Alexander Petrov

Sasha's interview with Sovsport:

"Alexander Petrov: no special desire to compete with Plushenko

16-year-old skater Alexander Petrov in a conversation with a reporter from Spb.Sovsport.ru shared his opinion about the performance at the European Championships and talked about future plans for the season.

Made your first appearance at the European Championships, felt the seriousness of the adult competition?
- I would not say so. I have experienced the maturity of these tournaments when I made my debut in the Russian championship. Then I was, it seems, 13 years old. So in Bratislava nothing new discovered, everything was as usual.

The final eighth place to find yourself a good result?
- Of course. Given that I did not have a quadruple jump, I think that I did well, clean.

As now rate your state, what are your plans for the near future?
- On March 3 will go with Liza Tuktamysheva to a senior "B" class competition in Hungary. Then in the 20s [23rd March to be exact] is the Russian Youth Olympics. This, apparently, is thus far everything, currently it is very difficult to predict anything. If we evaluate the season, I'm happy with it.

You used to train in Alexei Mishin's group together with Evgeni Plushenko. Now is the desire to compete with him, as it was in some competition before?
- If he will take part, of course it would be nice. But there is no special desire. At every start I compete with myself, my program. As such, the rivalry between me and Plushenko, there is none."

Wow, that's great news that he'll be participating in another competition - and so soon! Hopefully there will be better videos this time - where I can even have a prayer of seeing... well... anything.;) Good luck, Sasha - knock'em dead! :)

The SP and FS for Sportland Trophy are scheduled for the 5th and 6th of March.
There's a possibility that there might be fewer than 8 entries for senior mens, so he might not get any points from this.

On 25th Feb, Sasha attended a press conference for Mishin's birthday celebrations.

A short clip: http://topspb.tv/news/news98331/
He was asked some questions at the press conference but so far there's no transcript of what he said.
Here are some screenshots in case you can't watch the video. He was seated next to the guy in the suit.

Edit:
It's possible that the Sovsport interview came from the press conference but that's just my guess.

Thanks for the updates adelia, as always :)

It's somehow really weird (at least to me) to see a photo of Sasha in such an "old fashioned Russian" background. Maybe that's because I'm so used to see him skating or just doing regular stuff, so it's such a different occasion.

Another write-up about Mishin's birthday celebrations:

"From 4 to 7 March, young skaters from the Northern capital will compete for the Cup of the legendary coach Alexei Mishin, who stood on skates in adolescence and, nevertheless, reached the peaks in pairs figure skating. However, the main achievement of this human legend are his disciples, the most famous of which Alexei Urmanov, Alexei Yagudin, Plushenko and Elizaveta Tuktamysheva. However, the coach's Cup this time will shine young stars, who have worked with the apprentices of the legendary coach. They will show their mastery Teacher with a capital letter and win the right to the prize. And well, if the grandstand will not be empty and the young athletes a taste of victory, which is divided not only with relatives, but with complete strangers, fans of this beautiful sport. And on March 8, at three o'clock in the sports complex "Jubilee" in honor of the 75th anniversary of Alexei Mishin will take to the ice with demonstration performances of his famous disciples. Double Olympic champion Evgeny Plushenko, World and European champion Elizaveta Tuktamysheva, this year's European Championship participant, Alexander Petrov and many other well-deserved and only skaters approaching glory. Lead program invited the World and European champion, two-time medalist of the Winter Olympic Games Irina Slutskaya.

Honored Russian figure skating coach, professor Alexei Mishin became the champion of the USSR in 1969 in pair with Tamara Moskvina, is his biggest achievement. Yes, he became the medalist of World and European championships, but to a higher level only rose once. But his students - two of Alexei and Yevgeny - became Olympic champions and repeatedly won on the world stage. Apparently taking up coaching in 1970, Alexei Mishin made the right choice. And today, despite his age, he continues to raise champions."
