Alexander Petrov

TASS interview, which is basically the same as the Rsports one but differs in tone. I guess it all depends on who is the journalist.

"For me it's the competition, which is necessary to adequately address, and to qualify for the European Championship in Ostrava, - said the skater -. This is the most important season, because the quota for our team at the Games in PyeongChang will be determined on the basis of the World Cup."

In the short program figure skater failed to do what he had planned. "I am not happy, did not do as planned - said Petrov -. Before the competition with coach Alexei Mishin conferred and decided to bet on a clean skate (in the SP), abandoning a quadruple toe loop, but the quads are ready, they will be in the long program."

For the first time, Petrov opened the Championship of Russia. "I was not bothered by the responsibility of the first skater, so it did not put pressure on me" - said athlete.

I find it hard to believe that Mishin would allow him to put a quad in the SP. So I don't know at what point they decided that they weren't going to do the quad in the SP. Or was it just in his declared layout. Questions questions. But no answers.
Anyway, tomorrow I await the quad. I hope Mishin doesn't change his mind yet again.

Finally some good news! The quad better be in the free though, or else I will be very disappointed. But Sasha usually has nerves of steel in FP so trusting on that...

I hope so too! Funny thing, though, that as soon as I read about him going for a quad, I felt this knot of angst in my stomach, and a "I can't breathe"-sensation. And yet, should there be no quad attempt, I shall be terribly, terribly disappointed. What's the life of a fan?;)

It better be in the free or else I will be forced to conclude that Mishin has been lying to this 17 year old all long because Sasha certainly believes that it will be in the free.

After I saw the warm-up, I knew it already.
Mishin has locked that quad up and thrown away the key.
Why is he doing this to him, I don't understand. By holding him back, Mishin is limiting his potential.
And so Sasha's season ends like this. First time in 3 years he will not be at a major championship after December.

Not okay, not okay at all.
What harm can it do for Sasha to try the quad? He doesn't have to nail it the first time or even on the third time but now that he doesn't even try it...

There is so many things wrong abut not having the quad. I feel like the main problem is that as long as he goes clean on both programs, it's fine. But that puts so much pressure on him. No human can skate perfectly every single time. And if the case is that his 4T is somewhat fine, he should just go for it.

Really there is so much more I'd like to say, but let's leave it at that.

And btw, PCS was almost 3 points lower than last year. So we're looking at a downward trend here in terms of PCS too. Both for the short and for the free.

Someone also please tell me, what does he have to lose when he's 9th after the SP? What could he possibly stand to lose by trying the quad?

Edit:
I feel so sorry for Sasha.

If you have anything to say to me, send me a PM, I will read those.

Merry Christmas.

Yeah, I'm back. Just this once.

Back to say two things.

1. I want to make it clear that I am not at all disappointed in Sasha himself. No disappointment whatsoever in him.
2. He will skate in the gala tomorrow/today. So set your alarm clocks. And check the time of the gala, I can't remember it off-hand. He will skate quite early.

Edit:
Nope, he won't be in the gala. The first source was inaccurate. And now I feel like face-palming.

HAPPY NEW YEAR Sasha Petrov fans!

May this year be a fruitful and rewarding one for us all. Good health, prosperity, and happiness to each and every one of you!

For me personally (skating aside), 2016 was a very sad one. So I wish that 2017 will be much, much brighter and filled with hope and joy again.

For Sasha, in skating terms, 2016 was not a great year either. So I very much wish that 2017 will be a vastly better year for him.

Have a good day, I will be back soon!

Winter/Summer Camp information.

5-13 Jan in Courchevel. As I said before, Benoit will be there. But the chance of Sasha ever getting another competitive program (and I mean a whole program not some touch-up work) done by Benoit is close to zero.
15 Jun - 7 Jul in Courchevel.
23 Jul - 30 Jul in Andorra. Is this the first time that they are holding the camp in Andorra?

He absolutely perfected all triple program! It was totally perfect 3 times. Now it's time to take that perfection to the sp and add a quad.
