Alina Zagitova

What are you guys think on alina's PCS, for me i think she deserved it,not only that she's the reigning olympic champ but her whole performance is not that bad afterall. I think her reputation as an outstanding skater gives her the leverage just like kostner. Just my opinion

Then someone asked Yuna and Loena what they think their chances of winning are if they skate clean. Yuna's face was like  "Are you aware of the words you're saying?" While Loena said "To win this? I think..." looks at Alina and says a very firm, "No." :laugh2:

That's exactly what I wanted to say...that was a pretty uncomfortable question for both girls, and Loena was so sweet, they way she looked at Alina like " what are you asking me, I have the Olympic Champion beside me and you're asking me this?". She's such a nice person and I'm happy for her performance from today!

According to this alina says she reads everything that's said about her on social media (according to my translator). Baby girl whyyyy? :( people are cruel on the internet and the things i see people writing about her sometimes, just disgust me. I'm on my way to steal her computer and phone... :slink:

I thought I had seen somewhere else she spends little time with social media?

I guess we need one of our Russian speakers to let us know exactly what she said in the interview.
Rather than relying on a google-translated headline, which may just be for "click-bait" purposes.

Anyways - I have always felt it was about 90-95% positivity towards Alina on social media/youtube.
This doesn't count the occasional a "why is PCS so high" which doesn't slam Alina or her programs (ie why is it so much higher than skater x?)

Unfortunately, it is the nasty, vocal few that stand out.

I check twitter by searching "Zagitova" - if a nasty tweet shows up (not very often, but a few here or there after competitions) I squash them like a bug using "Block" and/or "Mute".

Occasionally, if it is a really nasty vile poor excuse for a human being (very infrequent), I will report the tweet to twitter.

I'm watching the post SP interview and it is HILARIOUS. Everyone is trying to ask Alina questions, even the Japanese translator for Yuna.

Omg, hahaha I love Loena. Well, that was an honest reaction. I need to see that. Do you have a video? :laugh2:

I think it is a little shocking also because I don't remember her popping any jumps last year - not even Worlds.

I wonder at some point if they will change 3Lz-3Lo to 3Lz-3T in the SP?

I'm not meaning to hit the panic button, but there is not TOO much difference in the BV versus losing 10-11 points for a "pop" on the loop.
And if IIRC she also popped the 3Lo in the LP at the test skates, but I don't think she has popped on 3Lz-3T.

Still surprised after the 3Lz-3Lo's she did in the 6 minute warmup - specifically the 2nd one.
But - it is a different mindset. If if you miss in practice, no harm done. However - when so much is riding on a split second in time during the SP.... the stakes are so high.

Anyway, I was certainly pleased that she did so well with the rest of the program.

And of all the skaters I saw (Angela Wang + the last group) I think only the 16 year old Japanese skater was clean.

A tough day all around for the skaters in the SP.

I don't think this is the matter of particular jump, as was said here, its probably something like a reflex

Well, we know 3Lz-3T is easier to jump because you can tack on the 3T even if the landing of the 3Lz is iffy. But with the loop, timing has to be absolutely perfect. That’s why it can go wrong sometimes, even if you can do the jump in your sleep like Alina can. Sometimes you just have bad luck. But I also don‘t think they‘ll change the combo. It‘s Alina‘s signature combo and she nails it 99.9999% in practice anyway.

I think it's quite hard ..it's definitelly beter to dont read it..hope she did not read it at least during the competition (like now before FS), that she is in the bubble .. But for example I also love gymnastics. And now it's World Championship ..and you can see that Simone Biles like's tweets about her even during All around finals, between routines. :D Tessa Virtue is much older than Alina or Zhenya and admited that she reads articles too. They are just young girls and live in social media era. They almost have to use social media to interract with fans .. and also they wanna use it like normal teenagers and young peoople generally .. and I think it's hard to not open an article about you ..

.

Not sure where they've taken these words from as they sound contradictory but here's the translation:
I try to stay away from everything. Of course I read all what they write about me, but I try not to be close to it, just read out of curiosity.

