Alina Zagitova

To the discussion tht Fluture and TheBallerina were having a couple of pages back about Alina's EX program for this next season:

I actually like her current one quite a lot (I know I'm the minority on this), it is an unusual piece of music and she really grew to own it this past season. She is performing it better and better. If they are going to let it go I can see them using Black Swan as an EX for her, that costume alone is heaven. On the minus side to this strategy, she already used it some, as a second EX on the LG Ice Show this year and on Carnival on Ice in 2017.

Eteri and Daniil like to play with EX pieces and Eteri mentioned that she likes to use that opportunity as a place for the skater to experiment (with music they like, say) and be more free. Now that Alina has all this positive energy from a great senior season and an Olympic Gold Medal maybe she will want to use that as a chance to showcase her tastes.

She is getting a lot of mileage on these Ice Shows and has been in high demand this year (getting top billing and all that), she might use a new EX piece after all, depending on how things evolve with her new programs for the season of course.

Here is Black Swan from Carnival on Ice 2017 in case anyone missed it when it was broadcast https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWWkydh034o

I am part of that minorty too.

And I think a good part of Japan also

:hb: :cheer: :hap93: :dance2:

just as a trivia note....

Bobby Carpenter who played for the Washington Capitals in the 1980's grew up just a few miles away from me.
He was drafted right out of high school and it was a really big deal in the local newspapers at the time.

I remember Bobby Carpenter he was really good player. Then he played for the Devils too I think. Vegas had the best expansion team ever in sports but I'm very happy for the Washington Capitals and the much beleaguered all-time great Alexander Ovechkin. Somewhere EdRoz is smiling :)

I am very happy for Alexander and whole team !!! Well deserved!!!:clapper:

Big spender was Trusova's SP this past season...Eteri always putting the fun back in dysfunctional... (no idea about Candyman tho)

I actually liked Trusova's "Big Spender" SP a lot - but would have preferred no lyrics (in this regard I'm a snooty "purist" :drama:)

Even though the LP had the quads and got all the "buzz" - I thought the SP was the gem - as the jumps really went with the music.

Male voice in this video, is it Kurt Browning?

Woops, my mystake, I mixed it up with the FP of Tarasova/Morozov which I found equally ... well, strange is a hard word, let‘s say unusual.

Aww I feel bad 😔
As the OP for the Russian ladies’ thread I’m sad at how it’s divided us so much when we need to stick together to protect ourselves from everyone else anyway

And later on when all the tension about Zhenya is hopefully over, I’d invite you all to try it again. Normally, it’s a very nice place

But perhaps the fanfests are more guaranteed nice. Which I definitely appreciate 🤗

Don't feel bad at all and thank you for starting that thread, such a great place to get information on the Russian Ladies figure skating scene. Not such a great place for Alina fans to be out and proud but, oh well, you can't have everything.

Still is the lurking place I'm most committed with at the Edge.

I really like Sweet Charity (saw the play a bunch of times), plenty of great songs.

I feel you about lyrics in Figure Skating performances, a lot of times they don't bother me but for something like a Tango I prefer just the music (I don't like tango's with their lyrics in general, just Gotham Project's more modern ones). Not having lyrics frees you from concentrating on the meaning of every word and allows you to simply enjoy a well timed performance in sync with a cool tune.

Congrats on the win EdRoz!!! And other hockey lovers that are in this fanfest.

I went to a huge viewing party at Bryant Park in 2014 when the Rangers were in the playoffs. They had another viewing party in 2015 that I also attended. Ranger's fans can now blame me for the team's bad luck.

Edited to add: Hockey is only a little bit off topic since Alina loves it so much, her Dad really made a fan out of her that's for sure.

Alina having some green screen fun with "Sunshine"

She really had a blast at that Japanese Game show, and we did too. I hope she gets invited to lots and lots of TV shows when she is there in late July/early August. And please, please, please, another game show....

It looks like Javier Fernandez is doing neck bridges - nobody can call him a "pencil-neck geek" :cool14:

Yes - more game shows for Alina - she'll be fine now that she knows the rules for curling!

Yup that is Kurt. Always had some really great comments for Alina too. He doens't like tanos and rippons so much but when Alina did them he mentioned he liked seeing them done by her.

I think Kurt really appreciates pushing the boundaries.

I believe he was the first to land a quad.

Another reason why COP is better than 6.0 system....
Maybe Kurt would have still had a chance for Gold in 1992 with COP because the 6.0 system "buried" him after his SP.

and at first I was wondering which type of cat we will see this year. But it will be a year of grow and development, so probably her EX program will be different too  Maybe she'll leave the cats-world and try a dog-Akita-Masaru theme program, the japanese people will love it and the worlds are in japan anyway next year  (*joking:biggrin:)

There is still Lion King, or Garfield (and Masaru can guest star as Odie)! 🤣

I usually read it for informative value on other Russian Ladies, and now the rule changes too, I like that they rarely talk about Alina, because when they do....let's just say I don't agree with it at all.

I followed those threads too! Saw some unfair comments about Alina and was kinda upset. Sigh.

I wish you had gone to a viewing party for the NY Giants when they made the Super Bowl. (2008 and 2012?)

Maybe the outcome would have different for the Patriots.

Tom Brady's "Legacy" would have owed you a debt of gratitude.

Hockey and Figure Skating....

Kristi Yamaguchi is married to a former NHL player

Natalia Mishkutenok was married for a while to a hockey player
(She even tried skating pairs with him --- :gaah: he probably would have done better if he had worn his hockey skates)

Sarah Hughes' father played hockey and was team captain at Cornell (same team as Ken Dryden!)
