Alexander Petrov

Yeah, it will certainly be interesting to see how Sasha will fair when he moves to seniors next season... oh wait.

Mmm, I think I mixed him up with Alexander Samarin, who is going to JWC but wasn't sent to YOG, since Dmitri got better results this season and at Nationals. Nevermind this, then. :confused2:
Russia has 2 spots for World, right? What are the odds that he can be sent there? (I guess Maxim will have one spot, but it can be between Mikhail and Alexander, though Petrov is quite likely...)

Samarin is too old for YOG. He was never on the candidates list.
Sasha is not going to Worlds. The Federation will very likely be sending Kovtun and Kolyada.

I see, thanks for the insight. In that case, the men team is almost set and it's going to be a tough fight for the last spot on the ladies' team if Anna's spot is really in danger. But as Liza is not going at Russia Cup, and if Yulia decides to focus on her training only, then we almost have the Russian final team.

I know right, he has been quite consistent in both of his senior GP this season.

And Euros - don't forget! :)

In fact, the silver lining is that this has actually been his first wholly senior season - he's done no junior competitons whatsoever. (No, I wanted him to go to junior Worlds' at least - just making lemonade.:)) There's really no question of his being regarded as a junior any more.

He's still on the junior national team.
So next season will be his first full season as a senior. As bronze medalist at Nationals, he'll very likely be able to get a spot on the senior team.

Well, as a bronze medalist he should get a spot on the senior team, surely? I mean, I don't know what their criteria is exactly, but still...

Of course he deserves it and generally speaking medalists get on the team. But this is Rus Fed. And they are not fond of him. So nothing is ever 100% certain.

I see what you mean, of course.

However... I just don't see what excuse they've left themselves not to put Sasha on the team. Not only is he the senior National bronze medalist - as I said, he's done ZERO junior competitions this year. They themselves elected not to send him to any that he was eligible for. Ne'er mind YOG - let's say Aliev has the quad and therefore has higher scoring potential in their eyes. What about junior Worlds'? What possible "excuse" could they have had not to send Sasha - other than that he's been skating senior the whole year?

I just don't see what loophole they've left themselves to wriggle out of this. Or, in other words, I don't see this genie being put back into the bottle.:)

They don't need to give a reason for doing anything to a 3rd placed guy. There is nothing that they need to wiggle themselves out of.
But it's not an issue that other coaches would contest, so he will probably get it.
And it's not the label of "junior team" or "senior team" that I care about but rather the funding.