Loena's answer was great. Especially when the man who asked the question tried to force her to elaborate :dev2: and she continued to be humble and said her tech just isn't as good as Alina's. Good job Loena!

She had a bit more time than Yuna to process the question. As the Japanese translator was translating you could just see the "Why is this happening to me?" expression forming on Yuna's face. I'm sure both Yuna and Loena would love to win, but when the Olympic Champion who is also leading the SP is sitting right next to you...

Anyhow here's a photo of Alina with her classy new friends: https://www.instagram.com/p/Bpr8GrAn4IP/

I think it is OK. Her PCS today was very similar to what she scored at Nebelhorn. Her mistake on the loop did not distract from the execution of the program.
It wasn't a jarring mistake - simply a pop with a little hinkiness after the landing. If she had made more jarring mistakes on the jumps, it would have been lower.

Overall, I am fine with her PCS. I don't subscribe to "Eteri-Inflation" conspiracy theories. Except, to me it is obvious (at least to me) that the judges favor Eteri-style busy choreography. People may like it, people may not - but that is what it is. Eteri designs her programs to maximize points.

My feelings have always been to see Alina with more flowing choreography because I think it would suit her better.
Be that as it may - I think she does extremely well with the choreography she is given - which is probably why Eteri gives it to her.

And personally, I think she hits (usually) musical accents very nicely, and the "busy" steps match the music also.

BTW - I also did not see much (if any) difference between Alina and the other skaters with the leaning forward issue.
I hate that today I felt it neccessary to lessen my enjoyment of watching skating by scrutinizing this issue.

Well, I didn't have to - but it is an itch I needed to scratch

She knows that even she skates her best the judges will not give her PCS in order to compete with Alina.

Yes, the comments are 90-95% positive towards Alina, they are mainly about "shipping" ;)

No they are not.

Not. Even. Close.

But I guess you can see what comes over my twitter search better than I can.

With your superpowers - can you please tell me what the winning PowerBall numbers will be tommorow night????

I want to be a billionaire!!!!

Practice starting tomorrow already?? Omg. Time flies.

I hope Alina finds time and motivation to learn to speak English one day. I know it‘s hard if you have such a busy schedule as hers but I‘m sure it would be beneficial for her.

Hmm. Why should she? I don't remember if say Gold or Osmond were advised to learn Russian

I always think about that. Not necessarily the skater reading it, but their friends and family members. I mean if I care enough to read sports.ru via Google translate I can only imagine that the people in their lives that love them are doing the same. I wish people would be kinder.

Alina if you are reading this thread just know that the bashers don't matter - the posters here in this thread love you enough for everyone! :ghug: Not Vlad. But no one wants to be like Vlad.

Translation of the press conference

Q: What did you think after missing the loop after your lutz?
Alina: I saw that I have to do the remaining elements cause the jump combination was the first element and their were still other elements left that I had to do.

Q: Last season was very long, with good results... this is already your second competition, how did you prepare? Did you have a vacation or prepared right away?
Alina: I knew this season would be quite tough. It's never easy after the Olympic year, especially emotionally. But I had just, as usual, two weeks of vacation. And after that, the training camp started and the preparation for the season.

Q: In practice you did great jumps, but in competition you didn't do a good jump (in combo), what happened?
Alina: I was just a little tight. There were a lot of stuff on my mind before my performance but I should be able to compensate that and to be (have) more confidence.

Q: You look taller than last season. How many cm did you grow since the Olympics?
Alina: I don't know why everybody is interested in how much I grew. It's just normal. Everybody is growing. I grew 5~6cm but it's fine.

Q: Who chose the piece of music, what is the story (behind the SP)?
Alina: The program was created during the summer. It was done by Daniil and Eteri, and it's the POTO. At first I didn't understand it so much but then my coaches explained it to me. Now I got into that character. Free program is Carmen and was done by the same choreographers. I wanted to skate to Carmen for a long time. My coaches agreed, so that's basically the story of my programs.

This lovely girl on twitter is to thank for the translation :agree:https://twitter.com/quadaxels
