Well okay, the quad was only UR and not downgrade. And the 2T did count. But what really hurt him were the levels and for some inexplicable reason the GOE on both his 3A and 3Lz were incredibly low. In fact all across the board the GOE was just very low.
As for PCS, the first judge (USA) pretty much hated him. Everything in the 5s. Not surprised, since that judge is from the US. Anyone remember what happened at JGPF 2014? Yeah, same kind of thing. 4th judge (Finland) also disliked him, everything in the 6s.

I think that if you really care about someone, really care whether he succeeds or not, you have to tell him what is working and what isn't. You should not pretend that everything is alright and fine. Maybe Mishin just simply has terrible taste and no musical sense whatsoever. But I find it hard to believe that everyone around Sasha has the same problem as Mishin. There must be someone close to Sasha who realizes how bad his SP music is.

They could work on Sabre Dance. Or just change the music and make minimal changes to the choreo. Or just go back to any old SP of his. Anything would be better than this. Anything.
And I have zero hesitation in bashing this music as a fan - because the problem is NOT in Sasha's skating. At all. It is the music. Pure & simple - or impure & simple. As the case may be.
It will be interesting to see if there is any change in PCS for his LP. If there is, that will be telling. If there isn't - well, that doesn't mean much, as one often sees that judges go on preconceived notions, and are incapable of actually judging what is before them. They'll just go: "Oh, yes, him. Hated him." and give PCS accordingly.

El Conquistador... That SP is a thing of beauty, and he has grown so much as a skater... Next to Oblivion that's my favourite Sasha program.
So, I finally watched the SP. And I tried a new experiment - I can't face that music; I can't!

It didn't quite work as well as Immigrant Song, but it had its surprising moments - also it allowed me to actually enjoy Sasha's skating. (We watched Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 this Monday, hence why I'm listening to this.). I generally hate the kind of "montage" where the original music has simply been ripped off and replaced with something else - it sets my teeth on edge. But if I had any video editing skills at all (I have worse than none - and yes, that is possible), I'd do that to Sasha's SP videos. Let people see that it is the music that is at fault, and let them appreciate his skating. As it is, I suppose I'll just keep trying different things...

I am not really concerned about jumps at this point in the season. He didn't fall so mentally he's in the right frame of mind. The concern really is about PCS, the same issue as last season. And it is a concern because Mishin seems to think he is on the right track in terms of developing Sasha's PCS, when the scores for the last 12 months say otherwise.
He didn't have any jumps in the second half, that also cost him points. They must address this issue. He is probably capable of back loading 2 jumping (axel and lutz) passes and I think that's what they should do.

Why wasn't this issue addressed by Rus Fed at the test skate? Or was it addressed but no action was taken? It's a bit strange. Perhaps the Lutz was meant to be in the second half but the timing was off by a couple seconds. In which case they should modify the choreo a bit to give him some leeway and ensure that the jump is safely in the second half. I would put the Axel in the second half too but Mishin has never done that before, despite Sasha's consistency with that jump, so I doubt Mishin will change his mind.

Sabre Dance, altho old-fashioned, is a renowned composition. And they had Ramil Mehkdiev working with him on it.
His current SP music is not just poorly cut but it has nonsensical noises littered throughout, things like girls screaming, scratchy sounds, and some other stuff. If they wanted to do Elvis, they should have just used an original song. And leave out "Tutti Frutti" for Christ's sake.

Me too. But I know I won't be able to stop myself - especially if I do something so ill-advised as to swear off saying another word about it ever again.
As for Rus fed notes - I doubt they'd have time to implement any changes between the test skates and now. Of course the only note I'd REALLY be interested in would be: "Scrap this piece of garbage!!!"

I don't think Sasha was that disappointed in how he skated. He's really tired some mistakes were understandable.
But PCS very low. To be honest, it was expected. When he was clean with that program last season, his PCS was only around mid 70s. So with 2 falls, it's going to be in the low 70s.
Again, I don't understand the reason for keeping a program that didn't score that well even when clean. But I don't understand a lot of decisions Mishin has taken on Sasha's behalf in the last 2 years.
