Alina Zagitova

"Ааа, муравейник нашла. Иди ка отсюдова!" ("Aah, you found an anthill, step away.)
I'm so like this childish/provincial "отсюдова" :) Unfortunately, I don't know how to translate such nuances for not Russian-speaking :) She says it like my old country grandma, but it's very cute. Adorable provincial child :)

I also like this moment, when Alina said: "again, she has found something, oh my God (smile), she is like a little baby!" - so cute :luv17::luv17::luv17:

Such beautiful countryside. Masaru is lucky, and so is Alina!

hanyuufan5, how many languages do you speak?

English fluently, a little bit of Russian (I know the culture much better than the language, my grandparents were Russian), a lot of Japanese (including a lot of figure skating terminology and otaku slang ) but not fluent yet, a tiny bit of French, and an even tinier bit of Spanish. And I know some basic pronunciation and a few random words of a bunch of other Eastern European languages. I really love languages.

A couple of comments...

1. I kind of question her doing a challenger series event this year... I would have only done a Cup of Russia event before the Japan Open. And she's going to be going up against her potential biggest technical challenger this year. She's Olympic champion... if she gets beat she should kind of have a positive attitude about it knowing that can't ever be taken away.
2. I really hope we don't see the boots over the tights anymore. That's fine when you're a scrappy junior or first year in senior but now it's time to clean things up. Medvedeva switched after her first year. If they really want something over the boots then look into stirrups.

I guess they need the feedback from an international judging panel, before going to more important startups. For any adjustments, corrections in the program related to the new rules, GOEs etc. Personaly thought I don't like this mentality, to hide and not compete, even if it's beneficial as you mentioned.

Why not? The challengers are a good opportunity to start getting used to new programs in a competitive setting before the important events. And start letting the judges get used to it as well. Alina seems to be one of the skaters who actually need the time to get into a new program, so this should be good practice. As long as she's in good physical shape, and there was no reason to think otherwise, I don't see any reasons not to.

They'd get some feedback at the Japan Open... and if things went wrong there it's easy to count it up as a fluke. If they thought they could sign up for a challenger series event as a warmup with little competition then they thought wrong. I don't think they should pull out now but if she gets beat I hope they just take it in stride. She's going to get passed up the next few years anyway. Her focus this year should be a world medal but her long term goal should not be to win everything but to be relevant on the grand prix level for as long as possible and as long as she's having fun.

I'll be frank... I get worried about Team Eteri's decision making after her skaters have success. I've been through Yulia's post-Olympic season when she didn't have FS dress ready. Then there was Medvedeva last year with the empty FS with rippon everything.

Choosing some of the first competition in challenger series (Nepela, Lombardia...) is completely normal, e. g. last year at Lombardia there were kostner and Higuchi, from men e. g. Shoma Uno. At U.S. International Figure Skating Classic there were such names as Nathan Chen or Marin Honda. You are making drama from it, completely unnecesary. Yes, her goal is world championship, but for it she, as any other skater, have to get used to progam in competition. Thats why they are doing it. If it makes you feeling well getting worried you are welcome but don't expect sympathy for it.

Doing a Challenger is pretty standard to iron out a competitive program in a relatively low stakes situation but I imagine it's even more important to do a CS event this year with the recent rule changes, Olympic champion or not. And Japan Open isn't really comparable to a CS competition. It's better to get the kinks sorted out of a program and learn how the new rules re: scoring will affect one's technical elements at a Challenger than on the Grand Prix circuit.

I'm 100000% with you on the tights. I'm not a fan of the half-covered boot. Either cover the boot completely or don't cover the boot at all. I find it so distracting from the beauty of her skating and her dresses.

Any idea how tall Alina is now and if her growth will affect her skating this season?

On a side note a couple months ago Alina's thread was under 300 pages behind Medvedevas. Now it's almost five hundred. What happened?

New layout of the forum. Previously there were 15 comments on one page, newly it is omly 10 comments. It't only about forthnight this way. So naturally the gap is also equally changed, 300 old pages is now 450.
