Alina Zagitova

Alina, an interview about the path towards Beijing 2022 (yes, please, I love to read this!) and other thoughts regarding next season:

One of the main reasons for the new success of Zagitova (from Worlds), was a special attention to the artistic side of skating. The expressiveness of the performance allowed the figure skater to get a high second mark:

Next season, Zagitova does not plan to change priorities. As for the jumps of the highest category of complexity, such as triple axel and quad, Zagitova said about them: “Of course, such elements are important, but in the new version of the rules [introduced last season] any errors were severely punished. Therefore, it is very important for me to skate without errors. Innovations force me to pay even more attention to expressiveness than ever before. ”In other words, increasing the overall quality of performance is becoming increasingly important for Zagitova.

Bad Guy!!!

I really like it. I think the costume/choreo goes well with the vibe of the music video and how Billie Eilish herself performs in it.

Alina once again proves she's the spin queen
Most importantly, she seems to have so much fun with this EX and she was really feeling the music.

It feels so good to see Alina performing brand new stuff
Hopefully the program announcements will come soon :)

Watching the full broadcast of Fantasy on Ice - Kobe last night (my night, Japan's afternoon) solved the mystery music.

It's C2C's "Down the Road" and it was Stephane Lambiel's EX second EX skate for the night.

Couldn't find uploads of his program but below you'll find the original release of the song:

Watched the whole broadcast live and it was super cool to see Alina in the context of the whole show.

She really is beaming and super happy, you can tell that she enjoyed this experience to the max, she looked stunning in all her numbers (and for the group ones FaOI is famous for its, hum, unusual fashion choices, but our girl comes out on top no matter what).

Bad Guy was the big reveal for me (though they showed Kobe's 1st day Carmen using a few different camera angles that made it extra great), and what a reveal, Alina takes this song and runs with it, having so much fun and doing such cool moves. It was her first time performing this, and from freshly acquired choreo, but she already showed how great this program will get to be once she skates it more.

Her moves are sharp, always on the music, amazing spins and spirals, her cantilever has gotten so great (and this past season was her first time performing with this move), her 3F was amazing as always and she got great height on the 3Lz that gave her a bit of trouble that day.

An amazing experience to watch this and I want to watch more of it!!!! I need to see this program again, like, now. Thank god for "Dreams on Ice" I hope she performs it here too.

Super Alina Zagitova (how the Carnival on Ice 2018 announcer introduced her) indeed.

to me her bad landings at jumps ruined the impression

To me they really didn't, though I can totally see the validity of your point and how it may be an issue for many people.

I really like Figure Skating shows, not every one does, and I watch as many as I can. I really like EX's too.

Usually I'm lucky to get the extra incentive to watch because someone I love is skating there, as was the case with Alina here. So I'm pretty much used to seeing jumps go to hell so to speak.

Most shows are in the off season, after vacations for many of the competitive skaters, are, bunch of times, performed in rinks that were build to order right before the first show (so ice quality is very seldom ideal) and to top it all rink sizes vary a lot between stops of the same show. It's a struggle for all and across many performances several people alternate between being "the wonky jumpers of the day", when we see stuff on TV they use footage from one day and in Japan they don't really care to look for "clean performances" (for the most part).

All this to say that, as show lover, I'm used to it and used to it to the point where it doesn't detract from my enjoyment and for the things I usually look forward in a show. With Alina I really wanted to see her skate to live music, a completely new experience for her, and I really wanted to see "Bad Guy", getting to see this was super fun for me. Carmen changed from her 1st performance to her last ones, it got sharper as she grew more confident, I imagine "Bad Guy" will go the same way.

It means that you would like this very much too.
Enjoy!

I see what you're trying to do ;)

I watched the beginning of the video but wasn't interested enough to watch till the end... I'm not really a Billie Eilish fan and Alina is the only reason I watched her Bad Guy music video in the first place.

Jojo's video doesn't take away my enjoyment or appreciation for Alina's performance to Bad Guy but nice try

It’s a show, you don't have to top all the jumps, plus giving multiple exhibitions in a raw is exhausting for the skaters. It’s a good practice and shows us they are humans and made mistakes.

I want so badly to know her new SP and Free programs.
Idk if they” announce “them at all, Alina gets a lot of hate for everything she does or posts now coz she is too popular, people are always complaining and arguing her abilities, Daniil will get ton of complaining and people hating his music/image choices for Alina, based on her age, personality etc
Plus i think it adds pressure on her before open skates, because people always make stuff up in their head and get “disappointed”and write all that to her 🙄 ideg why she has to do it, i think she will perform her sp on the Japanese show as usual to test waters and get experience. I also think they have a few options for FP and still trying to see which one is better match for her. Remember how Tutberidze said she gave Alina and Daniil two weeks to prove to her Alina can be Carmen or she would not let Alina skate that FP? Lbr Alina didn’t have time to try anything yet

It's always a challenge to land jumps in the lighting used in shows. Also with a new routine, with unfamiliar choreography that she is still getting used to, I give her a pass. I think she will make this routine her own as she has more time to get comfortable with it.

To me the bad landings kind of worked in that they fit with the quirky comedy aspect of the routine.

Why make excuses for Alina, she really doesn’t need it. Good jumps>>>>>Bad landings duh, poster above stated the obvious and it’s their loss they couldn’t enjoy program we’ve all been waiting for. I for example thought camera angles weren’t good enough to catch everything Alina did there, but I forgive them coz they zoomed in on that awesome spin.

*Speaking of serious real excuses, in interview posted above Alina also spoke about her 5th place at nationals :“I wasn’t able to train in a full force coz of burn [right ankle]” and she said that unwavering support from coaches and family helped her to overcome all that.
