Alina Zagitova

I've just read Yuzuru's comment about ice rink, apparently it wasn't compatible with edge jumps: " I almost never failed to land my 4Lo prior to arriving here, but I was a little in shock about the ice in this rink and couldn't make adjustments properly"
That explains Alina's mistakes on Loop jump as well.

That explains Alina's mistakes on Loop jump as well.

Loop jumpers were all having trouble, check Junhwan's protocols for the SP (he got dinged for his 3Lz+3Lo big time too, in the FS he fared better).

Yuzuru is an ice specialist, with his talent and amount of years as a top skater, he was pointing out huge pot holes for rink workers to fill.

I'm glad Alina ended up OK and it is now onto the next one with a victory under her belt.

Speaking of adjustments.

Alina is such a fast, and perceptive learner, I'm always amazed by her.

In this fancam video (link at the bottom) showing the end of the gala, her combo jump and picture taking with Yuzuru from the back you can see how she started to place her arm around him like she naturally would in a picture and, in a split second, removed her hand from his back mimicking his gesture on her back.

The French fans narrating the picture were having a fun go at his "hoverhand". Truth is, in Japan, people just don't casually touch each other like we do in western cultures, for a men it is not polite to touch a woman even in such a casual way. Yuzuru has been living abroad and skating with a bunch of people for long enough that he never minds anything I'm sure, but he hasn't changed his very Japanese ways no matter what.

It's a cute bit to see that Alina, who loves Japan so much, picked up on that and is adjusting her habits accordingly when she is dealing with a Japanese men.

Also, 1st Russia, published a piece on Alina (there is also video of the news) with a quote about her from Yuzuru, seems like he watched her FS live: "She is no longer a child, becomes an adult, and, perhaps, has not got used to it yet. I understand her very well and wish her good luck". Link to this news in original, in Russian, also below so our native speakers can check Google Translate's accuracy (and check the video too as it has longer its on Alina).

Two amazing champions [emoji7][emoji7] It's such a privilege and honour to see our both Olympic Champions in top shape this post-Olympic season, so motivated and trying to improve even more.

I hope we'll see again a new photo like this, with them as the 2 olympic champions from 2022 [emoji7]

Okay, so i’m the one who threw the owl to her, and when I say it was the cutest thing ever I mean it. She gasped loud enough to hear it over Yuna’s music from way up there. The look in her eyes was absolutely precious. I need to find some more giant stuffies to throw 🤣🤣
