Alexander Petrov

Kind of off topic but, Sasha is the youngest skater in men's senior GP's this year, right?
So I just realized that it really doesn't matter that much how he places (as long as he skates well of course) since he doesn't have a chance to the finals or anything. So basically he really to be honest has nothing to loose at this point.
Yes he is the youngest.
But no it's not the case of "nothing to lose". The Russian Fed can be very harsh and unforgiving to those who are not favoured by them. It is true though that overall performance is more important than placement.

Yeah, you are right about Russian fed. I meant it more like nobody is expecting him to win of anything like that, so as long as he skates well everything should be fine

Given the rest of the field, preferably higher than 8th. But if he can place top 5, it would be a great achievement. :)

I kinda hope Sasha only tries the quad (in competition) when he himself feels ready. Better to up the tech at your own pace rather than be artificially ambitious. (Imo, that was the key to Nam's success last year, vs. Adian who was also talented but seemed to try too much too soon, and lost some consistency/momentum).

That was really good. My nerves kicked in right before he started to skate, I knew it would happen at some point :) but I'm really happy for him

I'm really happy too.
That was a clutch performance from him today!
And that 3A was gorgeous, the height, air position and flow on landing. Perfect.

Short interview on rsport:

""Quadruple ... I do not want to think, of course, but I would like to show it to the championship of Russia, which will be held in December in Yekaterinburg. In training I do a quadruple toe loop, but still it is not as stable, to insert it in the program. When it's stability , then I will insert it. No hurry there, but I understand that this does not get away, "- said Petrov.

For the short program at Bordeaux Russians received 74.64 points from the judges. "Overall I am satisfied, although I would not say that it was a perfect rental. It was probably average" - admitted Petrov.

According to him, he set a goal this season "to express themselves and gain experience." "It's the most important thing. I'd like to, of course, that the scores were no worse than last season, and better. We will still work on it. I think in the near future is already going to try to be equal to (rivals)," - said Petrov.

"As long as I give them to the elements, without a quad difficult to deal with such as Yuzuru Hanyu, Patrick Chan and everyone else. Component of the competition until the second estimate, but if the complex elements does not appear, it will be even harder," - he summed up the skater."

So still no quad coming :( but I'm glad he is taking his time and not forcing himself to anything he doesn't feel comfortable just yet.
and well his skills with the cameras might be more on the video side  but anyway he was adorable with that teddy

Well, at least I don't have to worry about the quad tomorrow.:)

And, generally, I'm not worried about them pushing the quad before it's ready - that isn't the Mishin way. If it isn't stable in practice, it won't be there. They won't be tossing it in there, just because. He's clearly applying the same strategy as with Liza and the 3A last season - stabilise everything, then increase the difficulty.

According to the Challenger Series table, Russia is sending Moris, Pitkeev and Gorshkov to the final CS event, Golden Spin. If the entries stay the way they are now, it means Sasha won't be going to any CS events this year. I don't know if that's by choice or the Federation's decision. In that case, a top 24 ranking (and consequently GP assignments next season) at the end of the season might be an issue depending on how the rest of the season turns out. Anyway, we'll see how it goes.

Gorshkov interview:

""It's horrible what happened in Paris. The decision not to cancel the competition in Bordeaux was a joint. What to do if you cancel? What do with a series of Grand Prix then? But for now, as I understand, this decision (not to cancel start) - a decision at this time. In the course of the day it can change. After the tragedy occurred late at night, now there is a rethinking of the situation, and a lot depends on the French law enforcement agencies, "- said the Gorshkov.

The interlocutor of the agency admitted that the athletes may have problems with departure from Bordeaux. "I think that everyone will have problems with the departure from here, because there was information that the closed borders of France," - said Gorshkov."

"Irina Zhuk, the coach of the dance duo Alexander Stepanov - Ivan Bukin, who participated in the Grand Prix in Bordeaux, said that tomorrow athletes fly to Moscow via Amsterdam.
"We have here is calm, two hours will be held the meeting of our team. The boys, of course, very upset. So what to do ..." - commented the coach."

The Moscow based skaters have a flight back to Moscow tomorrow. I hope Mishin's group can fly back to Russia tomorrow too, even if it means going to Moscow first and then back to St Petersburg. :(

Edit:
Rus Fed's twitter account:
"News from Bordeaux with our kids and coaches all is well , they're safe . In the near future they will return to Russia."
