Alina Zagitova

Well, she's still young and as I understood she has to pass an important exam at school soon. Maybe she'll focus first on that (despite on training  ) and later will take up a foreign language. It's up to her, it depends on her willingness to invest some energy on another extra thing, which in her situation is not an easy task to do. But still, remember her hugging Tessa Virtue at the Olympics? For happiness there's an universal language that we all understand :luv17:

Couldn't agree more with your comment about the universal language of happiness. And Alina is always interacting with her peers, willing to have a great time with them and take part in any fun that comes up. She is open and doesn't shy away from anything, even dealing with any language barriers, she shows her appreciation and enjoys being a part of the group. With all that on her side I'm sure she'll broaden her language repertoire in a natural way (even more so if she takes up actual classes), and others will always enjoy having her around.

She actually said this ( with google translate):
The Olympic Games are a huge stress, even if you win Olympic medals. I saw Alina (Zagitova - note) and Zhenya (Medvedev - note) after their return. They were squeezed out, devastated. Zhenya, who is always cheerful, sociable, is always ready to listen with enthusiasm, give advice - was completely different. And only a month later, Zhenya became the same.

It was hard for Aline. I saw how she prepared for the World Cup. Day after day in training, fight with yourself. The Olympics is, of course, a holiday. But for an athlete - this is a difficult test.

Interesting comments from Polina. Im sad that Alinka was so worn out for worlds. And that Zhenya was not herself for 1 month after the olympics. The toll was great on both and I hope they get alot of rest this offseson. Alina is growing alot now but I hope not too much to negatively affect her skating.

De gustibus non disputandum est.

What did you say?

I hope Alina does not hear the soccer players comment about her being the most beautiful girl in the world. I hope Alina stays the same person now that she is being smothered by fame and compliments.

There is an interview with Polina Tsurskaya, she said after Olympics both Zhenya and Alina were emotionally devastated and it took about a month to come back to their usual selves.
And despite all that, despite immense pressure, busy schedule, flu, Alina continued to fight, to train, and she managed to keep 3 spots for Russia despite a bad performance.

I wonder what it means by "devastated" (I have seen this in several translated interviews) cos I associate that more with being upset, crushed by trauma/grief/sadness. I thought to win at Olympics would be great excitement, joy and a sense of achievement, but maybe a sense of emptiness after achieving the goal you have worked towards for so long. Is it perhaps a word in Russian that does not have an good equivalent in English?

Does she speak any English now? She was exposed to English during competitions and press conferences...

In the periscope video where she was unwrapping gifts in Japan, she said "Thank you very much" (sweetly and perfectly, I must say) after reading a comment off the screen (and I assume it is an English comment which made her respond in the same language). So I'm thinking maybe she can read some English, and speak simple phrases?

I don’t think this is going to go to her head, she seems pretty leveled for a 15/16 year old already.

I hope all praise serves as a motivating factor for her. Figure Skating is a very demanding sport that requires discipline and sacrifices, maybe all these compliments will serve as incentives to achieve even more.

I’m curious about what she’ll do next in her programs.

And here's some video from the LG Ice Fantasia rehearsal https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nc_pmeoYuNU - man, the insane shuttering of the cameras, talk about press coverage.

Also, on related news, Misha Ge posted a partial picture of the call sheet of the event on his instagram stories and I could see that Alina has two solo moments at the show (one second to last on the first act and the other one on forth to last place during the second act), lots of other skaters have two solo moments (Zhenya, Gaby, Vincent, Plushenko, Boyang to name a few), I'm excited to see what her other number will be about. Looks like they have 3 or 4 group numbers (opening, second act opening, finale and closing).

Thanks for the link to the video - they look like they are having fun! The skaters only have 2 days to learn the routines and rehearse - wow! To those who skate - are these routines considered "very easy" compared to the competitions? Ice skating is not big where I am from so everything looks difficult, and I can't imagine learning and remembering all the steps in just 2 days!

Speaking about devastation,
Roger Federer: "You can't win them all, but at the same time, you can give all you have"

I could listen to Federer all day long

Same here!!! Saw him play live 7 times and it never gets old. Saw him loose a match and then rally and win the next tournament. It’s so inspiring to see him play.

Alina is a joy to watch and she really is committed to giving her all. I remember at the Russian post-Olympic Ice Shoe she fell on one of the jumps then before they started the interview portion she asked to go out and do it again as a stand alone. And she nailed it. True champ!

You're so lucky.....I find Federer an inspiration, not only as an athlete, but also as a person... he's always so classy and wise.

And he is super nice to fans, very attentive and kind. Can’t recommend enough watching him live if he ever crosses your path. Totally worth it.

I have seen so many Tennis Tournaments live, pretty much seen every idol I had since the late 70s. Now I need to get a few Figure Skating championships under my belt, Alina inspired me to want to watch them live too.

Alina is like in S.Coppola's "Lost in translation" movie with all this shows in Japan and S.Korea.

Interesting take on your part about how all the compliments to Alina Zagitova will give her incentive ticket continue on and do great things. I hope thats the case. She is so mature for 15.

I think we're all interested and curious about what Alin'as programs are going to be like next season.
