Alexander Petrov

will there be full vids of the performances????
Not unless some kid or his/her mum uploads a video to YouTube. Most of the audience there were quite young children. There's a well known Russian photographer who went. She took pics and maybe videos but I don't think she will upload her videos. Anyway the programs are the same as the Cup of SPB.

There are some similarities between his 2014 and 2016 EXs (the ones he did for Mishin's galas), and his 2016-2017 FS. A few choreographic moves are the same. Sasha did those two EXs himself. So I'm fairly certain he's had some choreographic input in his competition programs as well. There was a quote from last season, from an interview after Nationals, in which he stated that he has his own opinions about creative elements and is actively making a contribution to details in his skating.

There is second point about his skating that I wish to make, and this is about the quality of his overall skating and skating skills. Having had a brief exchange with a skating fan from the other forum, and reading some comments on Sports.ru and VK, the general impression is that it has improved. In the summer IIRC he did some work with Gennady Kaskov, Alexander Abt and Richaud on skating skills. So it seems that working with these outside coaches has really helped.

I've added the competition videos to the OP, first time in 6 months that we have new videos, has it really been that long?
I don't have confirmation on who did his SP. I could ask someone but I think it's best to wait for the official ISU profile update.

Short clip from CoSPB.
Can't really tell how much faster he is now, except to say that he's definitely faster than all the other guys who took part.
And apparently there is at least one signature "hair move" in his FS. SP costume also looks more interesting on video than in photos.

Edit:
And if you are wondering when he might be leaving for Sochi, it will probably be this morning (Monday), that's if he is going.

So there were "proper" videos being made? Any chance of those seeing the light of day?

Not sure. There were also proper videos filmed at Mishin's gala in March but they never uploaded Sasha's so I don't they will upload every skater's video this time either.

Oh apparently the guy who filmed this and two photographers who worked with him are selling their stuff. So I guess we won't get to see the video then.

There will definitely be video by Sat night (Sochi time). I'm pretty excited for that. Eager to see if any choreographic changes have been made to the programs, since we already know the layout and the costumes.

They are in Sochi. They took the afternoon flight and arrived around dinner time. Supposedly (this is according to chatter in forums) there will be closed door training and evaluation from Federation "specialists" from 6-9 Sept and then 10 Sept will be the SP and 11 Sept the FS. Both 10-11 Sept are ticketed events open to the public.
You could say that the "real" test skates are the ones behind closed doors from 6-9 Sept while the 10-11 Sept ones are more like galas. That's one way of looking at it.

Edit:
According to one of the girls, preparation for the test skate has gone well.

Edit:
Oh another thing, Finlandia entries deadline is today. So hopefully we will find out soon whether he will be going.

Edit:
Third thing (sorry, stuff slips my mind now and then), the 1 Sept celebrations were supposedly to mark the opening of the new rink for "Star Ice", not just a celebration for Knowledge Day. I think currently the elite group still trains at Yubileyny.

He finished morning practice a couple hours ago. From other skaters' social media accounts it seems they are staying in the Sirius hotel.

Sasha's schedule for today, 7 September:
10.15-11.15am (training arena)
3.45-4.45pm (main arena)

At this point, he would have already completed his afternoon session.
He's in the same training group as Dmitriev and Gorshkov. There are only 6 mens singles skaters attending the test skate.

I'm looking at a photo of today's practice schedule at the main and training arenas and Sasha's name/group is not on it. I think they are probably rotating groups given the limited amount of time. But he should still be doing off-ice training. Probably he'll be back into the arenas tomorrow.

Edit:
Another theory floating around is that those the Fed intends to spend more time assessing are receiving more ice time. But it's quite impossible to tell because the schedule on 6 Sept was never shown to the public so we just won't know for sure.
