Alexandra Trusova

I rewatched Sasha's program's from the 4th stage of Russian Cup and I was equally awed by her as I was watching this competition live. My jaw dropped to the floor when I saw her 4Sal. I get why the Russians are calling her Ruska Rakieta :)

Anyway, came here to wish Alexandra two clean skates in the upcoming Rostelecom Cup ❤️ As Yuzu would say - do your best Sasha and may your hard work pay off :)

Trusova's 'New Look' is a main feature of the new season. We talked to the designer of her dresses

Alyona Kuklycheva's interview about criticism from fans, the costume and dresses of gymnasts were altered twice for several thousand dollars.
One of the most discussed phenomena of the first half of the season in our figure skating was the new dress of Aleksandra Trusova. Green on ice? Boldly. Pink flowers in the decoration, neckline with thin straps and delicacy? Even bolder!

In the minds of many fans and specialists, Trusova remains more of a tomboy than a matured beautiful girl. And this unfair stereotype had to be corrected - sometimes even a girl with a abs hewn from granite and four notations in the Guinness Book of Records wants to put on a delicate dress and go skating beautifully to lyric music.

To help us all recognise this new Sasha, her team turned to a designer that no top skater had worked with before. Alyona Kuklycheva is a new name in costume design for figure skating fans. At the same time, for almost ten years, Kuklycheva has been sewing leotards of exceptional beauty for female gymnasts, using unusual technologies and rare materials in her work - glitter fabrics, Dolce Gabbana silk and much more.

A week before the Russian Grand Prix, out Match TV correspondent came to the designer's workshop for an interview.

Erm... is it just me or are those comments about Sasha’s body kind of inappropriate? She’s still a teen, I wouldn’t go there personally.
the whole costume sewing process seems like a mess... why would they pick an inexperienced designer who hasn’t really done FS costumes before? :(
Whoever advised to pick this designer did a bad service to Sasha and her team.

Economising on Plyushchenko's part, after first going for the most expensive option possible? Same with Kostornaya's dresses? These reasonably experienced seamstresses who worked with gymnasts perhaps have little experience with figure skaters, who hunch down when going into their entrances to jumps? Thin shoulder straps and a low cut front do the skater with a filled out bosom little favour ... Trusova was lucky there were no 'slips', even though she is still all muscle.

Trusova's dress was almost completely redone it seems, and now fits her better. Colour, pattern etc, are a matter of style. Personally, I like the Northern Lights turquoise and pink/purple hues, but here again, an experienced figure skating seamstress like Olga Ryabenko knows better and would have given the skater and her coaches the proper advice.

The article is clear as to the discord between the former and present seamstresses. The new seamstress now has the chance to establish herself.

I don't think that's fair. I mean the dress is beautiful! Plus Sasaha's hardly the first skater to have her costume modified from its first creation.

It's not as if Alyona Kuklycheva is completely inexperienced, the article says she's designed gymnastics leotards for a decade. It's not likely, then, that any of the stones will fall off, getting a costume deduction or anything.

I'm disappointed that some fans in Russia (and perhaps in other countries) have sent hate to the designer. What's up with that?

A fascinating read. Sad to hear that there won't be a new FS dress. Sounds like no one was on the same page about what image to present, and in the end they hated the final result. A pity, but I have to admit that when Sasha first described the concept of the program as the evil spirit of love, the first thing I imagined was that purple GoT dress. Juliet is usually portrayed in burgundy/purple, and combined with the warrior cutouts gets close enough to the idea of evil love

I don't get the hate for the designer. The end product is beautiful, and no one was cutting corners on cost. The designer specifically says that her prices have scared away other skaters in the past. I appreciate that they went with someone who could offer a fresh eye and new ideas. Not to mention, she is clearly doing her due diligence to learn and expand her understanding of figure skating costumes, even going to Kazan to see it live. I commend her for that.

Are we sure that's the dress they settled on? It's truly hideous, and not exactly what I would consider a corset or a traditional Juliet costume that she implies in the interview. Anyway, I'm sure they will continue exploring using other designers in the future. Since she is used to designing rhythmic gymnastics costumes, perhaps her style is too embellished to suit Sasha.

I wasn't commenting on the 'beauty' part of the costume, I meant the technical part. She herself says in the interview that she's a complete novice when it comes to FS costumes and had to get all the info from the client, she mentioned that they had to tell her how the 'underwear' part of the costume should be sewn, which to me seems like blatant incompetence on her part. That aside from how awkwardly the top part of the dress was looking on the first outing, and her giving some kind of private details as to why is happened, has really bugged me the wrong way.
So the question is, who advised to pick the person who isn't experienced in technical details of sewing FS costumes, where it's really important.
IDK, this designer is just giving me massively wrong vibes with her interview.

The design itself is up to everyone's taste, I didn't personally like neither the allegedly new FS dress, nor the short one. They look like they were made really fast. However, I don't think it's really important who skates to what and in what kind of dress this season, so I think everyone deserves a break for their choices. The really important costumes and programs would have to be picked next year.
Just... I hope they won't pick her next season, and will do some due diligence beforehand.

I believe that Sasha gave up this dress back in September and the designer put it up for sale. By the way, this dress has already been bought by someone.

I would imagine all designers have to start somewhere and it's not as if she didn't fix it.

I can't help but think - considering who posted the link to the article that this is another jab at Plushenko "Look how much of a fake coach he is, he can't even get a proper dress for his skaters."

Guess Brian Orser can't either because of the Orange Coloured Sky dress.

Eteri of course always picks perfectly.

Are you denying Edwin hates Plushenko more than I hate Tatiana Tarasova? It's off topic, but they've accused him of everything from bribing officials to being a member of the Mafia.

This is Sasha's fanfest, why bring up how "apparently" incompetent her dress designer is if not to stir up dislike of her coaching team? None of us are going to blame Sasha for this are we? So clearly it's Plushenko's fault, or perhaps Sasha's parents - Edwin hates them too.

Scanning some Russian press and forums I discovered some very interesting think. Many haters just point out to Sasha's dress [sort of] issues.
Certain are even asking what is a problem with her legs? Why she has to cover her legs with those stockings? Etc.

I see it as a kind of progress good for Sasha. Haters have less topics for noise and switched to some indirect issues.

Is that a hater comment though?
This is exactly what that designer said, which I felt like was inappropriate. She said that Sasha wanted shorter skirt so that it won't affect her jumps, but then people around her insisted to keep a longer skirt to "cover up" her legs, which were apparently "too muscular" in their opinion.
Hence, I would say those people rightfully pointed out that there's nothing wrong with Sasha's legs, she has the legs that all athletes and figure skaters have, and imo those comments made in press out of all places, shouldn't have been made.
