Alina Zagitova

Pretty sure since Alina got first pick she likely chose NHK, followed by IdF because of the dates.

Most skaters won't do back to back events and that pretty much ruled out Rostelecom with NHK. And when it comes down to it I think she'd pick NHK over Rostelecom; she's better adjusted when competing in Japan, looking at all the events that she's done there. And she hasn't really had as great luck in Russia – Russian championships last year, and also recalling the Russian test skates last season. Also to note, the Russian audience seem to really enjoy clapping while skaters skate, something Alina herself really finds it difficult (she spoke about this before). For her at least, I think NHK was chosen with these factors in mind.

In any case its not only the skater who wants to pick, the individual competitions must also want them there to send them an invitation I believe. NHK is more than happy to have her there – she (and Yuzuru) arguably make up their strongest marketing draw they could possibly have. They're both headliners for the event arguably, and both will sell tickets, and Rika is great but she really only started building her popularity pretty recently and is not as big of a ticket seller as Alina.

Idf is a great pick, not just because of the (perceivably less) competition, but more so for the location. It's not as far as say, Canada and America, and less of a time difference. She's not been to America, but Canada she was there for GPF last year and jet lag was a huge issue – I remember her showing up to SP and then in the interview later she said she almost missed the competition altogether from oversleeping. CoC would also have been great and probably would have been her alternative choice, I would think. Also, GPF is going to be in Turin (Italy) this year which lies in the same time zone as grenoble (itself isn't a huge distance away I believe) and would be a good chance to acclimatise and see what works better for her body ahead of time.

A lot of it didn’t make any sense. No one was talking nhk and rus, i knew they were gonna pick france/china for Alina. She won Europeans and rusnuts and plenty of things in russia and people were always LOUD and said she enjoyed seeing herself on posters etc having great support, but last season she was struggling physically and mentally a lot so ofc she didn’t have best skates, but it has nothing to do with Russia, look at her other events - Helsinki? France and Italy being in the same time zone has also nothing to do with Alina since she is gonna be flying from Msk and Alina already has been to both france and Italy so no new info here. And you are saying Japan is happy to see her but Russia isnt? They need to sell tickets, Alina is so popular, they write tons of articles about anything she does, even deleting instagram posts... and no, she doesn’t need any invitation to participate.
You can also think about why Elizabeth “picked” to fly 9+ and 13+ hrs (plus another flight) to events with foreign judges instead of staying in Msk for event with 2 “nice” judges Kazach and Rus...and she was participating in ruscup for the last 3 years....

What are you trying to say? That Alina was forced into NHK? That's rubbish. Last year before the GP season she said that she wanted to go to NHK. The chips didn't fall her way last season but this season she got the first pick and NHK she's chosen. Why do you find it so hard to believe that she actually wanted to go there? Coupled with the fact that Shiseido I'm sure are thrilled about that too. And France seems like the most logical choice time/location wise. And yes, she has sentiments re France GP, it's clear as day.

Did you know? Some fans conspired through the social network VK to sent the same question (request) to the recent direct line with president Putin - "please ask Alina Zagitova, she is now in the TV Studio, what programs she chose for the new season?"

Oh, that would have been brilliant! :-) Seems like we need Putin to ask her to finally end the mistery.

Regarding GP, due to location/time, I was also wondering between Grenoble and Torino, so count me in for a fan meeting!

It was a joke, actually started as a mean one since it was discussed in a chat that always disses Alina and makes fun of her, her nationality etc. its a chat of vk group, that is actually sometimes funny and makes not offensive mems about figure skating

Wow! Full Bad Guy version, thank you so much, we waited for this for so long to happen! :yahoo:

I gotta confess I love this playful, cheeky side of Alina, the entire performance is really entertaining and the audience clapped the entire program, they loved it!

I like a lot Alina's first spin, I hope we'll see it more often, the cantilever, the spiral, all looking great! Also is clear that she really enjoys herself, and this is all I want from her performances :luv17:

Bravo Daniil and Alina

I find it kind of critical though to give such a spin position to someone with knee problems. I hope it didn't bother her. :sad21:

I don't think her team would risk Alina's well-being for a spin, in an EX, and she did not seem bothered. Also the fact that she stopped to wear those tapes at Worlds gives me confidence that her condition got better.

It still feels kinda 'raw', needs final touches, from Eteri maybe :)

They would've clapped even if Alina just sat on the ice and made silly faces the whole time :)

Oh yes, I totally agree with you, the program is raw as these were the first performances of it, after so little time of preparation. For me it still makes for an extremely entartaining watching, especially because I waited for so long for a new performance, of a new program from Alina. I am like that audience, that would have clapped even if Alina just made silly faces, every performance of hers (especially when it's new) is like Christmas time for me, and ofc I am sure it is the same for all the people in this fanfest! :luv17:

Actually what Alina has is Osgood Schlatter Disease. I come from a medical background so I know some about it, but its not serious in any way. Yes it will hurt when it flares and can be managed easily with painkillers but for the most part the knee is fine at all other times. Also because it occurs from the growth plate, once the growth plate closes it no longer is an issue and even though the bony bump remains it will no longer bother her. Even if she is still growing, her growth plates in her knees may have closed. In most cases by the time a boy or girl hits 16 years of age, it will no longer be an issue for them.

The condition isn’t chronic or degenerative in any way, merely exacerbated by physical activity and will likely not give her any problems in the long run. I don’t think that spin position is giving her any problems at this point in any case, and not at this point in time.
