Alexander Petrov

Comments from Sasha:
"Alexander Petrov won the championship of Russia in Yoshkar-Ola. After the competition, the skater said something to him to work.

"In any program alarmed. Told the press, because the lead after the short program. Do not have time to prepare after a workout. But it is certainly not an excuse.

In any program fell on the second jump in the cascade and Lutz. Perhaps too spilled in the short program. At the beginning I had the arbitrary, then what happened ... I can not explain.

The main conclusion which made for himself, to roll over the program before the World Cup. Work and work that does not get tired. Cooking quad. Without it, there is nothing even jump in six. In general, I will prepare mentally and physically, "- said Alexander Petrov."

I only just realized it after a fan on Sasha's baidu bar pointed it out, but what he could be saying in the above interview is that he missed the LP practice session because he was busy talking to the press (being the leader after the SP). And that without a quad he doesn't think one can even make it into the top 6 at JWs.

Edit:

Medal Ceremony... so cute, they were each given a different soft toy! Sasha got a wolf.

I think Top 6 is very doable without a quad. Last year, Nam and Adian placed 1-2 without quads.

There's no guarantee the quad guys are going to hit it off. We saw this with Boyang at major events. Nathan Chen still lacks a stable triple axel, so I don't think Sasha needs a quad to match him. Adian has yet to skate his with-quad LP cleanly.

I guess if Sasha wants to outright win... he would need the quad, to get past Shoma (who doesn't tend to mess up like Boyang, and whose BV and PCS will give him a multiple-mistake cushion).

Yeah, Mishin, been there seen everything before. The Junior circuit is just a stepping stone in any case. The real contest begins next season with Seniors.

My wish for Sasha is that he will grow a few more centimetres in height over spring/summer time. I think that will help his jumps.
From what I'm seeing in the interviews, it's Sasha himself who is very motivated to win Jr. Worlds and get the quad out there, while Mishin is still taking a "when everything is ready" approach.

I agree, perhaps he needs to grow more. He is very small compared to Mishin's past students, and while he gets the jumps around, he doesn't pull huge GOE.

I also think it would be good for him to grow a little taller. Not just for jumps and other elements but also because 170cm is not that tall for a man to begin with...

I'm only concerned about how it would limit his skating if he stays at his present height. Other aspects of life, I doubt he'll have any problems, he certainly doesn't lack self-confidence. For purely skating reasons, I hope he can grow a few more cm.

Final celebration:

Well, boys tend to grow later than girls - they are often still growing into their late teens. Therefore at, say, 15 girls can often look a bit older than the boys their same age.

ARI several times doesn't sound good, I just hope that he has fully recovered from that and will not pick up anymore illness this winter.
And about the pictures, it's kinda strange how some of the pcures make him look almost chubby, which he definitely is not

Lakernik's interview on Junior Nationals...

I will just include the questions that are relevant, the rest you can read here:

"In the men's figure skating picture is not so rosy.

This is because the big boys rode in Yoshkar-Ola medium, and small yet still small, and it is not known which of them will turn out. There are interesting guys - Peter Bean Goose, Eugene Semenenko, Matthew Vetlugin Daniel Bernadiner, the other shoots ... But what will happen? To understand this, it will take several years.

And the big boys, unfortunately, unstable ride. Alexander Samarin the same - like a set of technical and owns, but the elements performs somehow casually, not cleaned or something. Good skater Igor Efimchuk, but the program as such, he was not. Technically quite well trained Andrew Lazukin. But I think that was a mistake coaches include any program quadruple that hardly justified in that situation. Lazukin skated last and could choose tactics. And not for nothing, now the executive committee of the Federation will consider that at the Junior World Championships went not participate in competitions Adyan Pitkeev because he - the only one of our skaters at the junior world championships able to fight for the podium. In Estonia, can be a very strong company "singles" who own quads - the company athletes actually ride on an adult level.

I have a general impression that maybe the boys program and pairs very overwhelmed elements. And if in the future will be decided by saving time program, make one element less - in one jump, it may become easier rentals and cleaner. But such a decision this year will not be accepted, because these things can only approve ISU Congress...

But today, even at the junior level in the men's figure skating without a quad difficult to get on the podium?

How come? Petrov does no quadruple. But perhaps it is enough to hire two triple axel. Net rental with such jumps will allow to take a decent place. Provided, however, that it will be clean rental. A Pitkeev should the quad. At least one. Before the European Championship Adyan ill, that did not give him the opportunity to ride in full force. Let's see how he prepared now. I hope everything goes."

Nothing about what he said surprises me, unfortunately.

Is there some specific date when the participant list for JWC will be published or can it be whenever they want to publish it?

Is there some specific date when the participant list for JWC will be published or can it be whenever they want to publish it?
It will probably be released next week.

Event schedule for Men (in Tallinn time):
March 6 - 10:30 - 17:00 Men short program

March 7 - 18:00 - 21:50 Men free skating

According to his IG, he's in Moscow now...
For a new costume? At least that's what google translate tells me anyway. I dunno.

For this season - or the next? I mean, in this season there's only JWCH left, I believe? It would be odd if he is getting a new costume just for that... Oh, regardless, I really like his SP costume - I hope he isn't ditching that!

Not for a costume, for a new uniform. National team equipment center is in Moscow.
Okay, thanks.

Edit:
Couldn't they just have mailed it to him? 8 hours travel time (to and fro) just for a uniform is a bit much. It's not as if he's actually grown much since the beginning of the season.

I wonder if Sasha will try quad at Junior Worlds.

To be honest, I do not even know will it be good if he try the quad. First, this will be his very first quad. And it scares me a bit. He had never try this before in competition. I'm sure if he could do the quad stable, he would tried it in this season. This situation reminds me Jason's a bit. The last two Sasha's free skate were bad even without the quad. On the other hand, he must do it in the first time one day. But in the JWC? This is a strange decision by Mishin. Do a quad in the training or in the competition - this is not the same thing. Adam can prove it :ohwell: Lazukin is obvious example also. But I just believe in the best as always.
