his LP so there's just 1 medal spot left for grabs. :((

Two falls. 6th place finish. Russian men finish 5th, 6th and 11th. Medals go to Shoma, Boyang and Sota.

No medal for Russia. Yup. But I guess this is what happens when your #1 has a back injury, your #2 is sick and your #3 is just not that good.

You are right! But I really wanted to a medal for the Russian guys! I think Soma was overscored in PCS. Boyang was awesome!

I can't deal with this... Sasha had a 5-point lead from Sota after the SP... He could've afforded one mistake--but not two falls.

A medal was easily within reach, and he instead drops down to 6th place. Quite the disappointing final group, with the exception of Boyang.
