The "Ice melts" rubric (Match TV)

They already have shown 4 Yagudin's interviews with athletes. Now he doesn't talk so much about himself (though of course, we don't know what will happen, when he will be talking to a skater again). Maybe they wanted him to speak like an athlete, to be not only an ordinary host - but nobody knew how should it look like.
It seems now he sleeps more than 3 hours before doing an interview.
He says, that his rubric has got a name at last, now it is called "Ice melts".

All well and good but absolutely useless if I learn about the show 2 hours after its end :sad46: Are they joking? I'm not sure whether I'd have gone even if I'd known about it earlier but still... It was some competition in reciting of Puskin's poems, the winners should go to St Petersburg and at the end there was Averbukh's show. According to the photos it might have been that story of making a film.

Seeing these photos, I'd say, that it might have been an event with many speeches - and with a bit of skating. It seems we are lucky, that you didn't know about it and didn't worry. Though of course, I hope they will come again with a normal show, if you'd like to see them again.

After Europe 2002 Joubert spent two weeks in Calgary preparing to the Olympics with Tatiana Tarasova. He was impressed, that Yagudin was giving advices on some elements to him.
Even though Joubert executed a few jumps one by one, when he was practicing, he noticed, how hard Yagudin worked: 3 or 4 quads one by one, 12 triples "in one breath". (maybe these are Joubert's words, maybe just the translator's words)
"Now I understand, HOW my practice might become more intensive." - Joubert thought.
Yagudin had to withdraw from Skate America 2002, and Joubert became the winner. Tarasova said it to Joubert, when she was passing by him. Joubert says he was smiling, when he saw the results, but he didn't want to jump for joy, because he was worried about Yagudin.

Yagudin became Joubert's consultant.
Brian liked, that Yagudin didn't try to pose as his coach. Yagudin wasn't blindly obedient to Depouilly, but didn't try to play the leading part. If Yagudin's ideas didn't work, they asked somebody else to help them. The working climate was very nice.
Even though often Joubert didn't understand Yagudin without a translator.

When Yagudin says, that Tarasova is a great coach, he notes the same thing: he was very impressed, that Tarasova was ready to bring him to another coach, if she couldn't solve a problem. She is great, she knows everything, but she is ready to ask for advice.

Tarasova pinched Yagudin or thrust him with a pin. Lyosha said he didn't need it and tried not to turn his back on Tarasova.
In the "Ice Age" shows Alexei skated with girls. He tells one girl skated better, if he pinched her, - another one didn't need it.

In 2006 Yagudin wasn't at Olympics with Joubert - but Alexei phoned him on that day, when Brian was going to skate, and advised to spare no effort, but to remember, that the Olympic title is not the most important thing in his life. "No matter what will happen, we will continue working together. And a few years later we will meet on a barbecue together with our families and our kids, and the Olympics will be the last thing, which we would like to talk about."

And... two really good movies. Maybe such movies are not easy to watch with subtitles, maybe translation can't be perfect, but I think these movies are realistic: war is not a beautiful game.

The first one is called "Only old men go to battle". When I was a kid, I thought, that it was a boring story about old men indeed. Yet it shows young guys: today they are new pilots, tomorrow they are "old" enough to participate in the war. The commander is Ukrainian, the others... are from different parts of the Soviet Union. They fight above Ukraine.

Maybe Yagudin thought, that Joubert wasn't a real rival for him. The text also says, that at Skate America Joubert's scores for the SP were almost as high as Yagudin's, Joubert wasn't surprised, that the relations with Yagudin became not as warm as before.
