Alina Zagitova

Actually Olympic champions often stop or go pro the season after Olympics. There was talk a little while ago here of how Alina is the only champion in quite a few decades (since Katarina Witt I think?) to do a full season the season after winning! Ofcourse Alina wants to skate longer and she's doing well and will do even better after she's settled into her growth!

I thought Yuna Kim carried on skating a full season after winning the Olympics in 2010, but I've just looked it up and I was wrong, because she only competed at the 2011 Worlds (she missed the whole GP season) and then sat out the entire 2011-2012 season as well, so yeah, it seems Alina is the first OC to do a full season since Katarina Witt. Hats off to our Queen of Ice in every way! :)

Interview with the three top SP skaters, Alina, of course, being one of them, for Golden Skate.

Her parents decided to pull the plug on her online activity (such as it was because she was never an over sharer), maybe they rightfully figured it was stressing her out reading a bunch of stuff and now she is off the grid.

According to this article, apparently cited from Match TV, Zagitova explained she doesn't read social media or follows any online fan activities about herself, she uses her new phone to watch serials while relaxing.

She said the same in the Belarus 5 live interview, but also said she noticed all the Russian flags and Zagitova banners in the audience, and she felt the support.

Kind of shows the enormous pressure she is under, the pressure of expectations mostly. She is human.

Hi, guys! I am having exams and it's pretty stressful here right now but I am trying to keep up with the infos about Alina!

First of all, I am glad she managed to get the first place in the short, I think it shows the program is pretty stable, when watching the whole season till this point.

Then, congrats to teamzagitova for getting their page back - I missed it and all the memories collected there for the past year!

I will try to watch the Europeans when I have more time but I will be thinking of Alina! She can do it!

I like how she always hits her fists on her thighs and butt, as if to call these important muscle groups to attention before centering herself on the ice to acknowledge the judges and audience.

These different small ingrained gestures that every athlete has makes them distinguishable and even more likeable.

I read in another website that skaters often have a small talisman sewn into their costumes.
Any idea what Zagitova's might be, or is it better not to know, not to spook her fortunes and chances?

Alina has always struck me as a level headed person, not easily intimidated or scared, but rather somewhat reserved, not exuberant in her emotions.

I rewatched the Dream program Alina, Evgenia and Kaetlyn skated to last season and I must say Alina really skated amazingly to this program. Soft music like that really suits her. Makes me wish that she will skate to a program like this during the next season. Would make my dream come true haha

Yup many of us shared the same opinion when we saw this program  I personally love it when Alina is skating to lyrical music, she is so elegant and graceful, it suits her very well

Her SP did not reflect it, but in practice you can see they really worked on her jumps!

Show it tomorrow Alina <3

I love the 3F-3Lo combo she‘s casually throwing in in practice. I wish her a great FS tomorrow. The gold is hers to lose and she is leading after the SP despite some minor mistakes. Hopefully this will give her confidence to go out there and skate calmly. I believe she can do it. She‘s a survivor after all. :)

Yes, also the fact that she didn't hesitate into the combination and didn't pop it as well as the fight for the flip, were both signs that she's been training hard in order to get her confidence for the jumps back. From the replay I thought that her Loop was actually borderline rotated and got the impression that her 3F was UR (that's why the shaky landing) but the judges' call was exactly the other way around. Still, I believe that calling her mistake was a good thing because she needs to know what area of her skating needs improvements. They probably still fight with her growth spurt because she seemed kind of taller or maybe it's the effect from the tights.

Fingers crossed for the free skate. She's in a very good position and the main competitor would be her own self.

Weren’t people saying that Alina had a very bad practice today though?

Oh... I don‘t know, I didn‘t watch the whole video, it was about an hour long. I skimmed through it and probably only managed to stop at the good jumps. I saw 3F-3Lo, several 3Lz-3Los. I did see a popped 3Lz and a step out on a 2A, though but that was all. But then again, I didn‘t watch it all.

But there‘s a saying that if the last practice before performance goes badly, the performance will be the exact opposite.

Do you think there was really a sort of drama going on here? Most of the comments suggest there was, but I don't really think so. I think (or I'd like to think) it was just a usual hard practice a la Eteri... . True, she had to hear out Eteri's remarks (which might have not sounded music to her ears) and once, after she'd popped a jump, she seemed to be either in pain or on the verge of crying, but I didn't see anything really worrying in Alina's overall performance.

Oh, I also did not watch the last practice in particular - only half an our of random videos in general :(

Knowing Alina, a 'very bad practice' for her is 'a few mistakes but totally fine' for others.

I watched the full practice video.
it was a good practice. She did a great runthru and just a few mistakes outside of it.
She was a little bit more focused. The full team worked more and harder on her elements. The ladies had only one practice today. When usually everyone has two practice sessions in a day between and before competitions. I don't get why there weren't two practices for the ladies today. Anyway, she made the most of the time she had and her training was a little bit busier than what we saw on the previous videos.
In any case, as she said after SP. She is going to try to be totally focused on herself and her practices and programs. So it's totally what she is doing right now.

she didn't have a perfect practice but i thought it was still good. everything doesn't need to be perfect everytime and eteri was probably just being eteri. i think most people in the comments are just being dramatic if alina didn't like eteri's approach she doesn't seem like the type that would put up with it. i doubt daniil would just be chilling to the side either if their was any drama either since alina is his favourite.
