Alina Zagitova

Another high-quality fancam of the new exquisite and elegant program by Alina. The music and backstory were taken from an immensely popular in ex-USSR romantic film A Hunting Accident (1978).

Right after the program Alina took the microphone and very touchingly dedicated her performance to her grandmother who had been dreaming that Alina would perform that role on ice for a long-long time. Alina said that nana had stayed with her through thick and thin and deserved all the credit in the world, and her love and dedication were unconditional. For context, Alina moved to Moscow with nana at the age of 12 or 13. Nana stayed with her in their rental studio for at least 2-3 years and obviously helped Alina lots and lots. You can see her in this Japanese documentary about Alina shot right after Pyeongchang Olympics.

Funny how Alina was just a little sassy with nana in that segment, acting out like most teenagers do. :) But Alina always, always thanked her grandmother in kiss-and-cry. Very touching indeed.

Alina met with her official fan group TeamZagitova, as is the annual tradition.

Alina says "My birthday already passed but I am still getting presents, thank you". :love2:

As I mentioned above, Alina actually achieved an unheard-of feat - she will soon graduate from an accredited university, a rarity for such a famous sportswoman in Russia. The vast majority of her peers get a diploma from the special ed. sporting university, where such famous students do not even have to show up until the very end. Alina's success attracted a lot of attention (and jealousy ). So much that the Dean of her department gave a long interview about Alina's time at her university.

The bullet-point translation follows. 1) Alina did not have an easy life at the University because she spent most of her childhood training for the Olympics and did not get a great education in high school. 2) However, Alina was very motivated to do well, did not ask for special treatment and worked well with her profs. 3) Alina's thesis was on "Promotion of sports and journalism" and she was able to incorporate her actual experience with covering recent figure skating competitions on Russian TV. 4) Alina is considering going for a master's degree but that is still not decided. :)

Alina has started her summer tour with her tried and true role of Ludmila, this time with Alexander Enbert as her partner.

This is a limited run as Alina is also working on her own show that should premier end of August. Here is a little vid from the first rehearsal of her own show. :cheer:

Alina gave a longish interview describing her plans and current projects, along with showing the contents of her bag. :)

Interesting to see how Alina changed from a similar "what's in my bag" video from about two years ago. Still as charming and bashful.

Alina's show premiered today in Kazan. The full stream is available online at the Channel One site, hopefully it will also appear on youtube soon. I am yet to watch it but here are the first impressions. :love2:

Awesome legacy to have such an influence on younger skaters.

Yeah, it came out as a supercute tribute, but to be fair I'm pretty sure other little skaters in that short vid are also cosplaying other famous skaters. It is just that Alina's dresses are instantly recognizable and iconic. :giggle:

I've seen a number of photos and vids of young skaters, synchronized skaters, roller skaters and even gymnasts performing in more or less copies of Alina's dresses, not only in Russia but also in Germany, Poland, Spain, China, Korea, including at JGP if memory serves me right. There have been quite a lot of material and discussions about that in Russian fan groups but unfortunately nobody systematized all the photos and videos. A real pity b/c that would've been a great tribute to Alina's legacy in itself. Here is a young Polish skater(?) from three years ago(?), as one example. 🤩

I confirm that, through the last 5 years I saw many references to not only Alina's dresses and programs, but also other of her team mates

I think the Russian fan groups are still very much alive and kicking including Alina's. These days I am a bit too busy to spend much time on Russian forums, and there is sometimes a little bit too much toxicity there. I still love to watch figure skating thanks to Alina, and I'm checking in on Alina's progress once in a while thanks to Team Zagitova. Gonna have to post something here soon, new and exciting things are always happening with Alina :). Thanks for reviving Alina's thread.

Anyway, I just had to look up the name of that lovely Polish skater in the picture above. It was Natalia Podsiadly from UKLF Salchow Lublin (?), performing in March 2021. https://www.instagram.com/p/CL7qUlfJm8k/

I also noticed that Alina's Carmen dress had apparently established a whole trend in Poland. 🤩 I noticed two more skaters wearing a version of that dress.

Aleksandra KOPYCIOK, OOM Cieszyn, June 2020.

Gabriela Hatłas, Zawody Otwarcia Sezonu - Puchar Burmistrza Nowego Targu, September 2024

While Carmen is a timeless classic and Alina's Olympic red ballerina outfit is obviously iconic, personally I love her Black Swan dress the most. Here is Tatiana Navka's youngest daughter competing and wearing a very similar dress at the age of seven or so. :) https://youtu.be/xEHEd0yNcKM?t=37

You're welcome. I was a big fan of Alina since the very beginning, she was basically a reason why I started to look for skating forums about seven years ago already

I am pretty sure I saw at least some of these, probably at JGP.

Black Swan dress was one of the most original, considering also the change of color. I also remember there was a TV series produced by Netflix I believe, about skating, I saw just some trailers (it was probably a crap), but the dress of the main protagonist was obviously designed after Alina's dress (just cheaper version  ).

I am gladly reviving Alina's fan thread, I also would like to do it in Anna's thread (always my two most favorite skaters).

Alina's master class on open ice in Luzhnini today (picture is just a thumbnail):

Plus her gala program to the song "Snow":
