I think Sasha looked very confident this year. which is a good sign.

She did make mistakes but she held it together. She fell on the 3A yesterday but it didn't effect her today. I truly wish she's on the olympic team. She might not win the gold but I think she deserves her place.
The Olympic team? Sasha has 5 quads for the free skate and a 3A for the SP. Anna who is the world champion and 3 time defending Russian national champion has no ultra jumps since last December. To me that means Sashas chances of making the Olympic are sky rocketing. I mean there is no way Russia will keep a skater who can score 250 points off the Olympic or worlds team this season.

It's going to be Sasha and KV and then the 3rd slot will be interesting. I give Aliona with her 3A back a slight edge over Anna and Liza at this point with Maia coming on strong. Of course if Anna gets her quad's back then she moves into being the favorite for the 3rd spot. But we know the top 2 are at this point.

Unfortunately, not so fast.
It pretty much depends on what they (the RusFed persons) want to accomplish?
To send the best or to have a dogfight under the rug?
Right now Sasha seems like the N1 and the primary choice.
Soon we may watch her in the US. Good performance will strengthen her position. Not so good will just send her back to the "among others".

Let just hope for the best.

My main thoughts yesterday were that I find it really encouraging that they gave her good - the best? - programs, and I find it really encouraging that they allowed her to go for 5 quads at test skates as well! I imagine she must have been really pleased with that. And... it does make me wonder about the content of their conversations when she was negotiating her return to Sambo. :coffee2:

With the fact that they'd signed her up to go out again so fast after test skates, onto an international stage... I think her team must be feeling really confident in her ability to deliver right now. But I also think they wanted to put her under pressure, to see how she does. A kind of trial by fire. I hope the pressure doesn't get to her, now or later in the season.

Anyway, I'd bet money that the plan is to go for 5 quads at the US Classic as well. And I cannot wait!

What they want to accomplish? Gold silver and bronze for the ladies at the Olympics and worlds. I would bet every penny you have that Sasha will be one of the three. :)

Yes she still has to do it in competition but if Sasha lands three out of the five quads she's going to score big and win in Boston.

We do have to wish Sasha and all the girls good luck and good health because last year Sasha got injured around the time of the Moscow GP and that was a setback.

She seems more solid as a skater this year with the spectacular elements still there.

I hope Sasha can handle all the fame because she is the people's champ in Russia. She got mobbed like a rockstar yesterday after the test skates.

I'm afraid that acclimatization and fatigue from flying will be against Sasha. Looked, there are no direct flights to Boston. Probably the path will be through New York.

Interesting jumping cuts and music.

To accomplish what? Again it mostly depends on the agenda.
Sometimes it looks profitable to deny someone "not from us" entry just to keep "ours" in better position.
Returning from AP to Chrystal Dome gave some points here, but certain persons may not like it.

I remember last season Danill mentioned (right after Sasha left the group) that they prepared a 5-quad program for Sasha for the upcoming Worlds. We even saw a clip of it. I guess they are re-starting the 5-quad plan now.
Sasha had a super start. I hope she won't burn out before the important days. Maybe she should consider doing just 3 or 4 quds in some smaller competitions? I am sure the team will have better ideas.

We probably witnessed the highest scoring free skate of all time had it been scored. And it can probably go higher since it wasn‘t flawles

Highest all time is Nathan's 224, don't think she'd get that even with mens factor, there is no 3a as well.

But def highest all time among women !

So, what you just did was issue a challenge for her to learn a 3A. Haha

The olympic team will be decided after the nationals. I don’t want to predict because things could get worse or better For each skater and there’s always injuries to get in a way.

I'm cross-posting from another thread, but I am too thrilled with Sasha's performance on Sunday not to share it with more of her fans:

Sasha's Cruella was awesome! Because she's portraying the character, I think it may help keep the nerves at bay. It takes that much more concentration, and she perhaps can allow her body to do the jumps the way we've seen for years that she trains them. That's my take anyway. She's doing it perfectly. And that, combined with her Frida SP, shows the depth she's gained performance-wise. Brilliant work from Danny G!

I'm a fan of skaters doing the kind of content and programs that they like. I've always gotten a Nathan-vibe from Sasha, because she just loves to do as many quads as she thinks possible. The complaints about such programs being empty are, to me, themselves empty. I'm not going to complain about what the program doesn't have time to include because of the 5 quads.

A program is a communication between a skater and the audience. All the technique, including jumps, edging, transitions, and so forth, is there to serve the expression of emotion, story, theme, or some combination thereof. Because Sasha expressed the essence and story of Cruella, and did it with brilliant skating, she earned points in my book for performance, artistry. Everything that is elusive and not always able to be measured.

Beautifully done!
