Alexander Petrov

 He was brilliant. Absolutely wonderful. And he's won a medal. Without a quad. The only man to skate 2 clean programs. I'm so happy I'm crying.

Yeah, you should have heard my scream of joy when the points came in. My neighbors probably think I have some serious issues but what can you do

I'm so so so happy for him.

He had the highest TES in the FS. Without a quad. 167.03 (81.83+86.20).

"Alexander Petrov surpassed the plan!
25.12.2015 17:53:01 | Figure skating | Figure skating. Russian Championship 2015

Today, 25 December, in the championship of Russia on figure skating in Yekaterinburg were played medals in men's competition. Introducing St Petersburg Alexander Petrov, who was the first day of competition in fifth place, with the execution of any program received 167.03 points and scored a total of two programs 248.64 points. This allowed the skater from St. Petersburg to take third place. The special correspondent of the portal TEAM RUSSIA-2014 Boris Jodorowsky quoted Alexander Petrov after the speech.

- Feeling great! - Said Alexander Petrov. - While planning to hire another in Yekaterinburg. They wanted to insert into any program quadruple toe loop. In the morning we consulted with Alexei Mishin and decided that more important than pure rental. Before the championship Russian goal was to get into the "six" and an expanded team. It turns out that even exceeded the plan!

In training quadruple manage?
- We do not distinguish quadruple toe loop in a series of other jumps. Just as well we are working on a triple axel and a triple lutz. Alexei Nikolayevich to quadruple gives three attempts. If picked, we have to do again. Count does not matter, go to the other jumps.

At the European Championship, you can go without a quad?
- Of course not. If you trust me to speak in Bratislava, we will insert a quad in the short program, and arbitrary. There are no other options.

Mishin never crossed the maturation process of their students. Are like is you transition from junior to adult skating?
- There are disagreements. In the details, of course, but in figure skating from the detail it depends very much. Already am making a contribution to the creative moment, I am not a robot, executing any team coach. Sometimes Alexei Nikolayevich agrees with my arguments, sometimes not. In general, the work is very fruitful, and its results are seen today."

Fascinating answers...

Same interview but transcribed by a different journalist so there are some variations in meaning:

"Alexander Petrov: "Third place in the championship of Russia was a surprise for me"
December 25, 2015

For me, the final result of the championship of Russia was a surprise - did not hide Alexander Petrov. - The main idea was pure skate my programs. It turns out that I have to justify their hopes and coach Alexei Mishin.

For me, this bronze championship of Russia is a major success in my career. Great results I have not yet reached ...

As for my long program, we planned a little differently. We wanted to insert a quadruple toe loop, but consulted with the coach and decided to just go with a pure triple. The challenge was to get into the top six. But once on the podium, I exceeded the plan ...

In training, I do not make a priority quadruple execute all three attempts. When plucked, I do it again. But if you did not go, then go to the other jump. While I understand that you need to insert one quadruple in the short and arbitrary program. At the European championship without them there is nothing ..."

Upcoming events currently look like this:
Jan 4-10 Mishin Camp in Estonia
Jan 19-22 Junior Nationals (I don't think he will go to this because he's probably going to Euros)
Jan 25-31 Euros
Feb 12-21 Winter Youth Olympics (selection for this might be tricky if he skips Junior Nats. It might depend on how well he does at Euros I guess. But is the Fed really prepared to deny their senior mens bronze medalist a YOG spot?)
Mar 14-20 Junior Worlds

This article is a lot clearer:

"YEKATERINBURG, December 25 - R-Sport, Anatoly Samohvalov. Figure skater Alexander Petrov said that he was sure to be included in both programs for at least one quadruple jump if he is taken to the European Championship.

On Friday in the championship of Russia in Ekaterinburg finished performances in men's figure skating. Petrov was third. Places at the European Championships currently guaranteed winner Maxim Kovtun and runner-up Mikhail Kolyada. Third member of the European Championship will determine the coaching board of Figure Skating Federation of Russia.

"Without a quad for the European Championship definitely can not go. It is necessary to insert at least one such jump in the short and long" - Petrov told journalists that does not yet include in their programs quads.

"In general, turned out very well (in the championship of Russia), I think this is a major success in my career. While most of the results I have achieved. Coach Alexei Mishin's task for me was to make three attempts to quadruple each workout. If you do not matter, then go to the other jumps. For me, the quad in fulfilling the plan for training does not differ from the axel or triple lutz,"- said the skater.

European Championship held in late January 2016 in Bratislava."

Is it certain that he got the third spot to euros, or can they still give it to someone else?

And if I understood the interviews right, they decided this morning not to take the risk with the quad and go easier and clean. That takes nerves of steel to execute, that I can say with experience. (more or less vague translation and not my first language so I could have misunderstood many things)

But I'm really relieved that their plan worked… better than anyone would have expected to be honest. :)

They can give it to someone else if they want to. But the 4th placed person has no quad either. Voronov is 5th and Aliev is 6th. IMO if Mishin wants Sasha to go to Euros, he will get the spot.

Yes, you understood right, they changed the plan in the morning. It's also interesting to read that he only makes 3 attempts at the quad per practice session. Same for 3A and 3Lz.

I'm relieved too, I was really nervous, not knowing what to expect. But Sasha has nerves of steel, just as you said. Really amazing. :)

Bronze! Woohoo! I'm so happy and proud of him!

I just came home from my brother's to find this news! Marvellous!
